Americans think having a black character act nice makes them a “magical Black” or “uncle remus”

It is stupid but Americans are like that.

I haven't seen this show. What the hell happened for her to get criticized as those?

        Anonymous

She got b***hy with Invincible for not being around for some minor thing, dinner or something (which was because he was off doing secret hero stuff). Shortly after, she got b***hy with Invincible, and claimed that she had known he was superheroing for a while and was angry that he wasn't honest with her, which A. puts her b***hiness the first time in a way worse light, and B. makes her seem like an entitled idiot who doesn't comprehend the well understood principle both in universe and out that superheroes protect their identities to protect the ones they care about, and she's just his girlfriend of a few months, not yet a life partner of any type.

Which would have made her just shitty. She became the worst character when at the end of the show he apologized to her for the secrecy, and she acknowledges no fault on her end, just basically says "about time."

She also intended to cheat on him at the party.

          The situation was far worse
They were at a college visit when a crazy villain attacked. Mark "ran away" and then the superhero Invincible came, got the crap beaten out of him but managed to hold the villain long enough for it to commit suicide. When Mark came back from "calling the police" Amber made a giant deal out of him running away and saying it's about time they stop dating. So a day later he admits to being the very same superhero that saved her live and got the crap beaten out of, and she admits to having known for weeks now and it doesn't change a thing.

This, this is what genuinely pisses me off when people say Amber is in the right. There is no justifying that in my eyes. She watched her boyfriend almost die to save her life, then proceeds to publicly shit all over him because he didn't tell her his family's huge secret weeks ago when they hadn't even dated a year.

            That's fricking psychotic

              Anonymous

Not only having dated only a few months, as we found out in season 2, they haven't even had sex yet! Someone she didn't even had the confidence to had sex with is someone she expects to tell her his most dangerous secret.

they were obssesed trying to give her a strong moment, so the idea was to show her winning an argument and chewing out a powerful man with out an ounce of fear, but it was executed poorly

she was vehemently hated. Even in the comics she wasn't as much of a raging c**t. It was when they wanted to push an agenda with her AND change her from the comics AND make her a progressive STONK WOMYN. most people hate that shit. add that to the fact she was a downright terrible person and girlfriend to mark regardless of what raceswap you paint her as and yeah they backstepped hard

Mark is a really nice guy he deserves better. If he was written to be in anyway a shittu guy or a cheater sure give him cumapance but you get an annoying character to shit on a dude who works hard and does his best and people are going to hate it. That's why everyone fricking hated snape.

    >blackwash character
    >said character wastes more than half of the show's screentime
The entire B-plot was a waste of time. His character conflict was resolved off-screen. He goes to solve Hector's conflict for him because the Ellis hates Hector's heroic voice. He never meets with the main cast.

It is funny when you go through the thought process of a modern day left wing writers room

    >dude, it’s the current year, we can’t have all these stale pale white voice actors
    >let’s cast black actress of the month, she’s popular!
    >hmmm, since voice acting is segregated now, we also have to make her character black too, awesome!
    >wait a minute… in the comic she doesn’t figure out he’s invincible? What the FRICK. She’s a black woman. She can’t be ignorant, that’s racist. nah let’s have her figure it out early on
    >hmmmm. But we still want the standard relationship drama…
    >lets just Frankenstein it together and have her be mad he didn’t tell her even though she knew he was saving lives
    >hehehe she can also tell him to “fly away flyboy”. Twitter is gonna love this. She’s so powerful. She even reads Maya Angelou and beats up white jocks. This is a bullseye fellas

They legit thought she was gonna be seen by the audience as in the right because in their minds she was in the right.

After the backlash I don’t think they ever really changed their minds. They just decided to alter her entire character for season 2 and have all the characters get collective amnesia over how she acted so nobody brings it up.

It’s pretty bizarre considering Marks best friends William and Eve told him to his face that Amber was in the right lol

Wonder how they will handle the breakup. Will it be Marks fault again in some bizarre way?

They were throwing darts at the wall with characters' names on it in order to decide who to blackwash. One landed on Amber's name.

it was the writers bragging about how they're le adults. Seriously, rewatch Season 1, literally every conversation with her is lecturing him on how he's being irresponsible/immature and doing it in terminology that 95% of teenagers cannot vocalize.

    >"I need to help my dad with work!"
    >"So make that choice"

It feels unbearably self-aggrandizing and you can tell it stems from an element of Kirkman being like "I'm 20 years older now, I was so dumb when I was young, LOL".

Also, holy shit, NO GIRL goes into in a relationship like this. I hope there aren't a generation of young men who think that some stronk independent girl is gonna waltz in, kick their bully in the balls, call them handsome and give him her number, and then go and read comic books with him while explaining how to go on a date. The writers were trying to improve on Amber being a non-personality in the comic, but in the process they've created a "perfect imaginary girlfriend" for a neutered Gen X 44 year old showrunner/comic book writer who wants to relive high school. The few girls like this who exist would never go for someone as meek as Mark.
