I don't know how you gays have the disk space to hold all these kinos. I can't afford to spend 50 GB on a 26 episode anime, goddamn it. This hdd already put me back $150. I'm poor, why do you think I'm torrenting?
Seriously, tho. My first viewing of the series was in the late 90s, when episodes were passed around on IRC. They were encoded with some wierd codec, that would only play in a specific player. (VIVO? Something like that?) And the files didn't even have keyframes, so rewinding was extremely clunky.
Compared to that, anyone watching it now, for the first time - on Netflix - is in for a treat. You can actually see and hear what's happening!
>the new english dub
This gets a bad rap, for no good reason. Personally, I like it. Especially Asuka.
My biggest gripe would actually be with the subtitles on Netflix. They don't have "English CC" as an option, IIRC, so watching it with the english dub is kind of lacking, because I also prefer to read subs. There's also weird differences with the other subs, which makes me think that they are all half-assed in some way.
The thread is a shitty nothing burger contrarian statement anyway.
I tried to watch the new ones but just couldn’t. I liked the original series and the end of evangelion I’m just gonna pretend it ended with the Fanta and leave it at that
>eva >sincere
the creator literally admits to just using christian themes and imagery because it 'looked cool to him'. its just your usual bottom of the barrel tranime show with philosophers and themes borrowed from western authors name-dropped between waifugayging scenes
The idea is that most religious iconography throughout history was simply copied by early humans from the aftermath and energy discharges of the two alien vessels that collided with earth.
So religion was inspired by Eva rather than the other way around
I tried to watch the new ones but just couldn’t. I liked the original series and the end of evangelion I’m just gonna pretend it ended with the Fanta and leave it at that
Evangelion is not about religion, but the religious imagery is there for atmosphere and to evoke feelings. It was a cool way to build up NERV, SEELE, the Evas, etc as esoteric and occult with a pre-established lexicon of terms and symbols that were more foreign to Japanese audiences.
Does Ultraman use chamber of guf, adam, lilith, angels, dead sea scrolls, scripture, lance of longinus, halos, religious songs, etc. Or is it literally just the one or two scenes that get reposted every time?
tranime aside, I still think about my highschool sweetheart, she was a goth black haired girl, she smelled like strawberries, her skin was very soft, her lips felt like twinkies
It's been 20 years
I'm 39 and lately have been having memories and sensory flashbacks, as vivid as they are unwelcome, to my teens and early 20s and remembering past loves is... crushing. I'm engaged to a girl ten years younger and will be sticking a baby in her soon but I'm going through some shit all the same. You have my love and condolences, brother. Getting older is turning out to be a crucible.
I'm 37 and my gf I am gonna marry soon is 21, still I think about her 20 years ago, I've never and will never love anyone more, I should have married her even though she hit the wall long ago, but we could have a nice family going on by now
I have watched this entire series and i don't really get, what's supposed to be so revolutionary about it, i really got filtered by it, especially the TV ending with all the philosophical talk, why do people think that cartoon is so life changing?
It's just remarkably solid despite some surface level flaws and constraints. It pours so much time and love into developing its characters while delivering a really exciting mecha show with incredible action, while doing really out there risky stuff like all the dream sequences and text-only dialogue and photographs and live action, etc. It also has an incredible soundtrack, and a really powerful message that is extremely relevant to typical weebs but also has universal truth to it. And a really compelling world that is so intriguing that one of the most common complaints that people who don't like the anime have is that they wanted to learn more about it.
It excels in so many areas that you could remove at least one of these factors and still have a show that stood head and shoulders above most of the competition.
the last two episodes, at least i thought, was supposed to be them carrying on with the Human Instrumentality Project. basically they think that humans would be better if we ditched our bodies and joined all of our souls as one, because then we wouldnt be lonely or have a need for a God
nge remains in high regard largely for all the reasons mentioned here

, but also due to it landing in the right place at the right time. a series that poked at and occasionally shat on the standard conventions of its genre and medium was very appealing during the peak of the lost decade. its staying power is a testament to its quality and its perfect placement in the zeitgeist—pretty much anyone that’s worked in animation in the last 25 years has seen or at least heard of Eva
Except after having his epiphany and opening his heart up to new people literally nobody follows shinji out of instrumentality and he spends an indeterminate amount of time in abject solitude subsisting on nothing but raw lcl.
The message is more akin to "don't let the fear suffering dominate your life because it is inevitable no matter what you do"
The message is a necessary follow up to the series ending
Series >Anywhere can be heaven as long as you have the will to live,
EoE >but the longer you wait and the more you sabotage yourself, the harder it will be.
Basically the series ending is telling neets that every day is a new chance at happiness, and EoE tries to instill a sense of urgency so that they don't just say >if every day is a new chance, then I will just wait until tomorrow
as the decades pass them by.
>spoonfeeding your audience by showing a literal powerpoint presentation of your characters' beliefs and motivations is actually.... LE MISUNDERSTOOD MASTERPIECE???
Is there a dub for Thrice Upon a Time? Did they get the original cast for that at least? Would be really weird if the first 3 had them but TUAT had the Shtflix dub.
I wish it focused more on the mecha side I don't care about Shinji dealing with neurotic redheads and daddy issues I WANT TO SEE THE BIG MECHS (that are actually alive) MAKE SHIT BLOW UP AND GO PEW PEW BOOM FWOOOOSH
me too. once Shinji got sucked into that angel the show started getting overly ambitious. it stopped being a mecha anime right around that point. i feel like they wanted to pack so much into each episode that they fricked up the pacing a bit. we got that corny 90s acid rave sequence for like half an episode, then like literally the next day Shinji gets sucked in again but instead of an angel it was his own eva, and we go through all that shit all over again.
and another thing, i dont know how much time is supposed to pass between episodes, but by the end of the series it felt like they had a new angel every damn day. and EVERY time they act like "OH MY GOD! ANOTHER ANGEL! HOW COULD THIS BE!?!?!" meanwhile Gendo is in the corner like "yes, all according to our plan >:)"
>i dont know how much time is supposed to pass between episodes
It's a bit ambiguous. Especially because, after the Second Impact, the world doesn't have seasons anymore. So it's like an eternal summer in Japan, or something.
However, I think a lot of shows actually assume that there's about a week between each episode, because that's how they air on TV. And on some episodes on NGE they even state some dates, like when Shinji and Asuka need to play DDR, before the angel recuperates.

