Surprised to hear only Mark Kermode bring up Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
Terrible idea in 1994. Terrible ever since. Every attempt to tone it up or down has made it successfully worse. If you HAVE actually made decent non-postmodernist flicks, just don't try your hand at postmodern ones. You are never going to be the writer/director who finally gets it right.
WCNN had potential in its plot and the whole premise of films as Binding Rituals. They should have had Heather start writing the world around her to shape reality and stop Freddy
This is gonna blow your mind OP but movies were breaking the fourth wall and being cheeky about their form and the compact they made with the audience 120 years ago and for that entire time since. If you're the kind of queer who uses buzz words like 'metamodern' though I can see how you wouldn't know that since for you anything but a narrow band of genre shlock for teenage boys from the past few decades is irrelevant.
this movie was beyond terrible. the wachoski's went full on woke and decided to cancel their original characters and replace them with younger woke mode equivilents. turned neo and trinity into le ebil middle class wypipo.
>dont want the studio to ruin the movie >I know! I'll just ruin it myself!
Take the series away from them. I want anthologies. I want video games. I want the Matrix Cinematic Universe. It hurts so bad.
>>I know! I'll just ruin it myself!
Unironically yes. The concept of "we need to continue shitting out sequels until it's a bloating steaming pile of diarrhea that's been rebooted half a dozen times and people new to the series can't even tell where to start" needs to die. They made a good trilogy. The story was finished. Done. Ended. Doesn't need to continue. Stop trying to fricking force it to go on, where you have to contrive reasons to make it all a dream/lie/misunderstanding and the original characters now idiot losers who went through it all for nothing so they can pass the torch to some new young adults to do the exact same thing again. Wachowski's a braindamaged troony now, but even he understood this.
>Wachowski's a braindamaged troony now, but even he understood this
This is a correct take, but it's also that he's self-aware. The first Wachowski brother to go troony full on admitted it was all due to a fetish. This is basically all spelled out in Resurrection. That weird, grimey, computery EDM life-style from 1999 turned into a mainstream commercial filled gay-fest, that completely embarrasses the people who started the trend without wanting it to become one.
>Star Wars >wanting something that continues endlessly until it's a parody of its former self, has lost all soul and anything that made it worthwhile in the first place, has no actual story and just shits out new turds endlessly, invents new characters and villains out of the blue that were supposedly hiding and waiting for decades, conflict can never end and will always have some stupid reason to keep going
Gross.
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. A testament to great film makers pure luck, passion and once in a lifetime opportunity to catch lightning in a bottle, and then never catch it again.
I turned this off after forty minutes. EVERYTHING about it was bad. The actors were bad, the editing was bad, the costumes and colors were bad, the choreography was bad and even the music was bad. Some of the effects were considerably worse than the 1999 ones. The annoying meta aspect was the least offensive part of all this but it made the movie fricking boring from the start.
I remember a few months ago Zaslav axed a whole slew of franchise movies, including some which were already completed. I bet that decision was in response to movies like this one, which only serve to damage the integrity of the brand. It's a stupid idea to belittle the studio releasing your movie in the movie itself.
No one watched this. Like at all
i did
I did, ruined a weekend.
It's going to be watched religiously by the next generation as the first of its kind honestly.
>metamodern
great now im mad
i didnt need that this morning, butthole

i actually somewhat enjoyed new nightmare. it wasn't terrible. stuff like that can work in the horror genre. but not in the sci fi genre.

I've seen Great Train Robbery homosexual. Breaking the fourth wall is not what metamodern means.
Neo and Trinity being codependent really detracts from the movie

This was all true after the first film

This in itself is highly debatable.
These movies really proved they had a universe that could be on tbe same level as Star Wars or Lotr or something and did nothing with it.

People always forget last action hero for some reason.

I loved it. Shits on the modern world and delivers both emotionally and lore-wise.
this movie made apparent which of the Wachowski brothers actually made the movie and which one was a goyslop creator all along
HBO Max release was like a death sentence, I feel.

i tapped out when they started playing white rabbit
he's forgetting the original
>you should believe in god because it's a preferable explanation
