Namor is a part of Marvel Comics history and technically he is the first Mutant to appear in the comics so he can serve in part to bring X-Men and all the Mutant characters into MCU.
I for one find the choice of making Namor and the blue Atlanteans some sort of meso-American culture a refreshing take on them. It makes them clearly distinct from Mamoa and Amber Turd's take. And fits pretty well with them being a warlike monarchy. Can't wait to see Akuma.
Honestly the trailer has me more excited than Avatar 2: Look We Are Riding Stuff Again.
I don't mind the change as well, but it annoys the frick out of me that they didn't try to either find an actor with a very distinct, haughty look or give the dude some of Namor's features, like the prominent v-line and Spock eyebrows. The facial hair is also shit, he looks like the average Paco selling tacos out of a van in California. Make him look regal, this is the dude that's supposed to make Sue Storm wet her panties every time he shows up and puffs out his chest.
He’s pretty significant predating captain America, just as old as Superman and Batman actually. I’m still surprised it took this long for him to at least appear in a movie
