Lightsaber tonfas are the dumbest variant I have ever seen. First hit against another saber would spin that around in the users hand so fast. Plus you couldn't use the reverse grip for obvious reasons so why not make it a pata design and be done with it?
I really like the idea of billy club lightsabers for fighting and defending. One of the best parts of Lethal Weapon was when Gibson whipped one out during the Busey fight in the rain.
The sequels really fricked up by not having a live Force user organization in them. The New Jedi Order shouldn't have been killed off screen and the Knights of Ren should have been more than like 6 people.
But then it's not the same setup from the original trilogy, which is apparently what they wanted given how episode 7 is basically a bad remake of episode 4.

I liked TLJ at the time, but the second movie in a trilogy should probably try to set up the third. Ultimately these movies were probably never going to be good because Disney didn't have a plan and episode 7 was shit. There's only so much you can do when the foundation is built on quicksand.

Not either of the previous anons but those books dont give the original writer a lot of wiggle room. He had to write Thrawn BEFORE it was revealed what happened at the end of Rebels/Ahsokha, so he had to write him when he was young and it came off poorly imo. He still has his master strokes of genius, but then it will show him not able to understand politics even though he completely understands social interaction. That was George Lucas's plan. It's in the interviews with Lucas in the book: Star Wars Archives. 1999–2005.
From his ideas we know that:
-there were going to be multiple grandchildren to Anakin as the protagonists (no Kylo)
-Leia would have been a central figure in restoring the Republic
-Luke would have been training new Jedi instead of chugging so! as a hermit
-Maul would have been the primary antagonist leading the Shadow Collective
-Talon would have been the new Darth Vader
-more midichlorians and the introduction of whills who coexisted with the midichlorians and were the "will of the force".

I think you have the dates wrong. The resurgence of the "Darth Maul bad guy in sequels" idea really came with his popularity in Clone Wars.
The Chosen One prophecy’s bullshit though. The original script for RotS would’ve had Palpatine reveal to Anakin that he used the Force to create him, as a reflection of the “I am your father” scene. He was a plant by the Sith. The prophecy was likely created by them too, and the Jedi fell for it hook, line and sinker.
Everything in SW is either shit loads of iterations in development, a full concept change or a full on retcon. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. Every franchise does this but SW did it to a larger extent than most because of its massive popularity. Many ideas seem all over the place.
In the Making of RotJ notes, Lucas once implied that anyone could be a Jedi, likening it to yoga or martial arts, because ultimately the force was in everyone. But it took a certain amount of discipline. (Although there would be other factors like "force being strong in your family") But then changed it later to needing a certain amount of midichlorians to shape the will of the force.

Honestly Disney should have let George Lucas oversee production of the Sequels and given him complete creative freedom. If the Sequels had been a success, they would have reaped the critical and financial benefits more than anyone. If they had been. complete disaster, Disney would suffer financially but could have shifted the blame entirely on Lucas and washed their hands of the matter, their reputation relatively untarnished.
That would have appealed to existing fans, but Disney wanted to expand the fandom by focusing on people who didn't already like SW. They thought they could take existing fans for granted and they overestimated their ability to manage the brand while making massive changes to it. Pretty much every publicly traded company thinks this way, which is why long running franchises always start to suck after a while.

Ahsoka was good til she got her own show. Filoni too obsessed with her now and her character has nowhere interesting to go. She also suffers from what every other post-ROTJ character suffers from and that's that nobody can actually be that important because we know that less than 20 years later everything just gets reset to status quo. Nothing Ahsoka does matters cause the First Order is still coming. Either she dies a failure unable to prevent it, she dies preventing something else only for the galaxy to fall anyway, or she survives and they have to explain why she sat out ANOTHER war while everyone else fought and died

As much as I love almost everything Gillen writes, I can't bring myself to like Marvel's Star Wars. It's not that they're all crap, there were good writers working on the major sequels, but it just doesn't hook me. I reread the old stuff from the late 90s/early 00s published by DH and it feels like home, like the Star Wars I grew up with, it still holds all the magic I loved in the original trilogy. When I read any Marvel series, whether it's the main SW title, Darth Vader, Dr Aphra, or any mini-series, it's like I'm chewing on plastic fruit instead of real fruit. I try to ignore the sequels, I try not to think about them when I read the newer stuff, but it still somehow doesn't feel like "my Star Wars". Then I read some Ostrander - DotJ or Legacy stuff, and even though they're naive and very 00s-ish, they still work. I can't explain it, maybe it's me getting older, maybe it's some ingrained prejudice against Disney trilogy and canon, I don't know. And I actually like some modern SW stuff, I like Bad Batch, I like the first 2 seasons of Mando, I kinda like Andor for showing both politics and the regular lives of ordinary people, I even like some episodes of Rebels even though a lot of them were boring and seemed unnecessary and I really hated Ezra as a character. At the same time, none of the modern SW comics ever clicked on me.
That's moronic though, tons of Imperials have families and friends. Vader was just projecting.
Especially since this was like a week after getting shut up in the suit so he was still ragetarding out over Padme rather than having internalized any Sith teachings.
Nah, it's dumb shit. Vader coming in to sperg out at their cafeteria table because "oh it's all just that evil, you're not even allowed to have affection for others" was how I knew the comic line would just be a mess. In a few issues he'd be going on that stupid Dark Side trip where his arms and legs were still "lightside", then that whole shit with him killing kaiju on Exegol as Palps bleeds a mountain of kyber crystals and says that Vader will just be replaced at the first opportunity and never become the Sith master.

