I watched half of the new season last night
Not one laugh. Abe and JFK are carrying this show so hard that literally all the other characters even the ones from the original main cast arent making this any easier to sit thru

Not surprising. None of the new characters are actually good.
I don't mind them, except for Harriet who's a pointless inclusion with no unique character and a terrible design.
The main issue is that the new cast is so one note.
Like they have no real goals, no backstories, no wants or motives. They're just kinda there.

I mean I kinda like these characters, they are loosely pleasing and nice. But not great inclusions for the main cast of a comedy.

The second season felt kind of lackluster and dull but the third season was legitimately enjoyable.
It felt like the creative team were just getting their rhythm back but they are probably going to get canceled if the final episode is any indication.
Yeah, that's how I feel about it. Watched up through Cyranos last night. Almost every complaint I had about S2 has been fixed. Frida and Harriet are comedically flawed now, Confucius is fleshed out, FridaXCleo got shown as toxic and they had a messy break-up (which is the only acceptable state for a relationship in this show), Abe and JFK are getting more of a focus, and it's leaning into the absurd more. I wish this had been S2, because it's solid now and that previous trainwreck season fricked it over in advance.
Frida is still boring as hell and Cleo is beyond saving.
Confucius would have made a funnier comedy pairing with Gandhi. The two wise men being an adhd freak and a zoomer social media influencer would have been funnier than what they have going now.

S2 killed the hype but the lack of promotion for s3 killed any interest left for Clone High. There were a lot of people barely aware there would even be another season somehow despite both being written closely and announced together.

There is nothing to really say about it. It is absolutely miserable to watch. The constant random hook ups feel really terrible and I have no idea who any of these returning characters are anymore. This doesn't even feel like they're mocking teen dramas anymore.
Can't wait for Undergrads to go through the same thing.

It was announced a long time ago back in 2018 and I assume has just been in development hell, but yeah it's still being worked on.
Again, I don't have high hopes for this. Reboots lately seem to not be able to resist making surface level commentary on zoomer culture.
They purposely wanted to get rid of their old audience, though. This is what happens. It’s not like we aren’t over saturated with entertainment. People will find new shows and not come back.

season 2 wasn't funny
The revival's first episode about "cancel culture" killed it. Abe was way out of character just to force the plot.
Yeah, for a lack of a better word centering an episode around it was cringe especially in 2023 making it come off outdated as frick. It wasn't even the worst of the bunch, there were at least a few jokes that were more or less in line with s1.
That was the only episode written by the original creators - which does certainly showcase why they weren't fit to write the show anymore.

Todd Kauffman was the character designer for Total Drama and previously did some work on Clone High. If I remember right he said they told him to copy it's style for TD.
Of course it's fricking dead, it's been fricking dead for years. Imagine thinking you can pick up right where you left off on a show 20 years later and still have it be good. That era is gone and it will never come back.
The 2nd season killed everyones interest in it.

A good chunk of s2 got leaked through storyboards and production art too lol. I still remember there being a few minor differences between the pilot and the actual ep 1.

It's so far gone from the original. All my favorite characters are just woke corpses being puppeted around and they STILL have the nerve to tease Gandhi here and there.
All of the main cast was changed because the show's core of being a parody of 2000s teen dramas was abandoned since those don't exist anymore.
And it was all for the worse, generally.

Several returning characters just feel antiquated and have no place in the show anymore. It feels like they have no idea what to even have Cleo and Abe doing each episode.
I feel like it's more of an indicator of bad writing than those characters simply being outdated, it's not like the new clones are any better despite being more "with the times".

The new writers hate Abe so it's not a surprise that they don't do much with him.
That's a shame because while I found Season 2 decent, Season 3 was a major improvement. Ended up laughing more throughout it, and the nods to Season 1 were nice.

Eh, I think it's much better than season 2, but still suffers from a terrible premise.
Taking the irreverent and very cartoony style of Clone High and trying to tell a serious romance story with it is really dumb. It makes everything feel so childish, I've watched literal kids shows and felt way more mature.
It's better then the last season, I guess the romance plots land better.
There are some decent historical jokes, which as a big Cinemaphiletory guy, I like.
But it's too sweet, I don't want genuine heart felt moments from Clone High. Because then this is just a literal children's show with meaningless teen romance drama, moral lessons, and group hugs. It's a kids show which says frick and talks about sex.
I heard an interview where, who is it, Craig and Miller? That they like having sincere stories now, and it was their call to make Clone High's revival take itself seriously.
Really bad move.
The only way you could pull it off is if you wrote the series as a genuine drama and scaled back the comedy, to turn it into a real teen drama show.
