That's my favorite thing about the vs movies. Earth has a few friendly, guardian monsters to defend earth like Mothra and King Caesar, but it's Godzilla our mistake that usually defeats invaders from space.
The movie weirdly implied something with him and Mothra that I don't get. I wouldn't even have noticed if they hadn't had the main characters gushing about Godzilla and Mothra and using camera angles to make it look all cutesy and shit.
I mean apparently they fought together in the past, they did on the picture.
'Murica, is your answer. >oh man god(zillaaaaaaalol) fricks that moth even though he's done nothing but try to kill it in the Japanese movies >rodan? Godzilla's best friend? yeah he's a real frickwad here.
There was a skeleton they didn't say was NOT Anuguirus
2 years ago
Anonymous
They also say that Anguirus MIGHT show up in the future. For now it's an unofficial cameo but I like to think that Godzilla always remembers those who were dear to him. Being this old he's been through a lot.
In the Toho movies it's more complicated than that. Godzilla could find common language with Mothra though he always prefered his male friends. Rodan was sometimes his enemy. Basically the Legendary movies did something else with them as far as their relationship with Godzilla is concerned but it's not too out there. These movies always played with that. There's nothing as strange as Ghidorah as the good guy like in GMK.
Can't really fault them for anything happening between them. It's a tough life with few opportunities to just relax. I mean I'd probably be a very lazy kaiju.
>be me >be big fricking pteradon sleeping in volcano bath for a few thousand years >hear some new alpha kaiju >whatever, decide to dip >humans? tf are they doing on top of my volcano >humans autistically chucking missiles at me in tiny metal birds >proceed to retaliate >humans whine about me curbstomping them
100% this. Before he went down for his nap humans used to worship him and praised whatever he did. Now he wakes up and does a little fly over for attention and humans start losing their minds.
What the hell is up with that? Don't they know that their God is showing them favor?
Well monsters are like people, anon. Some of them act out because they've had a hard life or been mistreated. But, like people, some of them are just...jerks.
He's the most animalistic of all the OG kaiju's we've seen and was only helping Godzilla and Mothra because they were the Alpha's at the time but when Godzilla get BTFO with the oxygen destroyer and Rodan previously had already gotten his ass kicked by Ghidorah he decided the best option was to just play servant to the Golden Devil
Probably why Mothra opted to spare him, Rodan's just a dumb animal in comparison with enough intelligence to know who to pick fights with and they have prior history with each other as allies
I think being an aspiring alpha he may be as sapient as everyone else. Some people are just flying c**ts. But I think Rodan is just someone who needs the right influence. Or maybe he's just a bit of a dumbass. Before even the movie was released the roles the three monsters are playing were summed up with one word and Godzilla and Mothra were the king and queen of course but Rodan was called "the Fool" so maybe there's something to it. Next time he can be someone Godzilla can rely on. I'm glad he survived.
Wait, that's supposed to be Vs King Ghidorah version? How can you tell?
Yeah, I said it, the whole 'Mutated furbies who gets shitstomped and comes back as a robot' is worse even than the four legged Mothra one, at least that one actually killed something.

Imagine how kino a Ghidorah sci-fi horror movie would be. You could have a spaceship and the crew encounters Ghidorah in space and it sees them as a threat.
You could give it a real Lovecraft vibe.
your hanging in these seats suspended infront of a LOUD AS SHIT imax.
Your supposed to be riding an armored bus thing evacuating Tokyo, You see Ghidorah swoop down and take out the front part of your convoy. shit flying everywhere.
Basic ascape chase. Godzilla shows up. you drive down his fricking back for reasons. get punted into the sky. parachute down and escape as you watch those 2 frick shit up..
you would 100% be punted out of your seat onto the deck 30ft below if the seatbelt failed. fricking hilarious.
Heres a bit of it I found. Looks like shit here but the ride is 10/10
Its about 10 minutes long or something.
full video of it? mind posting?
Theres this whole 5 minutes in the beginning before you go in where some larp JSDF soldier comes in to yell at you like your Private Pile telling you whats going on. which is pretty cringe but lulzy. First time it was a chick who was cute as frick, second go on it and it was some homosexual dude. bit disappointing. but yeah, second time I was sat on the end of a set of chairs so could see people feet dangling around 15 feet above. Kept expecting to see some niplet get yeeted out of his seat for a 50ft header off the floor all the way through.
Also there's this mist/spray that they pump into your face when Godzilla roars. a bit fricking rude I thought.
What I liked about this fight is how it was implied there was no reason for it and nothing was at stake, they were just bored. And when Mothra tries to convince them to fight Ghidora they're like "why would we go all the way to wherever this Ghidora guy is to fight him when we have a perfectly good fight going on right here?"
I always liked how Godzilla just randomly popped out of the water, saw Rodan, and just blows up a boat. Godzilla then followed Rodan for a few thousand miles just to fight.
Well for as weird as Showa is, it is rather consistent that the monsters are fully capable of their own thoughts and emotions and that Godzilla is a raging fightaholic. Rodan on the other hand was dealing with his mate dying and going through some shit, fun fact the volcano he emerges out of in Ghidroah The Three Headed Monster is the same one he tried to KILL HIMSELF in during the Rodan movie. He literally tried to commit suicide because his wife died and he popped out pissed off and looking for a fight.
He literally held Jet Jaguar hostage by holding his blade to his throat and everything, he wasn't just a dumb monster he actively knew the concept of taking a hostage to threaten.
I always thought the 1964 Rodan was the offspring of the two adult 1956 Rodan. We see a baby Rodan hatch in the original movie that I think was supposed to be the child of the two Rodan that died in the Mt. Aso eruption.
>We see a baby Rodan hatch in the original movie that I think was supposed to be the child of the two Rodan that died in the Mt. Aso eruption.
That's the one who turns into an adult and fricks shit up for the majority of the movie, it grew super fast and mutated from a regular old pterodactyl because of radiation from an atomic bomb testing according to what's said during the film. Yes, that baby hatched, supersized via atomic bomb radiation, went on a rampage, got a mate, and then tried to commit suicide in the span of one month. This happened.
The mate is apparently either completely unrelated or there was another egg nearby Shigeru didn't see hatch and we can toss incest onto the pile, point is the baby is from a flashback and the one in Ghidorah TTHM emerges from the same volcano that they died in and the eggs were in a completely different location.
>The mate is apparently either completely unrelated
I do love that the movie just has her show up.
Like this dude who's a mutated baby is out fricking shit up and out of nowhere a lady rodan shows up and he's like "I will literally die for you" in the span of two minutes. They don't even say "Oh, she came from XXX" or something, she just shows the frick up while he's in the middle of destroying a city like it's the most natural thing in the world. There was just this whole ass other Rodan out there nobody knew about until this one moment. Then in the span of 20 minutes she dies because oh yeah did I mention this happens in the last 3rd of the movie? Yeah she just shows up, first 1/3rd was about bug monsters that rodan just ate.
Showa is lovely in its insanity and I treasure it.

