Comparing MJ to Tay is ridiculous, the music industry is completely different now. What the radio plays and what record stores stock is more downstream than upstream from what people listen to now. Streaming and home recording has completely changed the market, when non-Americans normies were shitting their pants over MJ he was one of like two dozen American artists they were likely to hear with any regularity, while their domestic record labels were still desperately looking for local "talent" to poorly ape American genres that were still maturing in sound. The playing field is much more level now, musicians train themselves and the zeitgeist genres (electro pop, rap, reggaeton) have low barriers to entry.
not to memntion that to buy an MJ record, or a Celine Dion record or a Led Zeppelin record, meant
