Better Call Saul

after several years of slogging through 70+ episodes, all I have to say is ... what was the fricking point of all that

made zero fricking sense to completely ruin him like that "for fun" - absolute schizo Joker stuff

Vince was right to take the best character in BB and making a spinoff series that mostly doesn't frick with the main show.

you're right about the second half, how could they resist striking while the iron was hot like that

I'm not saying it was bad but was it really this good? I think BB was better, BCS dragged on way too fricking long, literally Nothing Happens: The Show.

I agree I like BB more, but I felt BCS was a worthy successor. I like how more intimate it felt with the characters, not everything needs to be fast paced like BB.

just wanders aimlessly for too long
each 2 seasons should be compressed into one, and the whole monochrome thing was fricking stupid
would have been a tight 3 season show.

the recast of the taxi guy to some sweaty mouse really threw me off
although given how the character turned out it's actually a better casting
the first guy was really intimidating in a fargo kind of way and then turns out he wasn't being threatening at all but just a weird fan lmao that whole storyline was a let down

IDK OP, I really, really liked rewatching it more than BB. The lawyer kino was just too good. The conflict between Chuck and Jimmy was something that always made me ponder a lot, trying to figure out to what degree were both justified, good, loving or hating etc. Or Jimmy's relationship with Kim, how Kim gets unexpectedly corrupted by Slippin' Jimmy. Jimmy's own degradation into Saul Goodman and then even further.

But I do admit, while I do really like the ending, I thought the last season was obviously rushed despite me enjoying the slow pace before. They really did end up taking too much of their sweet time there.

      >Or Jimmy's relationship with Kim, how Kim gets unexpectedly corrupted by Slippin' Jimmy. Jimmy's own degradation into Saul Goodman and then even further.
hopefully my explanation is coherent here but I basically just didn't buy it. It just gets presented as a sequence of events, A then B then Saul Goodman. I don't feel like the character development was actually there, or convincing
The lawyer kino was nice yeah. Chuck was interesting too.

I'm not in the best state to recall everything but I think there was some logic there. One reason he didn't fully commit to outright malicious scams at first in the series was because of Chuck. He really did want Chuck's approval and love and when he started to think that Chuck hated his guts (whether that's totally true or not, it's kinda hard because I do buy in the theory that his sickness isn't just correlated but caused by his treatment of Jimmy) he decided to go "screw it, I only stopped because of this guy but I'm super good at being Saul, let me be the wolf to pray on these sheep". Remember the scene when he's being interviewed for a job at that printer company? He first tries the pretty honest and not-too-sophistical way, and gets a decent reaction. But it's not guaranteed, especially since he has no sales experience. But then he decides to shit-test them in his own way. He turns on his very sophistical fast mouth and yaps his way into an instant hiring. What kind of suckers would hire him, who barely know him and only got convinced because he gave this emotion-provoking (instead of reason-appealing!) speech? Hell to them, let's rob 'em for easy peasy money instead.

To wrap up, Chuck was the thing preventing him from going into full scam mode, and then it was Kim although she was a much weaker barrier with a lot more leniency so he slid down more and doubled down more into Slippin Jimmy until he becomes Saul Goodman.

Jimmy becoming disillusioned with the legal system is a big part of season 4. His rant to big milkers Christie is basically the ethos of Saul Goodman.

I’ve watched the first 2 episodes of season 2. Does the nursing home plot get any better? I’ve found the show entertaining so far but this is starting to get boring. The subplot with Mike and the drug dealing nerd has been more interesting.

They were totally going to do something else with the original taxicab driver, the pandemic, the vacuum guy dying, and Bob Odenkirk getting a heart attack on set probably derailed the whole thing; it lost momentum.

they didn't know what the hell they are doing past season 1 but especially after chuck died. They got some entertaining moments with the surprise hit of Lalo but ultimately it was a pointless slog with nothing to say.