Yeah that movie is crazy, but I think the intent of the script was to build suspense by constantly upping the stakes. It starts off as a missing person/murder mystery and gradually builds up to two giant Rodan destroying Fukuoka. It’s one of the scarier Showa monster movies.

The second egg that we don't see probably came from a nearby nest, not from the same nest, so each Rodan has different parents. Birds often nest in communal colonies, so it's not unreasonable kaiju pterosaurs might as well.

This is one of the rare instances where changes made in the American edit actually fixes things. Both Rodans emerging and attacking the city at the same time is far superior to the second Rodan just popping up randomly at the very end of the attack.

Toho apparently only cares about not doing anything to encourage Japs to reverse-import physical copies of their movies. That’s why the Criterion Showa box set used noticeably inferior film prints compared to what Toho is using for their own 4K scans. Both Godzilla 1954 and King Kong vs Godzilla got official 4K broadcasts and theatrical rereleases from Toho shortly after Criterion released their box set.

>Toho apparently only cares about not doing anything to encourage Japs to reverse-import physical copies of their movies.
What I don't get about this is... Isn't the best strategy to just release really awesome copies of their movies in Japan, so that way they have no reason to import anything and Americans can get their own awesome versions? Exactly how far are their heads up their own asses?

I think it’s because they want to upcharge Japs on the domestic releases by selling them as a box set, or by doing exclusive broadcasts. It’s the same artificial scarcity Disney used to do in the USA by doing limited physical releases of their movies before they put everything on streaming. Toho knows the Japanese market will pay more to see their old movies than the overseas market, so they don’t release the best versions of their movies overseas until they’ve been available in Japan for years. I think Toho is also trying to get the distribution rights back to their movies through their USA branch in California. I’m not sure if Sony still has the rights to most of the Heisei and Millennium series, but Kraken had Godzilla 1984, and Godzilla vs Biollante was in legal limbo between Sony and Miramax iirc.

Some of the movies in that Criterion collection have imperfections at the bottom of the screen where at the bottom you see the top of the next frame. It's noticeable right before the scene changes. The DVD versions didn't have that and 4K also seem to be the definitive versions. King Kong vs. Godzilla on 4K removes that piss filter.

Very noticeable in this comparison, although the Criterion has mostly more correct colors.

Just got the Criterion Showa set recently as a birthday gift. Are the prints inferior or are the Japanese restoring the original prints they have? The early Godzilla films were shot on incredibly delicate filmstock that was highly susceptible to dust and other detritus that could damage it.
The only problem I have with the set is the set doesn't include the Japanese version of King King vs Godzilla.

The Criterion releases aren’t bad, but Toho is doing their own 4K scans with their masters that will be be better than the Criterion 1080p blu-rays. >The only problem I have with the set is the set doesn't include the Japanese version of King King vs Godzilla.
It does. It’s on the last disc under “special features.” Criterion used a pieced-together version that used footage from the USA master with Japanese audio overlaid, because the only surviving Japanese master was thought to be severely damaged (by Ishiro Honda lol). Then Toho “discovered” another complete master of the Japanese cut in their archives that they used for their new 4K scan after Criterion had already done their restoration.

Thanks, I haven't gotten there yet, only on disc four or so. Please tell me there's a better story behind how the second Mothra larva died between movies, because I was severely disappointed with the non-explanation given. I wish the Mothra movies, Rodan, and Varan (and whatever else) would get a decent release.

The second Mothra just dies. It could've been worded better or maybe the Shobijin just didn't elaborate but I thought it could've meant that since the other wasn't necessary as both were reincarnations of the same Mothra the spare just went back into the earth or something.
That's lame as frick. One larva could have died in battle against Godzilla, giving the audience a reason to cheer for the other one to defeat Godzilla in 'Godzilla vs Mothra'; and another argument Mothra could have used with the feuding Godzilla and Rodan in the next movie, i.e. 'I forgave him [Godzilla], why can't you?'
Alternatively, the second larva could have died to Ghidorah, showing Godzilla and Rodan what a threat Ghidorah was and their need to team up to defeat him. So much wasted story potential.

Depends on the Toho lore you follow. Remember Mothra had a twin brother Battra who she has a strong love/hate relationship with. He is implied to be the second caterpillar.

Showa is a completely different continuity than Heisei, and there isn't a Battra in Showa. Or anywhere else, even Mothra's trilogy.
That always struck me as odd, you'd figure instead of TWO ghidorah's they'd just have one of her opponents be a moth.

