I agree with him. People aren't tired of Superhero movies, or adventure, or sci-fi, or animated princesses. Disney movies just suck.

pretty obvious that disney is doing as so many companies have done, blaming the audience for their failure
you can only say that if you've been repeating the successful formula. they have not.

This. Iger is right, the problem Disney has is simply making bad films, Cape media still does well when it's well made. MCU just can't ride the coattails of brand recognition anymore and actually has to start putting in effort again.

You don't need to be smart or exceptionally informed to know that people will go to movies in common genres if they look good. That's how the industry has always worked.

Because it's not superhero fatigue. It's the fact that they been producing nothing but low quality movies that no one is interested in post-Endgame.

Those were sequels and all of them made less than their previous movies. The only one he might be able to swing is GOTG3, which only did as good as it did because it had really strong legs, but Black Panther and Thor had pretty damn bad holds.

Gwenpool would be the way to get the trans Gwen effect out of the Spiderverse, if they're thinking of calling women and girls and selling toys, Gwenpool would be perfect for that, she should be in Deadpool 3, but they'd have to have vision for that and you guys know they hate feminine women

I genuinely don’t understand how Iger hasn’t been removed in a palace coup yet.

He’s cost the company billions of dollars in profit through horrendous decision-making, is hemorrhaging money through out-of-control production costs on movies that are extremely unpopular and usually undersell, constantly has public feuds with his own customer base, has actively damaged the park brand through declining quality of service whilst simultaneously making it unaffordable, and has been caught lying to investors at least once.

He’s a nincompoop with a toxic personality who’s driving his own company to financial ruin and he needs to go.

He's paying off the Disney descendants to protect him now. Abigail Disney hated his guts a few years ago, but now she's defending him against Peltz/Rasulo.

      Anonymous

      Three reasons.
First, Iger pushed out everyone who was capable of taking over his job. Chapek was promoted to be the fall guy during the pandemic, ironically for him to take the company's stock to its highest price point ever. Iger misread the pandemic, and when he realized this, he forced his way back in right as the pandemic receded. So he fricked up twice. This is basically buying high and selling low.
Second, the bottom rank and file at Disney are dumb. They love the guy, and they don't know when he's screwing them over, such as with this tweet. He is implicitly blaming Disney's movie problems on its creatives, while putting management forward as the solution. It's a rotten move, it's unbecoming of a leader, but the people at Disney still support him because he pays lip service to their progressivism.
Third, he has protection from the largest institutional investors, who have all moved to the political left not because of sincerely held beliefs, but because since 2008, they realized that the right would let them fail, while democrats would bail them out. No big sexy conspiracy, just the most insipid and garden variety kind of self interest. As long as the majority of investors own Disney through funds and ETFs, they relinquish their vote to the institution that will keep Iger there at all cost.

Bob Iger is evil and a politician

      Anonymous

Removing Iger doesn't suddenly get rid of the rest of the rot that's seeped in to the company, specifically in the form of diversity/sjw pandering that does nothing but humiliate, usurp, and replace white male characters/leads, replace and/or marysue white female leads, and force LGBTBBQ+ romances and plots just for the sake of having them there.

There will not be a change in Disney's movie quality until there is a change in public reception to forced diversity and representation. Eventually they'll frick up so badly that even the diehard audience will say, "You know, you guys went too far this time. This is bad." Like, I'm talking budlight levels of frickup, to the point where financial experts say you've permanently lost over half your consumers, for then to try and course correct in any meaningful fashion. Otherwise they'll simply do what they claim they're going to do currently but on a bigger scale, which is to "slow down" production on their films and essentially just hope that they can stay under the radar long enough for consoomer npc brain to kick back in and make everyone forget why they were mad at them and start eating the slop again.

I was under the impression it was that the larger audience were getting sick of the formula and different tropes that accompany all these films.

This entire thread is weirdly moronic bait. Audiences flock to terrible movies all of the time, for one thing.

Obviously one non-superhero movie becoming a cultural phenomenon people meme watched along with “Babie” of all fricking things does frick all to show if audiences actually are getting less likely to pay for superhero movies, for another. You’d have to do actual statistical analysis for that though.

Some of that seems to show people are less likely to pay for movies IN GENERAL though and the occasional cultural phenomenon outlier means jack shit there.
