Impossible for the sheer fact that it will do better in China alone. The Chinese outright rejected The Marvels giving it a 6.9 audience score, equivalent to a C- CinemaScore (even The Little Mermaid got a 7.4 from Chinese audiences and they hated that movie too)

The first one sucked but I may actually go watch this one just to spite that narrative. I know what you mean, but it seems like that element is waning significantly as seen with all these marvel flops. Sure it doesn't help that the movies have gotten worse but really even most of the successful ones were carried purely the charisma of the actors. Might also be that the whole thing isn't novel anymore.
Anyway the first one did well, how much of that was due to being part of a DC movie universe series? It was not connected much to anything else, and even retconned certain things from Aquaman's previous appearance iirc. And the DC series unlike the Marvel one was a giant mess filled with poor box office performance from the start, it managed to rake in cash anyway.
The success of the first one I would largely attribute to the story being a classic reluctant hero who is also an exiled king story, that one never gets old. That, and women love Momoa, Amber was hot, Patrick was great and Manta was cool as frick.
The thing about capeshit tumbling down in popularity is that 9 out of the last 10 capeshit movies had dogshit stories with dogshit characters nobody took a liking to. It certainly isn't a novel genre anymore, but the main problem imo is just the really bad writing.