Ghidorah's popular and the second movie with a new monster did the worst of the bunch.
Still can't believe the cannonically strongest mothra, hell one of the strongest monsters in the entire expanded toho universe, is the ONE GUY Mothra of them all. Turns into an immortal glowing god at the end and everything, and that was AFTER being an invincible armored tank that can rip out your fricking soul

Man, I know where you are coming from and I hate to disagree with you, but it's more complicated than that. Toho really doesn't have a problem matching different movies from different eras together and calling them sequels. So, while you're not wrong, you really can't count Battra out like that.
He's Mothra's twin brother born from the same egg, it was heavily implied that he was maybe, perhaps the second caterpillar in that movie: but, honestly, with Toho you can never be sure.
Hence why I hate to disagree with you.

I like to imagine that the Larva that bit Godzilla's tail (that was then thrashed about and received several nasty blows from Godzilla's tail after it let go) was so badly injured it died shortly after getting home, but that's obviously just a head canon and not official.

Healthy young Mothra goes to Godzilla, gets pumped with massive shot of atomic breath, doesn’t feel good and changes - DEAD. Many such cases!
These movies leave a lot to the imagination lore-wise. And the new movies, unless they give us too much explanation in the future are kind of similar which I appreciate giving people room for interpretation, what they do in private, how their lives look like, what they think, what are their likes and dislikes.
The Showa version was like that. For example what happened to the Infant Island after Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster? I'm assuming it's still there and Mothra just expanded her business so now she's guarding the whole planet.
Haha, I loved that bit too. Especially when Mothra comes up to them and is like help me save the world and their both like frick off c**t we ain't doing that, but then after when she's like fine I'll do it myself; they both follow her for some reason and when they see Ghidora kicking her ass they both get pissed off and jump in to save her. It's so odd that they didn't give a damn about what she was doing or what she wanted, but then some foreigner starts messing with her and they immediately jump in to kick his ass.
It's surreal, but it's great.

Sometimes that works, but with a lot of Godzilla it doesn't, especially Heisei. Heisei is shockingly tightly knit as far as progression of events goes, things from the previous movie directly influence what happens next, several of the monsters are even born of previous ones like Space Godzilla, and Godzilla's powers and state are changed every other movie. Showa sometimes plays fast and loose, sometimes its like "Monster Zero is literally a direct sequel to Ghidorah the Three Headed Monster and if you haven't seen that you are going to be hella confused", but Heisei is a straight line from 84 to Destroyah.

Every Millennium Film is "None of the movies except the first one are canon", but Showa relies on it a lot for explaining things like what Godzilla's doing on Letchi in Ebriah and why he has a beef with Mothra in that movie. Likewise the people who control Gigan are consistent in both Gigan and Megalon and if you didn't know that you'd probably wonder why the frick atlantis has a bunch of aliens on speed dial.

It's really not that difficult to understand what's going on, even heisei isn't so intricately woven that you can't just start in the middle and enjoy them. Godzilla, and kaiju in general, always worked best for me as an episodic genre. There are only a handful of movies that I think some background is actually necessary, the Kiryu movies off the top of my head. All the others are completely enjoyable on their own.

Could be worse. You could get electricuted, nearly drown, or sufficate.
I honestly think Mothra made them feel bad. Like Godzilla and Rodan were a couple of macho guys happily beating the shit out of each other, but then refused to be of any help against Ghidorah. When Mothra went off to fight Ghidorah alone, they probably realized "Wow, we're pieces of shit. That little kid is going off to face insurmountable odds on her own, and we're just sitting here being useless." She guilt-tripped them, essentially.
They were just inspired by her bravery. They were like "Why would we help some lame worm save the world or anything?" Then they see her squaring up to fight him and they're all "Well shit we'd look like total pussies if we didn't join in now, that moth would look like she had bigger balls than either of us."
Godzilla never backed down from a fight and Rodan still had a LOT of teen angst to get through.
I love that there's a near 50 year tradition in Godzilla movies that is literally just >The first time a Godzilla meets a Mechagodzilla, he WILL be fricked up.
This was his meeting in Mechagodzilla 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dafz_dW2bY sorry for the music it's the only full one I could find
It's just that little thing that makes me think they actually payed attention to Godzilla movies or just accidentally kept the streak going.
I was totally on board with this movie, especially when the Alex Jones-like figure turned out to be a good guy and to have been right all along .
But the design and animation of Mecha Godzilla was a disappointment. Original Mecha Godzilla felt like a real war machine, a walking battleship. It used missiles, electric shocks... stuff you saw the EDF use against kaiju.
GvK Mecha Godzilla felt like something out of the transformer movie, pure CGI fest.
And Godzilla digging a hole through the entire earth surface with a single breath and Kong climbing all the way up from the centre of the earth really took me out of the movie.
What's funny is, the creators actually said that they wanted to be not like Bay in terms of design but go full geewun. Honestly, they might as well should've gone to Bay, we may have gotten more explosions, but the choreography would've been kino, at least.

