I remember being obsessed with Beetlejuice and begging to get a Happy Meal just for the toy. I think I got some crappy non-Beetlejuice character and I must've been visibly disappointed cause my dad went back to the cashier and returned with a toy of Beetlejuice himself. As a kid, I didn't know you could just skip the guessing game stuff with Happy Meals and that blew my mind.
I wish I could remember which toy it was.
I had a ton of the action figures. I don't think I ever processed that they were disconnected from the animated series, but I don't think it ever bothered me either.
I remember wanting toys if the cartoon but they only had the Tim Burton version. Which I both loved, but the cartoon was MORE of Beetlejuice with more """"depth"""" if that makes any sense.
Dang that Lydia looks derpy
>my dad went back to the cashier and returned with a toy of Beetlejuice himself
I think they discourage that because they don't want the hassle of distributing select toys on demand.
I have a vague memory of encountering this once or twice on TV as a young child. I'm not certain if the memory is real or fabricated though.
i recall it being in heavy syndication. it was just on all the time it seemed like and as a kid I could really take or leave it but as an adult I find it very charming. it's a surprisingly well made cartoon unique style, great VA performances and production music.
it puts me into a very nostalgic mood.
Greasy '80s business guy was more-or-less current when this episode was made.
I saw a few episodes in its last legs of syndication repeats. I saw the cartoon long before I saw the movie, I had the exact same experience with Ghostbusters. I kept wondering why Egon wasn't blonde and waited the whole movie for Mr. Stay Puft to show up so he wasn't exactly a surprise.
Didn't watch the show but he was the worst part of the movie
How!? He's literally the best part
Movie was so-so, except the parts with Harry Belafonte music (dinner scene and ending).
Interestingly, I found an alternate ending with much less BJ and I think it's better than the one they used.
But I enjoyed the cartoon. Lydia cute.
Movie's a clever parody of the horror genre
Yes, let's talk about ME!
>wnh a crossover with Beetlejuice and Space Ghost
>wnh a crossover with Beetlejuice and Ghostbusters
>breasts
how bad is the sequel going to be with modern Hollywood and modern Tim Burton?
Jenna Ortega is probably going to be Lydias daughter so take what you will from that
I'm calling it now, BJ is the father.
no, it'll be Johnny Depp because he is also in the movie
Movie was better
The show was meh. Beetlejuice does not work as a protagonist. And neighbors I could not stand.
>Beetlejuice does not work as a protagonist.
Quite the contrary. BJ being an unrepentant jerk and the show refusing to teach him otherwise made him stand out from the pack at the time. Hell, even now.
The musical is the best Beetlejuice media
I shipped BJ and Lyds before I even knew what shipping was.
Not only was I very aware of it in 1989 when it first premiered, I still watch it every so often today. It holds up really well.
This and Clarissa Explains It All is vivid in my memory
I have never heard of this show
Your loss, youngin'.
Lydia is supreme ToT
This show was a bigger mold on my brain that I thought, and re watching first couple of episodes, it still gives me good vibes.
I have even recommended this show to parents who said their daughter "loved this guy," which means she had only seen the movie because the cartoon is still hard to find.
I do wish Molly McGee had more episodes, because it's got a good modern Beetlejuice vibe to it. I'm bummed they quit the show as it was getting good.
Yeah, I bought the DVD box set when it came out years ago, and the show holds up pretty goddamn well.
i love beetlebabes. sorry.
The nostalgiaween intro this cartoon was based on is kino
I remember my first episode watching it on prime time at a aunt's house. It was the night before Halloween or around Halloween. Beetlejuice to me is the spirit of Spooky season in general.
