I 100% believe Strange New Words was greenlit because the success of the Orville showed that the audience for old-style Trek was WAY bigger than the audience for the Tumblr-tier shit that is Discovery
Too little too late. I checked out of Trek after Picard season 1 despite being a live long fan. Nothing made after 2005 is canon as far as I'm concerned.
I haven't watched Strange New Worlds yet but I gotta watch it.

I thought I would like it because it came out as I finished watching Hell on Wheel's and had the same guy playing Pike. I dropped it after the 3rd episode.
Episodes 6 and 10 are pretty good. The rest are bad. Even when they kill off a likable character, it was at the ass end of a blindingly bad episode.
I think Lower Decks was greenlit because of Orville being branded as a comedy.
I think Strange New Worlds was greenlit just to parasite off of prequel characters like Spock, but that they crammed it with quips because Orville convinced them that comedy was selling.
It's also why Discovery has this guy, and how we got that godawful Short Trek with the Tribbles.

Its not that great at all, every episode has the same character development (aka none). Uhura gets picked on every episode and her dialog is juvenile tier The only remote good actors are Pike and Spock and the rest are just women

People don't have a problem with LGBTQ+ representation or discussion in movies and tv. They have problem with "woke" writing. Even old Trek had troony episodes and was multicultural as frick, black and asian people everywhere, except it never felt woke because wokeness isn't the exact equivalent to diversity or social justice.
Wokeness is a militant form of social justice. Its default stance is one of aggression, one with a chip on its shoulder and an axe to grind, which is contradictory to the peace, love, kindness and that everyone should get along message of old Star Trek. Wokeness believes that the current system needs to be completely turned on its head or torn down, including all of the progress made so far. Wokeness believes affirmative action and reparations is justice, even though its doled out unequally and irresponsibly. In fact many people at the forefront of these movements simply coopted them for personal gain like the BLM leader that embezzled donations to buy a supermansion.
In the end, old Star Trek stands for integrity, truth, and justice. Wokeness is justice without integrity or truth. Orville thankfully understands and carries on the values.