Terror of Mechagodzilla
Made a Kaiju Cut of Godzilla, KotM, and GvK where it's only the fight scenes and the smallest amount of plot to connect the film's. An hour fourth minutes total.
Infuriated they didn't get McCreary back for GvK. Junkie XL's score was very bland, you know McCreary would have pulled up King Kong vs Godzilla and MechaGodzilla themes for the movie.
Dougherty was part of the story group, he was like the main guy of the Monserverse. And that producer whoever he was, he sometimes does inerviews about things they want to do in the future.
Don't remind me. People actually expected to hear some of the classic Ifukube music. Another thing that KotM knew how to do but it wasn't a Toho-centric movie while GVK at times felt like it was anti-Godzilla. If not the 1962 KKvG theme I want to at least hear new version of Sacred Springs. Could maybe fit the scene of Mothra and Godzilla finding each other because it Godzilla vs. Mothra already used it in a scene of Mothra emerging from the cocoon. Anything. Or how about the theme from the Kiryu saga? Maybe the best piece of non-Ifukube Godzilla music.
Hell, even the proper Godzilla theme that was central to KOTM. You only hear little bits of it. And after McCreary gave it a modern spin with the kaiju chanting
It's a vairly faithful version but even though Ifukube's music, although classical and therefore derived from European classics, was obviously non-Western they had to make it even more Japanese by adding the taiko drums and chanting (that in the main theme just say "Godzilla! Mothra! Sore sore sore" and on one of the later tracks it's "fight for us" but I'm not sure which one). And it kind of works.
>And after McCreary gave it a modern spin with the kaiju chanting
Trivia for you: that chant in King Ghidorah's theme is the Heart Sutra from Buddhism, which is also called the Zero Sutra. I thought that shit was fricking genius.
The beginning part of the music when Kong and Godzilla are about to fight in Hong Kong is the only memorable part and it's a shame that the rest of that song is bland and bad
At least now the official working title is "Godzilla-Kong movie" instead of Godzilla vs. Kong 2 so they're going to be buddies. Hopefully Godzilla will be shown in a more favorable light again. I have a few things I want from it but if it's really good and finishes the story I'd be fine if it was the last movie in the series.
It probably won't be though. Both Legendary and Toho have really ambitious plans. And Godzilla is popular and all but maybe not as much?
>Both Legendary and Toho have really ambitious plans. And Godzilla is popular and all but maybe not as much?
Kids love the Monsterverse movies since the Star Wars, Marvel, and Jurassic franchises are all going to shit now.
>Star Wars
Kids don’t care about it anymore. The only people watching it are manchildren and womanchildren who can’t let the franchise go. >Marvel
Obviously super popular, but lots of people checked out after Endgame. Spider-Man is carrying the franchise now. >Jurassic
Fallen Kingdom was terrible. People only saw Dominion to see how it ends (although I’m sure they’ll try to reboot it again 10-15 years from now).
Godzilla looks so cool. I unironically wish Legendary would try to pull some clothing shit where Godzilla Gear would be a thing. You could wear clothes styalized to be like your favorite monster, but it wouldn't look too super gay hopefully. Like for Ghidorah you could have his head in a style something like
but in gold yellow on black in on the chest, and two even simpler ones on the sleeves. It'd be super b***hing if they were long sleeved too, like a gold stripe going down the arm ending at the cuff where it'd be the stylized head. The back could be like that one Cyrillic letter that looks like an X but with a line in the middle of it connecting all of the heads. There's a market here, I'm telling you.
Godzilla would have a lot of female admirers if he existed. And I guess if he was human-sized.

I wish that there were just human sized godzillas going around that would just do regular human things with us. I'm a scaliegay though so, like whatever.
We're two years ahead from the movie. But I'm sure we're gonna have our general back. Apparently Godzilla will be back in 2023 too but I don't know if they mean the second season of Singular Point or that new live action movie.
It's very likely. I think he's definitely on the shortlist.
Supposedly it's a live action film and part of Toho's "World of Godzilla" cinematic universe.
Which people still speculate what it is but if it's a series that's connected to each other then I can understand if that new movie that takes places in the 40s is a remake of Gojira if they're actually going to develop him in the sequels.
If they ever did a longer ongoing scory. If not in a series then maybe in the comics there's a cool thing they could do with her. Aliens and mutants trying to take over the world, Earth's monsters protecting it, humans trying to make everyone submit to their rule and she's just on her own in a dark, magical forrest protecting it. I really hope she's more than just a villain.
I’d like to see Legendary’s take on Biollante. Like the similar premise being a mutant plant that’s gene spliced with Godzilla’s dna and the soul human. Maybe a former Monarch researcher finds a crazy kinda flower with great medicinal potential but movie shenanigans happen and it’s made into Biollante
This movie also had the best Goji suit, not only did it look cool but they also gave it a moving tongue with the animatronics, which adds a ton of life to it
Biollante was a pretty amazing feat of suit work. Needed two people to work the main body, and another six I think on catwalks working the tentacles. The guy working the head was working blind too so trying to aim to shoot its acid spray was a nightmare, it just sprayed everywhere trying to aim at Godzilla. Then they found out the goop stained absolutely everything it touched green. That Goji suit as usual was close to blind too so I believe they battered each other pretty good trying to do the fight.
What movies should I watch if I want to get into Godzilla? I've already watched the original and the 2016 version, they were alright. Should I just go in release order?
If you don’t mind 70’s jank and goofiness, the Showa era is fun to watch through. If not watch Godzilla 1985 and go from there. The Heisei era films all connect with each other
Probably not. I did that and I had no problem with that but there are some things that need to be understood. The first series from 1954-1975 is my favorite but not every movie is friendly to newcomers. Let's say King Kong vs. Godzilla. At times it looks very cheap but it was made as a spoof. People can miss that and misunderstand the movie. There are like 30 other movies made as part of the same cycle that have no Godzilla in it and other movies made around the same time as KKvG have good effects so it was made to look cheap on purpose. On the other hand Mothra vs. Godzilla from 1964 is a wonderful fairy tale and despite dated effects is played straight. It depends if someone can take things like that.
Every other series from second onwards (1984 to present day) changes that, it's definitely more contemporary and I'd say better for those who aren't used to the kaiju style of the old generation.
Yes the classic movies have the most sovl. You’ll get more out of seeing the newer movies if you watch the older ones first. There are some movies like Rodan 1956 and Mothra 1961 that tie in with the Showa Godzilla series. You can look google Toho tokusatsu movies to find guides of all the spin-offs that connect to the Godzilla timeline. There are only maybe four or five of the Japanese Godzilla movies that are truly bad.
I'd say
All Monsters Attack (1969) - and I don't care that it was "rediscovered" the themes don't matter if the execution is bad
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973) - if I watched Godzilla movies because they're so bad they're good I'd like that one but I don't
Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla (1994) - the first one I ever watched and I always try to give it a chance, not the worst but it's also a mess and the final battle never ends
the anime trilogy (2017-18) - just frick off with this shit
And I guess Son of Godzilla though it has a ton of heart, a large chunks of it are simply grotesque especially for thos unfamiliar with the series.
Just want to point out that most of the Showa era Godzilla movies are available for free on Youtube at the moment along with a few of the other Toho monster movies like Rodan.
Why can't Toho Godzilla show this much character anymore? I have no choice but to gravitate towards Legendary at least they have nice worldbuilding and characterization. If rumors are true and Toho will be doing that too then I guess it's ok but they have to realize it was a dead end.
Shin Godzilla has probably ruined Toho for the foreseeable future. Everything they make will now be some kind of bad political commentary with cartoon science.
Yes. And in G'54 there's more to him than people think but it's still ambiguous. The one from 1984 on the other hand may be the least intelligent version of Godzilla to ever exist and it's the same one that gets a sentient upgrade by the end of the Heisei series.
I love that Kaneko insisted he have the ability to blink.
Like, he had this vision in his head of Godzilla just staring at something that shocked him and blinking like "What the frick did I just watch" and he made it a reality. God bless that man and his directing.
I'm not sure I remember anything like that. His Godzilla is of course pure evil and from interviews made even before GMK he seems to consider it the definitive quality of Godzilla, which tells me he doesn't get him at all but GMK is good for a one time experiment during a series that really needed some success.

