One episode had a famous chef challenge the Japanese iron chef because they had ideological differences about what trad Japanese food should be. When they asked him to choose the competitor he immediately pointed at iron chef Japan. It was badass

I remember the first time i stumbled across this show when it was running on Saturday at like midnight or 1am and was subtitled. Describing it to people the next day they thought I was making it up.

It brings back memories to think of it. I was in high school when it was still running and I got a couple of my friends hooked.

Man, he was only 67 that sucks. Can't believe Michiba and Sakai are still going. And how Kobe died was just so sad. Amazing how connected I felt to that show. Can't think of another one that really made me feel like I knew the people in it and it's one of the big reasons I'd LOVE to visit Japan, or if I had to move thats the place I'd want to live.

There's a lot of free stuff on YouTube, sometimes legally like Iron Chef but with old TV shows and movies people just straight up upload them illegally and YouTube doesn't care. It all depends on the movie, I always check there because worst case scenario I wasted a couple seconds and have to look for it somewhere else.

Pluto is great for old shows, I watched Hollywood Squares because I used to watch that on TV all the time and I realized "Wait a minute, this actually isn't very good." and it had an obnoxious amount of commercials, which I'm sure is the show's fault because I watched movies on Pluto that didn't have nearly as many commercial breaks. But I'm sure there are some other old shows on Pluto that are good, besides Iron Chef of course.

Unfortunately, no current streaming service contains all 9 seasons of Iron Chef Japan. Iron Chef Japan Specials (2000–2002) and Iron Chef Japan Revival series (2012–2013) continue to remain undistributed outside Japan. Also, after acquiring the rights to dubbed episodes of Iron Chef Japan, FilmRise has started uploading free Iron Chef episodes onto YouTube but without the iconic Iron Chef theme song composed by Hans Zimmer because licensing music from famous composers is expensive.

Incidentally, the Hans Zimmer song wasn't actually made for the show. It was the theme from the movie Backdraft.

Also, I'm not sure if it was originally released this way in America, but the episodes are completely out of order. For example, the first two episodes are from 1998, the sixth season of Iron Chef.

I never saw it, but I heard of it because of this overlooked gem, which lets you visit the worlds of many classic films such as Backdraft and Waterworld for some reason.

Show Me Your Firetruck is the name of the song and I believe it's in the credits somewhere sometimes which is how I figured out the origins since it stuck out.

The American one is what helped me find the Jap version which is one of the best shows ever made. Always liked the crazy shit Morimoto would come up with, couldn't stand Flay and all those morons.

Was just watching through the old series on Amazon (think on FreeVee with all the ads which wasn't horrible but man I hate ads), and actually teared up when the episodes came on that signaled the end of that show. I used to think they should bring it back exactly like the old japanese one, but the world doesn't deserve such awesomeness, and on top of that most of the world wouldn't get it anyway.

The English dub voices cracked me up though. Literally the perfect show. That old man judge in the first few seasons was so harsh, then the weird fortune teller old lady ... cmon its amazing!!

made an ass of himself in typical american fashion. I forget which it was, but he lost 1x then complained like a b***h, and the second time they had him he made an even bigger ass of himself by doing the same shit AND throwing a tray of shit around the set
