he basically deserts his post with the help of his friends and family, swims to the uk and is picked up by another agent who tells him about how he was able to get his life back together after leaving the job
Season 2 does get some closure.
Season 3 would have been kino because of a secondary character (a kino comic relief type) getting a more central role, according to the show’s creator.
Checked and verified by a true patriot.
Season 2 has closure, like other anon said. It's worth it.
season 2 was dreadful though. season 1 is genuinely great however
I also hated it it the first time, especially how rushed it felt. Second viewing was a lot a lot a lot better. Except for the meanness of how the little accordion boy played out and the hard transition of the one song. Lesley's fast turn doesn't bother me anymore though.
It's Perpetual Grace LTD cancellation that pains me. Everyone go listen to the Structural Dynamics of Flow serial it's Patriot Extended Edition
Leslies podcast is hilarious. I recently did a rewatch of Perpetual Grace and while I of course wanna know what happens next...the last scene sets up a so painful hilarious confrontation of all characters that I believe it's kind of a genius way to have your show getting cancelled on it
The first season was the best television in years, and Amazon criminally under-advertised it.
It was also clear that Steven Conrad was running out of steam by the second season and limped to the finish line. He has a habit of going back to the same absurdist wells again and again and again.
Perpetual Grace Ltd. is almost completely unwatchable if you've watched Patriot beforehand.
>The first season was the best television in years, and Amazon criminally under-advertised it.
I like to believe that my efforts shilling are the only reason it has any sort of following here. I watched it when it first came out as a fricking amazon pilot candidate back when they used to do that. I made daily threads for almost a year, most of which died with less than 10 replies. I swear to god it felt like I did more to advertise this show than Amazon.
I tried watching episode 1 a few days ago and did not particularly care for it (though the jiu-jitsu fighters part in the house was pretty funny). Does it get a lot better from here or is it just not my kind of show?

the title, though fine in hindsight, also does it a disservice for prospective viewers
I learned about it from Jason Pargin on TikTok.
I would NEVER have touched it with that title otherwise.
season two should have been a brand new mission, after like a two year time skip or something. felt like the whole season was just a really long final episode of season one.
He's a spy/assassin but just wants to be a stoner wastoid and play Bob Dylan on his guitar in the park. Compare to Barry who's a hitman that wants to be a theater actor. Also wacky but really well written supporting characters
They both have dark comedy elements, though Patriot is far darker and more serious, while Barry is mostly just silly.
Patriot is also much better than Barry, but it also has far less mainstream appeal and success, so it's sort of natural to say that Barry is the watered-down plebe version.
that's a shame, because I really liked the first 2 seasons of Barry but then Bill hader got his head up in his ass for the remainder. Should've known this when I heard him say in Bill burr's podcast that of all things the violence and murder in the show cannot be funny.
>The scene where he just kidnaps that kid in the bathroom to pretend to have a family >The scene where Red from That 70s Show talks about his cocaine problem >Interviewing at the company and then shoving that guy in front of the car in the first episode just for the guy to come back as a moron that he has to help around the office >His brother telling his secret mulatto son about how he was conceived >The entire Dennis character
That's off the top of my head and I watched this show years ago. Pure kino
Don't forget the infinite roshambo match, John somehow pulling the perfect piping presentation out of his ass, and being blackmailed by ichabod for a hug.
>the basement scene with Dennis’ twin daughters reveal >the scene where Dennis and Edward open the safe box >the video message Dennis and Edward create for Dennis’ wife to fake an alternative story for how Dennis got herpes >the flashback scene where John is in training and he’s thought how to fight a dog and how to knock out a woman using a bicycle >the one-take scene of the “gang” stealing the gun from the Parisian grocery store
And many more
Patriot is about John, a trained CIA contractor from Texas whose father the director of National Intelligence. John is basically a tool of his his father, performing missions that can't be officially sanctioned by the US government. These missions are also poorly funded and ramshackle.
Before the start of the show, John is tasked to shoot an a Iranian physicist who's on vacation in Egypt, but due to someone else's frick-up, he instead shoots a male hotel maid who's only making the guy's bed. John is then captured and tortured for months by the Egyptians, and is eventually freed. He's deeply, deeply traumatized from this, and can't come home to the US yet, so he spends his time getting stoned in Amsterdam recording folk music under a fake name and participating in mechanical bull riding contests.
The show begins with John being given a new mission - he needs to get a job as a pipeline engineer at an engineering firm in Milwaukee that does business with Iran through intermediaries in Luxembourg, in order to funnel money to moderates in Iran to buy votes in their upcoming election Almost immediately, this plan gets fricked up in a number of ways, and John is forced to improvise again and again and again, pushing his body and his mental state to the limits in a spiraling cascade of absurdity in order to keep the mission alive.
I loved how it contrasted all other spy series/films were the intelligence apparatus is almost always impeccable and god-like. Literally all of the problems he has to deal with are caused by incompetent agents or over demanding higher ups (his dad), on top of some natural bad luck.
The fact that in the cancelled third season it was Dennis that was going to take the money to Iran makes me think that something else got messed up.
Being filtered like that is weak anon.
If you like to shit on the CIA then this series is for you: they show the incompetence, the boorishness of the intelligence apparatus and how the more they act like gods they end up with their butts on the ground. The “enemies”, the Iranians, are shown as much more organized, canny, smart and professional.
I'll just take your word on it. I hate watching things that aren't finished and never will be.
I still had wished for a season 3 but its an optimistic ending
Dennis being tasked to deliver the suitcase to Iran instead of John would have been so great.
yeah and them they could've opened season 4 just like season 1 but with Dennis being parked in amsterdam not allowed to go back to the usa
It was? I remember it being pretty depressing

The most I've ever related to a television character. The show is amazing but never gets talked about, an actual hidden gem.
I wish there was more but the conclusion works well enough, it's not a total blueball
season 2 was dreadful though. season 1 is genuinely great however
Just finish it like 2 weeks ago.
I liked it and does get me a sense of closure, even if a shitty one.

Probably not your thing.
Fair enough, thanks for the honesty
No, it gets a LOT better. Episode 1 is a pilot
2nd season suffers from being condensed, actually. Written to be the same length as the 1st but given less episodes so the pacing is way off.

How is this like Barry? Dark wacky comedy?
Better than Barry, it's the absurdism that Barry touches sometimes but none of the bad gay emotional shit.
so it is dark comedy?
I wouldn't say it's comedy at all. It's surreal and absurdist drama.
it's basically James Bond but with ultra shitty logistics and James Bond is also a depressed folk singer
you have wrong numbers
hum?
your social security card
yes?
it got 9 numbers
and....that's not the right amount?
no

Dylan? He wants to play Townes Van Zandt.
It's been years since I've seen it lol. I do remember him being tortured by being locked in a box and they play American Pie on a loop for weeks lmao

The music in Patriot was absolute genius.

it's a masterpiece
Best show of the last decade and of course Amazon cancelled it

Yeah, I’ll pass