>This scene more or less happens in KOTM only with Godzilla and Ghidorah swapped
I still can't believe they made a movie with Godzilla, Rodan, and Mothra, where they not only did not team up against Ghidorah, but Godzilla never even interacted with Rodan or Mothra. No, I don't count Mothra climbing up on Godzilla's unconscious body, or Godzilla flashing Rodan a brief angry glance, as interaction.
Thei relationships between the monsters were mostly implied rather than shown but Godzilla and Mothra shared a conversation with each other. Then they met on a battlefield and sadly didn't get to properly reunite. But now what they're all introduced and Rodan survived the movie we can see them interacting more in the future.
Listening to the entire soundtrack collection again. This series is really blessed with some of the best music in the business even taking into account how many movies there are.
He drained the electricity grid of the city. He seems to have those sort of powers to steal energy. He tries to take the souped up atomic power Godzilla was on after the nuke too but is distracted first giving Godzilla a chance to go Burning.
He seems to be some kind of energetic vampire. Without that he probably would've lost to Godzilla right there. Someone pointed out that he grows his head back while he's on a volcano so perhaps he used its thermal energy to do it.
Too bad the anime was so shit. At least it had JET JAGAAAAAAAA.
If it gets a 2nd season I look forward to Mecha Godzilla tearing shit up. Was cool they went the Kiryu route and had the original Godzillas skeleton be built into it.
I loved seeing Jet Jaguar take on Godzilla and I wish it had lasted a little longer. It didn't have to be some grand unending battle, but longer than 15 seconds would've been nice.
Too bad the anime was so shit. At least it had JET JAGAAAAAAAA.

the frick was his problem?
He was 2/3 chad and 1/3 moronic
This seems accurate.
Reminder that the autismo head was the one they used for Mechagodzilla.
Reminder Mechagodzilla mogs every other villain
In Legendary Mecha G is not stronger than Ghidorah.
accurate
He just liked fricking up shit
Raging autism caused him to ape out everytime he saw zilla
*autistic screeching*
Wish we'd gotten this in Godzilla vs Kong, would've made a lot more sense.
He landed on a planet and there were giant ass laser lizards and super moths.
Other ghidorahs just get to frick up unadvanced civilizations but no, he had to land on the one rock that had a nuclear monster lizard.
That's my favorite thing about the vs movies. Earth has a few friendly, guardian monsters to defend earth like Mothra and King Caesar, but it's Godzilla our mistake that usually defeats invaders from space.
Toho Godzillas that went good had greatness thrust upon them. The American one is good too but he's a natural creature.
Ghidorah is just pure evil as usual. He's just a vile piece of shit like 90% of his incarnations.
Now Rodan, what the frick was his problem?
maybe he didnt know he was hurted them, its happening behind him 🙁
The movie weirdly implied something with him and Mothra that I don't get. I wouldn't even have noticed if they hadn't had the main characters gushing about Godzilla and Mothra and using camera angles to make it look all cutesy and shit.
I mean apparently they fought together in the past, they did on the picture.
'Murica, is your answer.
>oh man god(zillaaaaaaalol) fricks that moth even though he's done nothing but try to kill it in the Japanese movies
>rodan? Godzilla's best friend? yeah he's a real frickwad here.
? Godzilla's best friend? yeah he's a real frickwad here
Anguirus wasn't in this movie.
They killed him for production photos.
There was a skeleton they didn't say was NOT Anuguirus
I mean I'd probably be a very lazy kaiju.
>be me
>be big fricking pteradon sleeping in volcano bath for a few thousand years
>hear some new alpha kaiju
>whatever, decide to dip
>humans? tf are they doing on top of my volcano
>humans autistically chucking missiles at me in tiny metal birds
>proceed to retaliate
>humans whine about me curbstomping them
Rodan is and will always be, a jerk.
>bonked on the noggin
poor fella
>mogs literally every avengers/justice league shit before it was even a thing
Yeah I'm thinking based
there's no cure for being a c**t
Rodan was essentially just Gigan in this movie.
Gigan is a cyborg from space tho
Ghidorah is from space too and at one point also a cyborg
Rodan is pissed cuz he always has to job and he's sick of it. He just wants to be the hero for one day but he knows it'll never happen
la criatura buitre
>Do you feel in charge?
>Look at me Hector
>Yakuza_cutscene.webm
He doesn't have a problem, amigo.
>Now Rodan, what the frick was his problem?
He was originally an antagonist that was meant to symbolize the growing Soviet threat.
He's a jackass
He is Mexican
No b***hes. I mean chicas.
He helped Godzilla and Mothra fight GHidorah in the past. I guess now he just doesn't know what to do with himself. He needs action.
He's the kaiju equivalent of being a shitposter
RODAN DID NOTHING WRONG

