We've gotten MCs like that before though? Domon, Heero, Garrod, Setsuna, and Mika were all plenty experienced already by the time we see them. Some more than others with more powerful Gundams yes but it was there. Suletta's just following in their footsteps rather than Amuro which makes sense considering her background of being compatible with the GUND-ARM system from an early age and how the prologue novel reveals that her mom is using Suletta as a tool of revenge which Aerial disapproves of.

Did you not watch the prologue? She's piloting a mobile suit that's banned with the penalty being death, and they already have anti-GUND technology.
In 00 the entire military might of the planet ganged up on 4 gundams for over 15 hours and the only reason why the gundams almost lost was because of fatigue from the pilots. The MS themselves were hardly dented.
But the appeal of that was finally seeing the blocs work together and pointing out that if they can disable the pilots, then the machines aren't all that impossible to take down.
Yeah and now that everyone knows Aerial is a Gund-Arm they can just use the Gund disabling technology that was used to wipe out the other gundams 10 years ago.
It feels like it doesn't have enough build up though. In 00 it was a lot of pilots having to get cheeky to even stand a chance and then after they start suceeding at that they get rewarded with better mobile suits. It feels like it's happening way too quick here.

But the whole mega corporations and hyper capitalism + transhumanism in space seems to be the main theme of this Gundam, which has very little to do with Utena. In fact it's rather original concept for Gundam (although not for sci-fi) because it doesn't start with generic war setting but how potential war is commercialized.

Really like the style this show has of being a setting where bad things have hapened and will happen but the main characters are in a safe place with low stakes conflict. For now.
Rather than having a breezy academy of adventure setting with an eventual dark twist there's a really engaging tension I'm feeling already waiting for that shoe to drop.

I think there might be more to Eri than meets the eye. She acts suuuper moronic, like more moronic than some cute girls doing cute things anime. Her mother sent her to frick up the Beneritt Group, this also means the heir.
She acts super moronic because according to the novella on the website she's been living on Mercury since she was 4 or 5 (at 16 now, that's more than 10 years; which is all of her life that she remembers by that point), which is a mining colony with no other children full stop and little in the way of entertainment or socializing for the sole child there. The only entertainment she had was playing the "shooting game" in Aerial's wienerpit, and watching some anime that had been stored on Aerial. She has no social skills because she didn't have any peers to socialize with, and a lot of people on Mercury ostracized her until she started rescuing people from mining accidents as she grew up. She isn't familiar with everyday things that the rich/elite sent to that school take for granted because a poor ass mining colony in the backass of the Solar System doesn't have things they take for granted; like actual vegetables instead of produce made for long term storage like pastes and whatnot. Her sense of fashion etc. is behind the times because all of the culture she had exposure to was older stuff passed on by people who hadn't been in a cultural hub in a decade or more themselves.
She'll grow more accustomed to things as she socializes more with peers her age, and become less socially anxious and more confident like when piloting more than likely.

IBO did lose a truckload of popularity as it was airing and Age did flop hard in TV ratings so half the time they are correct.
AGE is pretty much the only time they're actually right though, Even G Reco was noted to bring in new fans even if older ones didn't like it(which is what Tomino didn't like, he wanted it to be universally liked like the movies currently are)

Huh? The G-Reco movies have performed pretty poorly at the Japanese box-office from what little I've seen; with the third movie only pulling in a few thousand dollars in it's opening weekend if I recall. The people who do see them might universally like them, but that doesn't make them universally liked and even then, it's somewhat of a selection bias since it's mostly going to be people who liked the TV show that are going to see the movies.

For limited releases they've actually done quite well. If there wasn't a guarantee to make revenue Sunrise wouldn't have bothered I mean look how poorly Sunrise has treated IBO post series with that "complete" edition, the ONA and the mobage which will never come out. G-Reco never had a negative reception in Japan to begin with so of course the reception of the movies will come from those who liked it already.
