Hated in the nation looked like a prologue to a series. The aftermath of mass deaths is infinitely interesting than "cyberbullying bad!". I fricking wish they continued that.

    >no they can't make a new body for him cause we aren't here anymore
    >and even if they could, why would they?
So first they are implying you need an artificial body that is somewhat attuned to you or made for you or some shit, because otherwise why would you not being on earth anymore be problem. And then they are also implying that even if they could make that guy a new body there would be no benefit in it, even though about two scenes later the fricking amateurs realize what the fricking benefit would be? And then they just proceed to ignore the point they initially established. The whole situation just feels so incredibly forced, completely ruins it for me. I know I am being autistic about it but stuff like that annoys me to no end especially when it would be so easy to say, yep NASA realizes they need a new body for him but it will take forever, and then he just takes pity on him and lets him use his body. Fricking screen"writers".

So is the space episode supposed to be a crab in a bucket metaphor when he killed the wife or did he spare the wife and just throw paint around to make it look like he did?

The implication is that they’re both fricked in the head and disconnected from reality, just playing real world through their avatars like a videogame. You can see his partner is about to just sit down and chill at the end instead of getting revenge, they don’t actually care about what happens to anyone on Earth anymore.

I don't think he killed cliffs wife and kid, he did some painting trickery as you said with red paint to make cliff believe he had killed them, so he would know the same pain as he had suffered. Even if it was only for a brief moment he essentially experienced the feeling of loss until he realized he hadn't killed them after all, and it was only a lesson. This would also explain why cliff didn't instantly attack him when he came back to the space station afterwards. The way he pushed the chair out for him to sit had a way of saying " I could never kill them, but at least you know my pain now". Earlier on in the episode he also asked cliffs wife for some paint thinner, a kind that would thin out paint without it losing it's strength of color, explaining how he was able to paint so much stuff in the house red.

Why can't 2 experienced NASA astronauts on the most important space mission ever, everything they have trained for in their life, handle their emotions better?

To be fair, the only one who freaks the frick out and loses it is the one whose family was brutally murdered in front of his eyes

        Anonymous

Yeah and apparently noone on earth cares that one of their two astronauts on what seems to be a pretty high profile mission was just heavily traumatized and don't feel the need to do anything about it. Which is either the shittiest writing on the planet or means that everything is some kind of nonsensical simulation because shit just doesn't make sense.

      Anonymous

I mean if we accept the premise, seeing your wife and kids murdered in front of you would probably frick you up major time. The pressing question is why NASA, apparently with the means for instant communication with the craft and quite aware of the psychological needs of astronauts because why else have the robots, doesn't do jackshit afterwards. I mean they don even have him do a single session with a psychologists, which would still be well below the bare minimum of care you would expect.

      Anonymous

And the mission control? Security? Measures that should be rolled out as soon as something like this happens? I know its just tv series but even when contrasting with some other stupid episodes this one takes the cake. Its not even about suspending the disbelief, the crew, mission control, whole mission behaves more dumb then cast of jason x. They should put it in 2100 or something where those kind of flights would be more frequent and for whatever reasons (bad astronaut screning, like favorism or accepting people prone to mental illness because diversity) those two got in. With 1969 most inportant mission and actual no mission support it jist screams stupid. Thats how it looks when cheap writers dont do any research.

This so fricking much. That episode was terrible on the grounds alone that if you put any thought at all to what was (or more accurately "wasn't") going on in the background it just seemed completely idiotic.

        Anonymous

It's trash, yes, but you have to bear in mind that this is just another essaie on the theme of "a man living another's life". It's an old literary theme, of course.
The sci-fi setting is just window-dressing and everything can only serve the plot.

          Anonymous

          >The sci-fi setting is just window-dressing and everything can only serve the plot.
Problem is, if your window-dressing is so glaringly bad that it detracts from your plot, then you should have probably chosen a different dressing. Which wouldn't have been hard for a decent writer.

            Anonymous

yeah, sure. I still think you could have make it work in this setting, but there is clearly too much that has been taken away for the theme to work well.

    >3rd episode was plothole on plothole with aron paul playing aron paul.. again. The only positive was to witness mckulkin sibiling on the big screen.
    >4rd episode, I didnt saw itcoming and I dig werewolfs, beside it good media, but bad bm episode.
At this point the technology/society changes are just a backdrop to whatever writers came up with on this week, its npt even "fun with the neat concept", its more like "yeah this is the thing now, but its just a decoy and the real story is about standard drama shit." Its like 6/10 so its kinda good compared to other 2023 shit (and previous bm season) but shen compared to some ep from 1-3s it just nothingburgers.

Would've have been less boring if instead of the stupid borrowing bodies and moronic predictable "yeah lemme paint as thanks, and hit the son and on the wife" plot just make not-Jesse a hackerman who can unknowingly enter the robot body to psychologically torture the wife and son until they are fully alienated. Make it so the viewer never really knows which mind is in the body.

I can’t get over people completely glossing over how utter shit the first episode of the season is simply because the last two are worse.

Near the end the Michael Cera security guard reveals that the Joan we’ve been following is actually a dramatization too, but that breaks the logic of the episode to do so. If the original Joan was being recorded secretly for the show, then the Joan dramatization would be shown being secretly recorded too, not the original Joan. The Michael Cera security guard wouldn’t suddenly reach self-actualization and try to make a case for why Joan shouldn’t destroy the quantum computer because it would “kill” the people living within the CGI generated world, that wouldn’t make any sense because it’s impossible for that to be the justification used in the real life scenario. And in the end you’re not really supposed to consider this forced moral dilemma any further because everything works out for the characters in the end. It fricking stinks.