Yeah, I said it, the whole 'Mutated furbies who gets shitstomped and comes back as a robot' is worse even than the four legged Mothra one, at least that one actually killed something.
its the gmk version cuz it has varans facial fins
Grand King Ghidorah has those fins too.

You could give it a real Lovecraft vibe.

They did that in the Netflix movies. The build up was good, but it didn't live up to the hype.
Forgot i even saw this.
Went to Godzilla - The Ride the other week. that shit was completely fricking insane.
Oh shit, what happens on it?
your hanging in these seats suspended infront of a LOUD AS SHIT imax.
I found it. holy shit that's actually fricking insane
full video of it? mind posting?
Theres this whole 5 minutes in the beginning before you go in where some larp JSDF soldier comes in to yell at you like your Private Pile telling you whats going on. which is pretty cringe but lulzy. First time it was a chick who was cute as frick, second go on it and it was some homosexual dude. bit disappointing. but yeah, second time I was sat on the end of a set of chairs so could see people feet dangling around 15 feet above. Kept expecting to see some niplet get yeeted out of his seat for a 50ft header off the floor all the way through.
Also there's this mist/spray that they pump into your face when Godzilla roars. a bit fricking rude I thought.
>hates Godzilla so much his skull takes over a giant robot just for one more attempt to kill him
BAM BAM BIDI BID BAM BAM
This is canon, this happened.
And Gigan loved fricking shit up. That's why he's the best. Dude was pure bastard.
He literally held Jet Jaguar hostage by holding his blade to his throat and everything, he wasn't just a dumb monster he actively knew the concept of taking a hostage to threaten.
That was probably part of his ninja training.
Probably why he was my favorite as a kid, just a crazy butthole with a saw
>the dance
I fricking love the Godzilla franchise so much.
That volcano really messed him up.
The meganulon felt right out of a 50's horror movie and could've carried the whole film by themselves, learning they're literally at the bottom of the food chain for this monster was a pretty surprising twist for the time.
I'll never ever forget the meganulon reveal.
>It's never implied the female Rodan got the same atomic bomb mutation, nobody even floats the idea since she didn't emerge from the same place the male did that we know of
>So it's entirely possible she's just another fully grown awakened monster like Godzilla or Anguirus or like Minya she was on monster island before being attracted to the prospect of a mate after growing up
>Either way as far as we know there's nothing indicating she got the advanced ageing
>The mate she chooses is less than a month old
Oh japan!
>I’ve been waiting CENTURIES to get laid
>I’m gonna rock his world so hard he’ll rather kill himself than live in a world where he can’t hit it
The second egg that we don't see probably came from a nearby nest, not from the same nest, so each Rodan has different parents. Birds often nest in communal colonies, so it's not unreasonable kaiju pterosaurs might as well.
This is one of the rare instances where changes made in the American edit actually fixes things. Both Rodans emerging and attacking the city at the same time is far superior to the second Rodan just popping up randomly at the very end of the attack.
>tfw Shiterion still hasn’t released Rodan on blu-ray
I guess they’re too busy releasing arthouse flicks about eating poopoo.
I know that Toho probably doesn't give a shit, but aren't there issues with finding a half-decent print of the US cut?
Probably, but not every movie in their Godzilla box set came with the US cut.
That's what I meant by Toho not giving a shit.
Janus showed a couple of Heisei movies like last year so maybe a new Criterion release is coming.
Some of the movies in that Criterion collection have imperfections at the bottom of the screen where at the bottom you see the top of the next frame. It's noticeable right before the scene changes. The DVD versions didn't have that and 4K also seem to be the definitive versions. King Kong vs. Godzilla on 4K removes that piss filter.
>piss filter
Very noticeable in this comparison, although the Criterion has mostly more correct colors.
Just got the Criterion Showa set recently as a birthday gift. Are the prints inferior or are the Japanese restoring the original prints they have? The early Godzilla films were shot on incredibly delicate filmstock that was highly susceptible to dust and other detritus that could damage it.
The only problem I have with the set is the set doesn't include the Japanese version of King King vs Godzilla.
I haven't noticed this. Which movies does it affect the most?
I think those weird defects start with Mothra vs. Godzilla and end around Son of Godzilla.
>Are the prints inferior or are the Japanese restoring the original prints they have?
>It does. It’s on the last disc under “special features.”
Thanks, I haven't gotten there yet, only on disc four or so. Please tell me there's a better story behind how the second Mothra larva died between movies, because I was severely disappointed with the non-explanation given. I wish the Mothra movies, Rodan, and Varan (and whatever else) would get a decent release.
there's no explanation, it's just dead
That's lame as frick. One larva could have died in battle against Godzilla, giving the audience a reason to cheer for the other one to defeat Godzilla in 'Godzilla vs Mothra'; and another argument Mothra could have used with the feuding Godzilla and Rodan in the next movie, i.e. 'I forgave him [Godzilla], why can't you?'
Alternatively, the second larva could have died to Ghidorah, showing Godzilla and Rodan what a threat Ghidorah was and their need to team up to defeat him. So much wasted story potential.
The second Mothra just dies. It could've been worded better or maybe the Shobijin just didn't elaborate but I thought it could've meant that since the other wasn't necessary as both were reincarnations of the same Mothra the spare just went back into the earth or something.
>the second Mothra just dies
Depends on the Toho lore you follow. Remember Mothra had a twin brother Battra who she has a strong love/hate relationship with. He is implied to be the second caterpillar.
Showa is a completely different continuity than Heisei, and there isn't a Battra in Showa. Or anywhere else, even Mothra's trilogy.
That always struck me as odd, you'd figure instead of TWO ghidorah's they'd just have one of her opponents be a moth.
Leo might actually be the strongest thanks to the bullshit soulpunch and time travel, even Final Wars Godzilla is vulnerable to having his soul ripped out.
>Showa is a completely different continuity than Heisei
Man, I know where you are coming from and I hate to disagree with you, but it's more complicated than that. Toho really doesn't have a problem matching different movies from different eras together and calling them sequels. So, while you're not wrong, you really can't count Battra out like that.
He's Mothra's twin brother born from the same egg, it was heavily implied that he was maybe, perhaps the second caterpillar in that movie: but, honestly, with Toho you can never be sure.
Hence why I hate to disagree with you.
That... no, anon. No, he is not. Mothra vs. Godzilla/Ghidrah the Three-Headed Monster and Godzilla vs. Mothra are in two completely different continuities. They have literally nothing to do with each other.
>Ghidorah shoots Godzilla in the dick with his gravity beams
What an butthole
That and Godzilla going full boxer on Ghidorah complete with footwork (props to the suit actor) are my favorite bits of that movie.
Yeah, that
>(props to the suit actor)
>the many Goji suits had to have a little valve on the bottom they could use to drain the the build up of the actor's sweat, several times a day in shooting
Imagine the smell
>Caring about continuity
I just treat every film like its own little self contained universe unless it directly mentions the events of another film.
Mmmm, sushi and karoshi.
The two Kiryu movies are sequels to the original Godzilla movie as well as Mothra and a few other Showa movies like War of the Gargantuas and Space Ameoba iirc.
>The two Kiryu movies are sequels to the original Godzilla movie as well
All of the millenium movies are sequels to the original, they just reboot every time.
Right on the dick
It wasn't his day. In the end he got new friends and purpose in life on the other he was hit in the dick twice so I don't know if it was worth it.

