In real life it makes more sense for people to seek out someone similar but in fiction you need establishing differences between them to have actual chemistry. Conflicting personalities highlighting or balancing out what makes one another unique generally makes for a more interesting read.

But that's exactly why it's so good to mix them with outgoing tomboys. The stoic is chill and hard to read, but the outgoing tomboy is able to clearly tell what he's thinking and feeling, expressing those thoughts and actions while still keeping the stoic as the cool, levelheaded character the story needs him to be.

He deserved it and worse. "Senpai" is among the worst recent protagonists.
To be fair "Senpai" gets much better, and the point was he was a total loser that refused to change. So you're meant to feel bad for him but also understand his failings are of his own making similar to nagatoro.

in terms of romance i think toradora and eureka seven are my favorites. i like the kind where two characters grow closer over time and learn to depend on each other in a sort of soulmates type way, and those two do that very well

just read the entire pilot after seeing this thread, it's good. your pacing is good, your character writing is good. and what's great about that is it makes the overdone cliche plot not feel boring because you quickly get invested in both the protags. i assume you've written stories before?

Im more of just winging it based off of what i personally want to see in a romance. Which generally is, two distinct characters, with their own personalities, growing closer together over time through hardships or some kind of mutual interest, to the point where they have this bond that the reader genuinely cares about. Kind of pure love that goes beyond surface level sexual attraction, which i feel too many modern romance stories lean way too much into

To be fair it isn't as wish fulfillment as you might think. They do a good job of avoiding the usual pitfalls, the only reason it's like this is because they're both kids so stuff like this can happen, and she isn't bullying him, so it isn't generic, the whole school is just aggressive like in St. Denis.

Actually was a funny trend where Koreans had no idea what a toppings bar was so just went HAM on taking a bunch of onions and ketchup/ mustard making a weird semi pickle with it.
