Let's discuss what we think are the best comics of this decade, the Roaring 2020s, so far. This might be the last of these I make for this decade for a while. Next thread, we'll discuss the best comics of the 2010s.
What's Comic of the Year for 2022, in your opinion?
Pic is from Google Images.
Do A Powerbomb
Patently false.
Great art, but I didn't care for it otherwise.
Here's a list of comics I have NOT gone through yet. About half of these are not as easy to obtain, so I'll take my time in finding and reading them.
I will be reading while this thread is up, and I'll post a chart of notable comics from the last three years in a bit.
I wasn't a big fan of Once and Future. The concept was interesting, but almost every issue between the first and the last felt as though you could read one and have read them all. It was mostly just spinning its wheels until the last one or two issues, when it abruptly slapped its knees, said "WELP, I'd better get going," stood up, and then ended the story.
You can cross Vanish off the list. Odds are we'll never get issue 2.
Vanish is on like its third or fourth issue now. And it's fricking shit.
Also, the Manara Sin City is not even out yet. Are you somehow from the future AND the past?
The chart is for "anticipated reads" of this decade.
ive read a few
>forbidden surgeries
fanzine level trash
>joseph smith
boring bio about a person i dont care for, prefer other noah's works
>no one else
johnson doing tomine
>paying the land
the most boring info dump, didn't finish
>good asian
run of the mill, overhyped
>tomine
loved this, no holds barred
>laila starr
liked this for its ambition
>strange death
first 200 pages a must read for anybody interested in drawing or newspaper strips, the last third tedious drivel and conspiracy theories
>tiki
always check new smith but gave up quickly
>tunnels
rodan seems to have stopped tracing photos and there's little left
Interesting. Thanks for this.
Anything not listed that you liked?
>Good Asian
I'll have to look into it.
Juni Ba's stuff is great, give djeliya and Monkey Meat a read. Days of Sand was a nice little read as well. I think Shaolin Cowboy is starting to wear it's welcome, Darrow is a great artist that can make some great action but everything else is kind of shit.
I didn't like Monkey Meat at all. I will give it props for the style, and I hope Djeliya is better.
Never read Shaolin Cowboy, but I loved Hard Boiled.
I was bored almost the whole way through. And I agree, the art wasn't exactly Hark! A Vagrant.
Too much undue praise, I say.
What didn't you like about Monkey Meat? I thought it was nice for the anthology thing it was going for. Of course I prefer Djeliya since it's more narrative heavy and the space Afro-futurism is pretty cool.
Also Shaolin Cowboy is basically Hard Boiled with the plot and premise replaced with a shitpost. It also gets weirdly Trump-centric with the later stories to the point it's plastered all over the background.
>Monkey Meat
I just wasn't entertained by it in any way, not even by the highly-stylized art.
>It also gets weirdly Trump-centric
That's tiresome.
Keep warm, b***h.
I hope more people start paying attention to Pink Lemonade because it's been so damn good, the newest issue that just came out was the best yet. Fun, innovative, a little heartbreaking. Good shit
That series started in 2022, it's half into the one year and half into this one
Thanks for bringing this up. I hadn't heard of it before.
There were two issues published by It’s Alive 2019-2020 but he he reworked them with this new issue. Not sure if it was just coloring or something else too.
Top 10 For 2022 (No Particular Order)
>Savage Avengers.
>Moon Knight (2021) by Jed Mackay
>Do a Powerbomb
>Once And Future
>Action Comics by Kennedy Johnson
>The Flash by Jeremy Adams
>Nightwing by Tom Taylor
>Robin (2021) by Joshua Williamson
>The Human Target by Tom King
> Rogue Sun
Is Radiant Black recommended before jumping into Rogue Sun?
Moon Knight was kind of awful.
Good to know. I may give it a look here shortly.
I'll see if the only issue is worthwhile. I don't like Cates as it is.