I love that there's a near 50 year tradition in Godzilla movies that is literally just
>The first time a Godzilla meets a Mechagodzilla, he WILL be fricked up.
This was his meeting in Mechagodzilla 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4dafz_dW2bY sorry for the music it's the only full one I could find
It's just that little thing that makes me think they actually payed attention to Godzilla movies or just accidentally kept the streak going.
But it's also the only time Godzilla won against Mechagodzilla 1v1.
He beat him 1V1 in Terror of Mechagodzilla.
That was 1v2, titanosaurus was helping mechagodzilla
So that's even better except humans helped him beat both of them.
It's like 5 9/11s all at once.
>China has a ton of sinkholes.
>Hong Kong likely picked as Apex HQ due to it being close to a Hollow Earth entrance.
What's funny is, the creators actually said that they wanted to be not like Bay in terms of design but go full geewun. Honestly, they might as well should've gone to Bay, we may have gotten more explosions, but the choreography would've been kino, at least.
look how they EMASCULATED my guy right after declaring him KING of the Monsters at the end of the last movie
This design is literally the aborted child of every Michael Bay and Zack Snyder movies
Literal moron take.
> moron take.
So he’s right
LET ME FINISH GODZILLA, I LET YOU TALK. YOU ALWAYS DO THIS
>ZEEEEEEEEULLA
Is it worth renting out a theater to see this on my birthday? Was gonna have some friends come.
No, it's a mediocre movie at best.
Godzilla vs Kong was better
Hell yeah, I'd go to that
I wonder if you could do a movie marathon with all three. I'd totally pay to join in on that if you're in AL.
As much as I wanted to like it, it really isn't that good of a movie
You'd have a better time with Godzilla vs. Kong
El Pterodáctilo Mexicano (Forma de Encabronado)
El Quetzalcoatl
Gimme a one or two sentence rundown on watching these movies in their original uncut form with aspect ratio intact and decent subtitles.

