How many more years do the oscars have? Will Hollywood vanity be stronger than the shame of dwindling viewers and cultural relevancy? The average person has watched 1-2 of these movies and heard of maybe 1 more of them. So what's the incentive to watch exactly?
I watched a lot of Japanese normie stuff like Koreeda and Kitano movies. I don't think I watched a single hollywood production that came out last year. Closest I got was downloading Oppenheimer and forgetting about it till I checked my torrent list just now.

Past Lives is the most critically acclaimed, but it won't win. I think this is third or fourth consecutive year where an East Asian film is the most acclaimed one.

I forgot about Aftersun. But in the last few years we got Parasite, Drive My Car and now Past Lives. All East Asian, but surprisingly diverse (Korea, Japan, USA).
Seen them all minus Barbie, American Fiction, and Zone of Interest. Watching Zone of Interest next week.