>Is Radiant Black recommended before jumping into Rogue Sun?
Not at all, there's some mentions here and there but they designed the Massive-Verse to be enjoyed separately for a full experience
It's like the Kirkman universe stuff and how you don't need to read everything just to get into Invincible
I do recommend Supermassive though if you want to see more content of Marcus being a hero
In the 2010's? Frick, my memory sucks shit. But Swamp Thing and Animal from the New 52 were fricking great. I dont care what anyone says about the New 52, that shit was awesome. Green Lantern had some solid runs during that time but not as good. Justice League International: Generation Lost was damn good too. I have no doubt there are a lot more but I'd have to look over a list or something.
As for 2022? I like the new Spawn Stuff and a lot of the X-Men stuff. Is it the best? Probably not. But thats what I read and I really liked um. X-Men has some stupid comments here and there about inclusion or men being in charge or some shit, but I just ignore them.
Oh, I forgot about this little gem. I fricking loved this book. Bunn was at his best here (I liked his Magneto comic too but it wasnt near as good as this). Western setting + all sorts of occult shit. Was a fun read to say the least.
Also, when I googled this image - apparently this had a failed TV pilot? I'm so disappointed to find this out. This would have been a great fricking show.
disagree, started strong but went nowhere fast
Sorry you didn't enjoy it as much as I did. I really liked it.
was a real missed opportunity for me. Recommended to some friends. But by the middle i felt like i was forcing myself to read for payoffs that never came.
lol
>"I'm just gonna assume no one will be murdered, raped, brutally assaulted, or accidentally light themselves or others on fire at this riot"
>*flies away*
Title? So I can avoid it.
Get the frick up.
bump
Red Room is should be up there.
Is this finished or near finishing?
The first two volumes are finished. One more to follow.
I forgot about the Kayfabe.
Here are some noteworthy comics for the decade.
I removed a few like Wonder Woman: Dead Earth and The Crimson Cage.
Here are my favorite comics of the 2020s, arguably the only ones I liked.
I would have liked to get a solid nine from all the stuff I read.
from* the decade
so random
Yeah. Been reading from everything to try to find stuff I liked.
Good Asian is way better than I was expecting. Great comic.
bump
>of the decade
We're only 3 years in, grasshopper
It’s for fun, sensei
People make top 10 or top 20 lists for each year. Shouldn't be too hard to get something out of three whole years.
The next thread should have a lot more participation.
Zerocalcare
Daytripper
My Favorite Thing Is Monsters
Spinning
This One Summer
Building Stories
L'Arabe du futur
Le bleu est une couleur chaude
Le Rapport de Brodeck
Les Vieux Fourneaux
Lastman
Blast
Ardalen
short comics by Eleanor Davis
The Art of Charlie Chan Hock Chye
Zahra's Paradise
Through the Woods
Nimona
The Nao of Brown
Arsene Schrauwen
Becoming Unbecoming
A Chinese Life
That's for the next thread. This thread is about the 2020s.
Nimona is garbage.
I really loved Karmen.
I looked it up on March's French Wikipedia page, and it's listed under an umbrella series called The Dream, written by Jean Dufaux. Karmen is listed as the second installment, though it's written and drawn by March.
I'll look and see if I can find the first part, called Jude.
Anyone here read Ducks? I made a thread on it last time, and it got a decent amount of replies.
I did. A bit too long and sloppy art here and there, but I enjoyed it
Its Judge dredd and 2000AD just like every other decade, with heavy metal magazine coming in a tight second place.
Name some of the best Judge Dredd and Heavy Metal Magazine stories from this decade.
And 2000 AD, I forgot to mention.
Same as with Ultrasound, I wish this was drawn better.
Read it!
What?
Alright.
Next thread will focus on the 2010s, as I've said before. After a few of those, perhaps I'll move on to the 2000s, and so on.
I will continue to update this chart as well, maybe post it in each thread.
