They don't really know what to do with him. In the comics he's been around since before WWII as both hero and villain, but in the movies the only superhero in the 40s was Captain America, so Namor's timeline is all fricked.

Frankly this is a problem faces by most comic universes (i think invincible avoided it somewhat though) where society as a whole remains at a *current year technological level despite high tech advances elsewhere. The closest we've seen is the helicarriers in cap 2 having repulser lifts and the vulture adopting chituri tech. I find it completely unbelievable that after coming into contact with alien races, after the miniaturization of the arc reactor, alongside other advances such as pun particles, that society is effectively unchanged. Hell, the fact that the chituri invaded, proving there were extraterrestrial threats, and left a shit load of tech (which should easily be powered by arc reactors) means that energy weapons should be widespread in the us army. Say what you will about military resistance to change, but i find it unbelievable that the knowledge that there is such a disparity in offensive capability between the military and hostile aliens would not light a fire under their ass
They may as well not even bother doing that FF movie. I can understand introducing Namor first since the character existed for decades before FF, but Doom is inexorably linked to the FF and removing those ties doesn't make a fricking bit of sense
