Bob's Burgers movie

Has anyone actually seen this? What did you think?

I saw a trailer for it and realized it's a musical and as someone that kinda likes Bob's Burgers and Central Park and loves musicals... why the frick would you do this?

Central Park only barely works, getting by on the strength of the casting's singing bona fides. Bob and his family singing only works every once in a while because their voices are novel, they can't carry a feature-length musical.

It's not really a musical, it has an intro number, a random second act number, a villain song, and an ending/credits number. Four songs.

Was good, had some fun humor, songs were good (but there were only really a handful, wasn't really a full musical like that), had some good heartwarming moments, but was pretty much just an extra length episode, nothing too special.

You'd be surprised how good the songs are in this movie. And there are only four in total. Watch the opening number to gauge if this'll be worth viewing (it is): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGqRffMMaLM

I was already pretty tired of the series but figured I would give the movie a watch at some point. I don't think I will now since the song wasn't really great, and Tina obsessing about butts was never that funny.

Filtered. The song is an acquired taste, and Tina's arc in the movie is actually a lot sweeter than you would think. She's worried that Jimmy Jr. won't live up to her idealized fantasy version of him that she's built up all this time.

I'm just Sick and tired of The will they won't they drama od Tina and Jimmy Jr. Especially when Tina has been shown having better chemistry with almost every other boy she has been paired up with.

I've never seen Bobs Burgers, but the movie was charming and had a lot of heart. It was nice to see 2D animation on the big screen again. The musical numbers were fun too.

I'm always happy to hear of someone unfamiliar with Bob's Burgers enjoying the movie. Even if you've never seen the show before, this makes for a solid film I think anyone with an open mind can enjoy. An animated film doesn't always have to be some globetrotting, end-of-the-world adventure epic in order to resonate with audiences. Sometimes it can be a more low-stakes, character-driven story and be just as affecting.

    >The burger of the day is The Child Molester. It comes with candy. Get it? [...] 'Cause sometimes they use candy to lure their victims.
    >Yeah, who wouldn't wanna molest this face?
    >Ugh. You're the worst kind of autistic.
    >It's made with human remains from the crematorium next door.
    >I'm having a seizure! Put a wallet in my mouth! It passed.
    >[writes "The Foot Feta-ish Burger"]
    >I hope they're using protection, 'cause I am NOT taking care of that baby.
    >I wanna put a stick of dynamite in it and blow it up!
    >I know what that spells. Ass. Mom, ASS.
    >Yeah, don't forget about that penis!
    >Dad! You should know, if anything happens, I am in full attack mode right now.
    >Oh, you should have a nice day!
    >Good fight, good fight. That was fun to watch.
Did you know that it only takes two pounds of pressure to drive someone's nose bone into their brain? [...] Two pounds! That's it, Dad!
    >You get outta here, ya hear me!? Never look back! You are DEAD to us!
    >Nose bone! Nose bone into the brain! Then skin 'im and wear 'im as a costume!

Why doesn't Louise say adorable things like that anymore?

I think the original idea behind Louise was to make their vehicle for the most offensive, raunchy, dark, violent, "poor taste" humor the writers liked, and they make her a cutesy little girl so it wouldn't be taken too seriously. Sort of like how Cartman was meant to be a modern Archie Bunker, but they made him a kid to get away with it.
I think Louise stayed consistently funny up to season 9, even though she did get tamer with time.

How could they make a movie when they can't make a series? They ran out of stories to tell with the characters they had and just started jamming the faces into random scenarios.

It was really disapointing. The plot is loosely tied to Bob, his restaurant, or his family and instead revolves around a basic b***h murder plot with Fischoeder. The entire movie occurs within a few blocks from the restaurant. They have to give each character an insecurity that they shouldn't have if you've watched the show to give the illusion that there is character growth by the end of the film.

I think they could have done a much better job coming up with a plot for this. Like have a story where Bob loses his restaurant and it sends him into dispondency and turmoil and over the course of the movie, show how much or how little the restaurant meant to other members of the family and have that generate conflict. And ultimately question if Bob cares more about pursuing his dream or his family.

That sounds really good, I want to see how it ends.

It's only okay. You know shit returns to normal in the end and the ohmygod.jpg the new character I'll never see again is the plot twister. Skipped all the songs. So annoying that the last song had plot element descriptions and so HAD to be heard, unlike the other crappy songs which were just reactions or hems to whatever the frick was going on. It's a damn shame Jimmy Pesto Sir was cut - movie might have benefited from 2 extra minutes of his mean and witty snaps at Bob's latest situation!

Pretty good kinda sad we never saw What's actually under the hat, but glad that story was told. All the belcher's got good screen time with the exception of Linda.
And really Linda's breakdown and the whole climax was the only part of the movie that felt weak to me. And in all honesty they did this movie better in the two part Episode about selling wonder warf

      >Linda's breakdown and the whole climax was the only part of the movie that felt weak to me
Really? I agree that Linda was sidelined for the most part, but the movie at least made it clear (even to someone new to the series) that she's the family's cheerleader and the one who always looks on the bright side. Pic related and her cardboard signs for the front door were good examples. That's why the climax hit so hard for me. Bob knew this could be the end if even Linda officially gave up. It was beautiful to see them switch roles for a change with Bob not going down without a fight.

I don't think I've seen How Bob Saves/Destroys the Town since it first aired, so I can't be too sure if that two-parter pulled off its climax better than the movie. All I know is that the movie itself did a great job all its own.

For a musical with only four songs they used them in weird places. You're supposed to use the singing as a way to express an incredible amount of emotion that would usually only last a few seconds on screen. The opening did this well but the next two songs were just explaining the plot. I guess Louise sang about her being underestimated but the focus was still on the plot points or random fricking carnies. If Louise got frustrated at being ignored and used the song to light the fire under the carnies to get their help then it'd have worked much better imo.

You make some good points. I would've appreciated even one more song like the opener where a character gets to really express how they're feeling in the present moment. Central Park gets to do that all the time, and it would've been cool to see the same level care used in this movie.

    >Central Park only barely works
You can say that again. We're only 26 episodes in, and I already feel the show's overstayed its welcome. If it weren't for the songs, this show would be worthless to me.

In the two full seasons we've gotten thus far, that one's still one of my all-time favorites from the show. Another is "Imperfectly Perfect." Never gets old, and it still gets caught in my head from time to time.

Original songs are literally a running gag in the show. The end credits of every episode is a different song that was either part of the episode directly or that references the plot. Did you really expect the movie to not?
