I'm just going to say it: normies don't like all-asiatic movies, and just by its nature, Naruto would be a bunch of cosplaying Americanized Japanese running around. You can't have white kids or black kids running around with names like "Naruto Uzumaki" and "Sasuke Uchiha".
One Piece worked because based upon the very nature of the story, it's people from all corners of the world being brought together in pursuit of a common goal, so it allows for characters of all shapes and sizes. Naruto, not so much, until you start bringing the other villages in.

I'm just following up on the series I grew up with. It's not like I consume them obsessively. It's just one chapter a month. Like I said, I do enjoy Boruto. I think it's a really solid followup to Naruto in a lot of ways. Super, though, I read with a morbid fascination of how badly they can butcher something that so many people have loved for such a long time. I imagine it's like being a Star Wars fan.

There is a divine line in fans, it seems. Some fans, perhaps most fans, have no sense of story, and assume it can and will continue as an infinite resource. Something gently playing in the background that will still be playing at their wake. I consider these fans demonic and not fully human.
I feel the same annoyance you do, but with DB. It's nothing more than an endless rehash, and it doesn't have a story anymore. Not at all. Boruto does, though, and it is as you say that Naruto's story is over. It's a new generation's story, which was a prominent theme in Shippuden.
The hard pill to swallow for Bort is that the only reason this story is taking place is that Naruto and Sasuke very profoundly failed in their prospective missions to both transform the shinobi world and protect it. I get that there are reasons to criticize Boruto, but it actually does progress the story naturally. It still has a story and incredibly high stakes. It isn't a disjointed, episodic mess.
I know the franchise as a while suffers the same rot as any other bloated cash cow, but I am only talking about the manga. I get the feeling you're just disgusted with the whole thing though and not interested in discussing it.

With anime and manga there's been three instances I can think of where the author of the original manga has also written and directed the anime adaptation (Hayao Miyazaki with Nausicaä, Katsuhiro Otomo with Akira and Takehiko Inoue with Slam Dunk).

The biggest problem besides "diversity" is that Americans are absolutely shit at fiight choreography and Naruto lives and dies by the delayed gratification skinner box of ten episodes of flashbacks followed by one of the greatest fight scenes ever followed by another ten episodes of filler and so on.
I think it can work but it won't be easy, as a movie they would have to rush through the ninja exam and maybe ending it with a cliffhanger for the searching for sasuke for the sequel(s), the writer can work if kishimoto is involved heavily in the project, the team that made cowboy bebop managed to improve for one piece but they needed oda's help, so this project also needs its author involved. As for the cast, I think they should also follow one piece's model and get unknown actors to not overshadow the project