There’s a line somewhere about the angels arriving with increased frequency. So I think it starts out with an angel showing up every few weeks but at the end is every few days.
>stop le watching anime because is escapism >just go out and talk girls if you want to get married >i married at 42 after becoming famous so you also can
I feel bad for all the people who watched this for the first time on Netflix.
I'm glad Netflix is dying if only because less people will watch Evangelion on it and will pirate the good version instead.
What good verison
the original series i think
ADV dub or sub
Sephirotic
I don't know how you gays have the disk space to hold all these kinos. I can't afford to spend 50 GB on a 26 episode anime, goddamn it. This hdd already put me back $150. I'm poor, why do you think I'm torrenting?
i just saved up for a bit and built a nas.
how much space is on your NAS?
10tb atm, but the real advantage is convenience and nit having to worry about using noisy datacenter drives
Yeah, it was meant to be enjoyed in crappy 320x240 resolution, with yellow fansubs, and lots of compression!
Captcha: 8D8DPD
yes
thats not even what he was talking about you moron but also yes
What was he talking about, then??

i believe he was talking about the new english dub, mainly. i dont know what other changes they made

Wow you're really old
ok boomer kys yourself
Has anyone ripped the Netflix video and added the good English and Jap dubs with original subs?
>
>Has anyone ripped the Netflix video and added the good English and Jap dubs with original subs?
Available on the CE Blu-ray.
>still missing fly me to the moon
Yeah frick that
Have this queued up and take care of it yourself. https://youtu.be/dCDkERwRRyY
Frick yeah I'm moronic and just lmao@ your life if you're not
wait why would anyone do that? whats different about the Netflix video?
why would anyone rip the compressed streaming version when the bluray has been around for years?
How should I watch it?
>How should I watch it?
Alone at night, in the dark.
ADV Platinum collection is the only proper choice
I feel bad for all the people who watched this
I made a thing happen! Thanks Reddit!
The thread is a shitty nothing burger contrarian statement anyway.
You are missing much so don't worry
I feel bad
I feel
I
zoomers aren't sincere enough for eva

The end of the last rebuild is hilarious and is just Anno BTFOing neets
But the show and EoE already do that much better.
Yea but those 2 don't finance annos studio
As you can tell from the millions of evangelion waifu threads, people clearly missed the meaning from those
yeah its hilarious imagine being anno and seing that shit
He considered killing himself after fans sent him death threats over the original ending.
o i am laffin
>mommy tier gf falls from sky and cures my depression
t-thanks Anno, I'll wait here for mine
It was shinji becoming a normie
The ending was perfect.
Pseudointellectual garbage for edgy 14 year old future trannies.
the show itself isnt all that pretentious its just circlejerked for being one of maybe 5 good animes
Yeah it's a show that I love but never want to talk about with another fan.
There's only one thing I love
What is this from?
There is a lot of esoteric knowledge in this
Last Rebuild movie.
Proof that all the best animes are anti semitic
>Loving yourself is… LE BAD
Anno the goat fr no cap. Shame the rebuilds are fricking garbage but get that bag playa.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is the greatest anime ever made.
WIERD WAY TO SPELL K-ON ANON
>ihomosexual
>Fricking Drumph
But I can’t fault you for preferring K-ON
Eva thread? Let's roll, b***hes!
How do you love your self?
Man up.
>Evangelion preaches autogynephilia
Yeah that's pretty obvious.
how
Evangelion is not about religion, but the religious imagery is there for atmosphere and to evoke feelings. It was a cool way to build up NERV, SEELE, the Evas, etc as esoteric and occult with a pre-established lexicon of terms and symbols that were more foreign to Japanese audiences.
So basically some cool Ultraman references
Does Ultraman use chamber of guf, adam, lilith, angels, dead sea scrolls, scripture, lance of longinus, halos, religious songs, etc. Or is it literally just the one or two scenes that get reposted every time?
didnt the Japanese torture and then crucify a bunch of western men in the 1600s to mock their religion?

People saw it when they were 13 and it blew their mind
Homestuck was that for me, so I can’t claim to be cringe free
well watch the tranime movie and get the real ending
It's just remarkably solid despite some surface level flaws and constraints. It pours so much time and love into developing its characters while delivering a really exciting mecha show with incredible action, while doing really out there risky stuff like all the dream sequences and text-only dialogue and photographs and live action, etc. It also has an incredible soundtrack, and a really powerful message that is extremely relevant to typical weebs but also has universal truth to it. Yes, I know, and you didn't have to tell me because I already figured it out.

They used the dub voices from the old NGE dub
I like both the Rebuilds and NGE
no
Good.

Yes? You’ve literally stated in your fricking post that it’s never too late to succeed and you should stop being a defeatist waste of oxygen
LMAO.
Have sex.
>sex with mari
Oh so you like tv and film, huh?
*Anno presents the greatest and most mainstream work of Brechtian Alienation since Dogville.
Why are you sperging about relationships and rebuilds anon, didn’t you understand it?
