Beating her ass is just a huge exaggeration of the fight. She was winning the vast majority and it was a Fourarms punch + pillar that won after she chased everyone around for the day. Not saying Ben pulling off the pillar move wasn't nice, the original point was that the girls frequently got higher accolades while he waffled around with bad transformations

Not really? At least certainly not in AF1-2. The rest is about on par with OV but Ben ends up more like a punchline in those situations(ie Walkatrout). Also in OV the mistransformations are blamed on him slapping the watch like an idiot, and he keeps doing it after Azmuth tells him why it's happening.

Alien X spam is lame, but it's less about Bens and more about Bellicus and Serena being changed to be infinitely more easy to reason with. With Aggregor he did go Alien X and they weren't being helpful so Paradox pulled him out, I'm missing your point there. Ben talked big but never actually acted on Kevin and set up a scenario to save him prior. Ben tosses a lot of good will out of the way for Kevin in Rooters as well, though I forget how actively he resigns Kevin to death. For Chromastone I agree.

Not really following, that's the power of the arc antagonist in a scenario with stakes. He was also changed to take permanent damage. Struggling against major enemies isn't comparable to a comedic trouncing if we're talking about being cool.

Guess that's a matter of preference. OV felt more like random goofy stuff followed by a one-shot at the end. Ben was still trying though, just wienery(which is standard fare after AFS2)

I'm pretty sure Paradox just confirms it outright. They're incredibly stubborn prior to Omniverse, especially in that one game Paradox references where Albedo gets trapped for like a hundred years. "Let me control Alien X and you two can argue in peace" definitely wouldn't fly.

I see your point, but we could say that about OV Ben if they dismissed the universe or the court of law. Ben in general is bad as arguing, but he 100% tried to use Alien X to solve the situation and that's where the whole "keys" thing came from. In UA the Celestialsapien's mother did nothing during that situation while they were fighting on her hands. That should get across how indecisive they were.

Magic's reinclusion into the series doesn't make any sense. AF went on about how it's not real, only for Charmcaster to show up and start using magic with zero fanfare. Gwen even beats her with a spell from her old book, but the show never bothers explaining why Gwen stopped using spells or why she started using them from that point onward.

That's the same moronic excuse they give for Ben not having a personality in Alien Force and by the time we get to OV both Ben and Gwen were walked back to being more like there OS selves, if someone "grows out" of old old habits it's because they're growing into new ones but instead it robs them of what made them fun in the original series with nothing to replace it.

OV Gwen is a over achieving know it all who went to collage early and has a Super heroine side gig that's 1 to 1 what OS Gwen would be doing at that age, and they had already worked to fix Ben's personality midway through UAF.
What dynamic did they even have as a trio Kevin and Gwen had their own thing and Ben was just there, Rook pulled more weight then the two of them ever did outside episodes solely focused on either Gwen or Kevin.

OV Gwen is not a know-it-all and she's generally respectful to Ben. I have no issue with her going to college early and her scholarly pursuits are kept throughout, especially in UA where an episode is dedicated to it. Adjusted UAF Ben is not like OS Ben either, save AF Season 3 which is probably the worst Ben of them all - who was trying to ape OS Ben directly. OV Ben vs OS Ben is especially apparent in OV itself given that they wrote lots of OS Ben fairly faithfully and the personality has stark differences. People seem to imply there's some massive Ben third wheeling in UAF but I just never got that impression, they're always talking with one another as a trio.

Not that guy. Didn't realize there were Rook haters t b h. Though Rook definitely did not bring as much fun as Gwen and Kevin did cumulatively for me. The "earth customs"/rookie cop dynamics can get old, especially when he's Ben's only person to talk to most of the time. The Omniverse quartet is my favorite group dynamic of all, especially with some Max on the side, but that happened incredibly rarely because of lame mandates.

I basically agree except that isn't a Rook problem, it's a Ben and one other person problem. I think Rook works great as the glue for the early OV episodes. Ben and Gwen, Ben and Kevin, etc. would get just as old too. Rook had a couple hundred episodes to catch up on so I can get sidelining other people for a bit, but unfortunately exec decisions made this a longterm thing.

I mean as far as consistency goes we don't have any other example of a longtime duo since all other series are trios. Multiple people to me just helps prevent the other person from feeling like Ben's plucky sidekick.

Max takes a back seat through most of the OS and reboot Ben does most of his best work as part of a duo with Gwen it's a Bart and Lisa Simpson dynamic and with Rook you something more like Kirk and Spock/Green Hornet and Kato.

If you're gonna call him a "useless jobber" you're probably not the person to talk about this with, but with no damage fights are just lagging around until Ben turns into his last alien and oneshots. The damage doesn't have to always be visualized and cripple Ben for that to matter.

I reached AF on my rewatch recently and found the opposite to be true. It's more that he's competent and the enemies match with their own force and skills. I'll have to see how I feel once I reach OV but I prefer Ben losing out after getting thrashed early to endless transformations with no sustained damage, don't care if that makes him come off as a jobber or weak or whatever. Also some great transformation combos in an early episode of AF but I don't think they do that ever again outside of master control segments.

The episode 2 encounter? I'm confused by the intention if so. It's establishing a Highbreed's level of power and that's his first time as Humungousaur, I'm missing the expectation unless the Highbreed commanders get weaker in later episodes. I'm also missing how that would apply to OV given that Khyber basically demolishes Ben with Zed numerous times(and Ben beating Zed the first time would stupid as well).