That's a huge b***h
Which of the classic Godzilla films are worth watching? I know that All Monsters Attack is the one that’s hated.
Goji '54
King Kong VS Godzilla
Mothra VS Godzilla
Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster
Invasion of Astro Monster
Destroy All Monsters
Godzilla VS Gigan
Godzilla VS Megalon
Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla
Terror of Mechagodzilla
Japanese cinema is really awful. I don't want to quote all those shitty webms here. Those monster look cheap.
I want gamera vs godzilla
are they really making gvk2?
Made a Kaiju Cut of Godzilla, KotM, and GvK where it's only the fight scenes and the smallest amount of plot to connect the film's. An hour fourth minutes total.
Based. Keep us updated
Well deserved
k i n o
Infuriated they didn't get McCreary back for GvK. Junkie XL's score was very bland, you know McCreary would have pulled up King Kong vs Godzilla and MechaGodzilla themes for the movie.
Was anyone on KOTM's production team brought back for GvK?
Americans can't Tokusatsu, and that's just a fact
>PUDIPUDIPUDIPUDIPUDIPUDI
Daily reminder KONG won
Won what? Keys to his new house?
At least now the official working title is "Godzilla-Kong movie" instead of Godzilla vs. Kong 2 so they're going to be buddies. Hopefully Godzilla will be shown in a more favorable light again. I have a few things I want from it but if it's really good and finishes the story I'd be fine if it was the last movie in the series.
It probably won't be though. Both Legendary and Toho have really ambitious plans. And Godzilla is popular and all but maybe not as much?
I think the Legendary films are shit objectively, but I'll still CONSOOOOM them because they've got high budget Godzilla fights. Hope they make more.
>Both Legendary and Toho have really ambitious plans. And Godzilla is popular and all but maybe not as much?
Kids love the Monsterverse movies since the Star Wars, Marvel, and Jurassic franchises are all going to shit now.
> Star Wars, Marvel, and Jurassic franchises
They make billions. The last time a monsterverse movie made half than that was 2017.
kids like the movies, but basedwars adults don't.
There's a market here, I'm telling you.
>that pic
YOU JUST KNOW
Godzilla would have a lot of female admirers if he existed. And I guess if he was human-sized.
I wish that there were just human sized godzillas going around that would just do regular human things with us. I'm a scaliegay though so, like whatever.
All abooooard
We're two years ahead from the movie. But I'm sure we're gonna have our general back. Apparently Godzilla will be back in 2023 too but I don't know if they mean the second season of Singular Point or that new live action movie.
Supposedly it's a live action film and part of Toho's "World of Godzilla" cinematic universe.
I want to see Legendary do Gigan no matter how unlikely it is. He was my dude when I was a kid.
Ninja Gigan
It's very likely. I think he's definitely on the shortlist.
Which people still speculate what it is but if it's a series that's connected to each other then I can understand if that new movie that takes places in the 40s is a remake of Gojira if they're actually going to develop him in the sequels.
Biollante please
Hi Bidi I'm Dad
DAD, please be nice to my gf Bidi.
That's a female? Because they look like they can and will suck a dick.
Gay month is over, anon. We're back to posting big bodacious babes.
I'm glad almost every major city in the USA that I dislike is destroyed in these films. Yet the ones I do enjoy are perfectly safe.
they should destroy texas next.
have giant worms from godzilla the series attack ranches
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LEAVE MY STATE ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DESTROY NEW YORK DESTROY NEW YORK DESTROY NEW YORK!!!!!!
god burning Godzilla would have torched kong and skull fricked his empty eye sockets.
Yeah no. Not losing that thread. Feels like a proper thread for once. Certain people who aren't welcome aren't in it.
Seeing him hurt is horrible but him overcoming it makes it even more rewarding.
I wish I was godzilla here. No homo.
There's one shot where one head appears to be briefly licking Godzilla right before he takes him to the sky or it just looks that one from the angle.
I hope next time Godzilla takes center tage leaving Kong with next to nothing. It's only fair.
>OH N-
Final Wars was such a shit show, but it had one of the best Ghidorahs.
I prefer Godzilla to be an animalistic monster like in Shin, 1985 and 1954. And GMK
He wasn't animalistic in GMK, he was straight up a villain
Yes. And in G'54 there's more to him than people think but it's still ambiguous. The one from 1984 on the other hand may be the least intelligent version of Godzilla to ever exist and it's the same one that gets a sentient upgrade by the end of the Heisei series.
Frick you I know what I like
I love that Kaneko insisted he have the ability to blink.
>I'm not sure I remember anything like that.
Go to 1:51
That look of "What the frick" is just perfect.
>This scene more or less happens in KOTM only with Godzilla and Ghidorah swapped
My God, Even evil Godzilla is cute.
>look up ghidorah's weight
>100,000 tons
>Godzilla was throwing him across entire cities
It was nice to see them working together again. Even if they didn't share a frame.
What is this from? Looks based
Just some random Ultraman stage show.
This should've been the Godzilla v Kong MechZilla, instead of the Bay abortion we got
Frick
They should make Baragon into Kong's dog
That's not very dignified. Just because he's a burrower.
I still follow this guy's account but I think he stopped updating this chart.
This. Absolutely dumb as frick that they never interacted with each other. Is it the shitty direction? Or are they this stupid?
>OG Mothra was a fricking UNIT
>BIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDIDI
>BAM BAM
This fight was cheap and sucked
>Miyazaki rips off a significantly better and more creative media to make another shitty boss fight
Bidi bidi bidi?
Listening to the entire soundtrack collection again. This series is really blessed with some of the best music in the business even taking into account how many movies there are.
>12 years later
>still the best animated dragon out there
PAIN
AGONY
How does biting a sub station give it the power of 10 suns
He drained the electricity grid of the city. He seems to have those sort of powers to steal energy. He tries to take the souped up atomic power Godzilla was on after the nuke too but is distracted first giving Godzilla a chance to go Burning.
He seems to be some kind of energetic vampire. Without that he probably would've lost to Godzilla right there. Someone pointed out that he grows his head back while he's on a volcano so perhaps he used its thermal energy to do it.
I really hope they somehow do something more with Ghidoras skull regrowing into a Ghidora again, but getting mechanized into Mecha King Ghidora.
Also wheres my homie Gigan?
Honestly just have Gigan be the biological version of Mechagodzilla using MUTO and Ghidorah dna.
BIDIBIDIBIDIBI
Godzilla has some nice footwork.
>Yeah, Rodan, you keep pulling at that tail.
>I'll just stand over here with the end that has all the teeth and firepower.
>No big.
Fight smart anon.
