Nice
Frick yeah, Season 1 was great. Glad Fowler didn't die, he chews every scene he is in and I love it.
What is this? I saw it was nominated for something a couple days ago but have never heard of it before.
Netflix show based in Edo era Japan. It's really well animated and is a pretty entertaining story, I recommend it.
First episode is on youtube in the entirety
>This man sails up your coast and opens your country. What do?
Beat him in a game of baseball.
Would you wife Mizu or Akemi?
Wahoo
Mizu, the autism makes her easier to handle than Akemi
Femdom either way.
Mizu just wants someone to accept her for the autistic murderhobo she is, whereas Akemi wants to scheme her way into power and would try to manipulate you.
Tomboys > princesses
Netflix tries to get rid of any trace of the announcement. Seems like it was meant to be revealed later

can mizu pass as white though?
Probably not, most people don't turn her down until they see the eyes or her personality.
with makeup and fashion that was worn at the time she can probably go through a crowd and not get any looks unless someone really looks at her. she had a vision of what she'd look like if she were all white it was basically just her but blonde.
I don't get the social caste argument, Samurai was a legitimate career path if you were a farmer to make better of yourself and to defend your family/village.
The samurai thing is funny because the show really doesn't glorify/exotify it, it's the people around Mizu (Ringo, Taigen, Akemi) who do and they're all on some level naive. Also five seconds of google tells you that you don't need to be born into a samurai family to become one, it was just really difficult to do so, which also explains why Taigen lost his standing so easily.
It's just a really weird criticism all around. Not agreeing with everything else they said, but I at least understand the position, the samurai argument boils down to "I don't know the historical context but I'll accuse this show of not portraying it properly and making it exotic"
Also Mizu repeatedly says she's not a samurai and she doesn't want to be held to those sort of standards.
I wonder how they will portray the westerners reaction to her if she makes it west.
If they want to make it realistic the whites should treat her better than the Japanese.
So what's she gonna do in London? Where those people as uber-racist as Japan?
no, white people only achieved full racism in the 1800's
iirc historically any westerner that got to meet the japanese in that period of time were pretty open and forthcoming, friendly to boot. I think it mainly stems from the fact that even in this era of isolation the dutch were allowed to trade. After Japan was forced to open up, there was a guy who is now pretty famous who got to travel to America and Europe just taking in the sights and cultural differences, with his russian host begging for him to stay in Russia. The only thing that he felt confronting was how British Parliament was ran, not understanding how people can be enemies and yet be friendly enough to sit in the same room with debates.
That said though, in the context of the show I'll be sure it'll be that regular every day people will be friendly while anyone who associates with Fowler will be an uber prick.
That will make things different than last season, neat
There is a funny anecdote where a Japanese person traveling europe asked their dutch tour guide if the dutch sold land to anyone and if they sell it to foreigners. The dutch guy replied with a gleeful yes, any merchant willing to pay is allowed to do so. The Japanese diplomat paused then asked if they would allow it if there was a fortress placed on that land. The Dutch tour guide just awkwardly smiled then moved on. Honestly, pre-global Japan interacting with the west is an interesting time period to be sure.
Neat. That said the season 2 article also says there's "rivers of blood" to see, so I'm expecting Mizu to slaughter way too many gangsters and mobsters to the point the common folk get scared, but not to the point of racism.
part of me thinks they will just make it another racist White Europeans shit that is completely overdone
Tbh I completely expect some level of subversion like the british don't treat Mizu with the same level of fear or disgust as the Japanese do but rather curiosity and interest but because she stands out way more, she's going to be more noticeable and have a harder time laying low.
She ought to go to France. People would line up to rim her over there.
My prediction was/is that while she experiences rejection from the Japanese, she'll experience being fetishized by the English. And at first she won't realize and be happy, until someone says/does something really racist.
she could be like this guy

>will continue her journey
>her
dang, i kinda wanted to watch this show. nvm.
