Truth be told there are no greater monsters than humans.

Sure that Kaiju sized monstrosity has CDPS (Cataclysmic Damage Per Second). But if given the opportunity, we'll rape that ass. Does it even have an ass.

      >humans are le evil
Frick off. Many humans are pieces of shit who deserve death but not me, I'm perfect. If human civilization consisted solely of my clones it'd be a paradise.

No, almost no humans are monsters. We are the bearers of civilization, the light of consciousness in the lifeless void. Our minds bring meaning to random dust. Our will is our own, internal, forging resolve independent of the cosmos around it. We are more than matter reacting to it's environment. We decide our fate. We are the ones who deny entropy. We are the greatest things in all creation. Our minds perceive the cosmos and have even imagined ways to understand it's underlying principals and use it to our advantage. Not only are we aware of black holes, we have the math on how to use them to generate energy past the heat death of the universe. Our collective will to exist has perceived of trillions of years into the future and how to deny even that end. There is no monster we will not face, no challenge too bleak to break our spirit.

Monster movies show this. They present great terror and existential crisis, and all we do is imagine how to rearrange the universe to our will to defeat it. Bigger guns, stronger bombs, harder metals. Nobody cries during a Godzilla movie when it stomps on buildings, the challenge is thrilling and we always know humanity will overcome. Not only do we create monsters greater than any we have ever really faced, we still know we will beat them. The indomitable will of humanity is a strength unlike anything else in the universe. We will overcome our faults. Humanity is destine for greatness, we all feel it. Someday we will span the stars, and if the answer to the fermi paradox is the dark forest then we will rout that beast too.

Precisely! What about rape? I'd try to immobilize it and then rape a hole, if it has a safe one. One could always c**t off a tentacle, cut a onahole in it and go at that but raping the main body would be my first go.to.

      >does the "humans are the real monsters" trope AND the "christian goes crazy during apocalypse" trope
      >It's somehow still great and doesn't feel preachy at all
      How did they do it?

That's a coincidence. But I think that's what makes the movie good, is that it's left up to interpretation. There's no cringy meta speeches where the characters are telling the audience what to think, they're just doing what they can to survive.

        >How did they do it?
Because Stephen King is an excellent writer who creates well-realized characters. The bible thumper in The Mist isn't an attack on christianity, she's a fricking nutjob who has always been a nutjob and was ostracized by the community because of said nuttery. it wasn't until the community found themselves in a situation they didn't understand that they began listening to her madness at all.

Basically the culprit isn't Christianity, the culprit is a cuckoo b***h who weaponized her faith to abuse others with it.

The leader of the group was first detailed as being a creepy crone that spread nonsense. When she gains power and tries to kill the main characters she comes off as a cult leader/ Witch.
I think if she had been a guy that was a minister then it would have came off worse, that or if Stephen King directed instead of Darabont. King would have made this movie far worse.

King himself thought it was better than the ending to his story. The only person I know who didn't like it was a parent.

I remember when they announced a film adaptation in the 90's and I was a teen and naive, and was looking forward to it.
When it finally came to fruition in the 2000's I was jaded and got bad vibes when the first CG tentacles showed up.

Then I sat back and watched the best modern creature feature I'd ever seen.