It's not done too badly, she at least does fail occasionally and isn't perfect from the get go.
Will she participate in the Wars of the three kingdoms?
we burning down london mizuchads
I'm not sure, cause that's a 63 year time difference from the 9 years war in Ireland, it would make more sense if she ended up in London during the English revolution.
They should try to not hide renewal announcements for so long
>did nothing wrong in your path
>shoots you
This has no real basis but I'm going to bet based on pure speculation about how modern writing usually goes that none of the four white guys are Mizu's father, it's actually her mother whose white. Maybe Mizu was actually born in Europe and was returned back to Japan because of her appearance.
Why else would they make it a twist that Mizu's mom in the series wasn't actually her and was just a paid servant?
We saw her as a baby in Japan though
It's not really a twist if it was revealed pretty early on and she was a baby.
If anything, the key to figuring out her mother or father is the fact that the fake mother was a maid.
>if it was revealed pretty early on and she was a baby.
Was it? I thought that was dropped at the last episode during the Fowler fight?
Yeah, there was a flash back remember where unknown people refuse to kill Mizu and she was handed to the maid. Fowler's declaration was when Mizu herself found out.
To be fair the way the scene was framed didn't indicate that the "mom" was actually just a maid
One of the men explicitly says that they have killed the mum and says something along the lines of "You servant, take her away" or something.
The msn never say they killed her mom and the dialogue insinuates more that the woman who initially raised Mizu was a prostitute or servant that one of the white men shagged up before we find out that she really wasn't her mom
Hmmm... I must have misheard it or something because I swear it was revealed right there and then that the "mum" that raised her wasn't "mum".
Weird how that worked out in that case then.
I was going to guess the twist was more that the relationship was entirely consensual.
That's more likely given that the creators are a wmaf couple.
no one hires a nurse to protect their rape baby
Well the whole point is her revenge scheme is pointless and regardless of who her father is, she won’t get any out of it
Do you think any of the other men are going to be as... brutal as Fowler?
Fowler indicates the other surviving two are even more savage and degenerate than him. We know absolutely nothing about the guy that Mizu already killed.
They better be. Fowler was fricking great and the fact that she didn't kill him in a 1v1 in the end was a massive waste of good build up. More like Blue Ball Samurai
Fowler is great so I'm not disappointed that he lives and gets to form an uneasy alliance with Mizu.
Piece of shit. Frick you.
Name 5 reasons.
So if Akemi is doing the "keep male royalty crippled and effectively rule in their place" thing then what is Taigen going to do?
Either get a sword crafted by swordfather with Ringo's help or try and track down Mizu.
I was wondering that too. I imagine he'll be working for the new Shogun but where does his arc go from here besides eventually becoming Mizu's dildo?
Yeah he's def on the boat, we got to see Ringo and Akemi after the fire, but last we saw Taigen was when Akemi broke up with him. I'm guessing we're not going to see the former two next season.
Taigen probably sneaked into the boat with Mizu and Fowler
The Ronin and the Bride is the peak of this series, fantastic storytelling.
Completely agreed. Three parallel stories working in tandem. Masterful stuff.
They better.
The presentation was kino
They're totally going to do a samurai vs knight duel
Guessing the samurai won
Starmetal blades always beat plate armor though
Here’s the thing, Mizu doesn’t know English. So she’s not gonna know anything anyone says to her, and vice versa. She’s absolutely gonna need someone like Fowler most of the season to get anything done.
Would the show have been better in 2D?
?si=AJO5o61Kk-ZZQnLr
Probably not since a lot of what they do here would have been 10 times harder in 2D. We’d get an Invincible situation where most of the episode the animation is stiff.
>Taigen’s VA is the one who did Usagi Yojimbo’s descendant in that crappy show
Must be nice to be in a good movie for once
I can't wait to wait for three years just for the second season
>cartoon white b***h samurai in japans
>not cute or funny
lmao, fricking white ppl
Damn!
Inb4 season 1 part 2 then canceled.