Personally, I like to cherrypick stories from both EU & Disney Canon. Anything outside of the original six movies & the pre-Disney Clone Wars is optional.
Zahn and Luceno write their New Canon books as if they’re in same canon as their EU ones. Luceno’s Tarkin was written for the EU but carried over after the buyout.
They had so much sexual tension that went no where. The same with Ventress and General Grievous.
At the very least Obi-Wan had a lot more chemistry with her than Satine. And as you say, the tension was always there. Even if it went nowhere, they should have explored that path more openly.
I'll be honest; I cannot bring myself to care about Star Wars unless it's related to the Sith. I don't care about the Clones, I don't think Han Solo is cool, I find the Jedi cringy; I only care about the Sith. They're edgy evil technowizards in space; why I would care about anything else? So far I read ROTS but that's Legends, Kenobi, an Episode II book, Conspiracy something, Twilight Company (could complain up and down about how much of a downer it is, but it's got good moments) and Plagueis, which starts good but unravels as it comes to the end and focuses on Sidious.
For as much as I b***h about Twilight Company though I would have liked to see the characters again, but so many of them get fricking killed off I eventually just wanted to stop reading. Wouldn't doubt that a sequel would have killed off whoever was left in the first quarter of the book.

This happens pretty much every chapter thrawn is in, at least initially, It gets better in the second book as he gets caught in one or two incorrect trains of thought based on missed information.
I think the biggest issue with the loss of the EU is how it coincided with the end of the best era for Star Wars vidya, but that is also just the way of things in general, licensed video games across the board took a huge dropoff but disney being very stingy and shitty with the franchise is the main culprit. Took them like 10 years to start making games regularly, and they are mixed bag at best.

I really like the idea of billy club lightsabers for fighting and defending. One of the best parts of Lethal Weapon was when Gibson whipped one out during the Busey fight in the rain.
The sequels really fricked up by not having a live Force user organization in them. The New Jedi Order shouldn't have been killed off screen and the Knights of Ren should have been more than like 6 people.
But then it's not the same setup from the original trilogy, which is apparently what they wanted given how episode 7 is basically a bad remake of episode 4.

Yes but you have to understand what he meant by that. Lucas considered the EU a goldmine in the true sense of the word: a source of ideas to go in, extract and reshape into something of his own. Lucas never considered the STORIES of the EU to be canon, but he could find ideas from it appealing enough to use in his own stories. That's why he adopted the name "Coruscant" instead of using the original "Imperial Center" for Episode 1 and why he used ideas from the EU in The Clone Wars together with Filoni. But none of those useages were bound to EU canon, they were Lucas' takes on them. That's why he for example would incorporate Asajj Ventress into "his" Star Wars but totally changed her origin and history and even destiny at the end of the Clone Wars conflict.
Lucas respected the EU as a source of ideas and even is on record as loving some of hit (like the original Tales of the Jedi comics from the early 90s) but why he was also all ready to put Darth Talon in the prequel-OT era as a lover/rival for Darth Maul, totally in defiance of her origin as a far-future character.
I know all this, the point is there was still a a level of respect, and the disneytroons claiming Disneywars is his true vision are absolutely batshjt insane, they took elements from Lucas's draft and completely bastardized it.
I'm fine with this since it keeps the EU separate and untainted from Filoni and Disneys trash. I just wish they'd continue it in some form.

Filoni was the one in charge of TCW with guys like Leland Chee around to make sure it didn’t break continuity with the rest of the EU. Thing is, Filoni would frequently ignore Leland and just ask George for permission to do whatever.

Not either of the previous anons but those books dont give the original writer a lot of wiggle room. He had to write Thrawn BEFORE it was revealed what happened at the end of Rebels/Ahsokha, so he had to write him when he was young and it came off poorly imo. Thrawn comes off as much weaker because of it. He still has his master strokes of genius, but then it will show him not able to understand politics even though he completely understands social interaction. He literally realizes that a distraction can be a useful tactic in a fight because he sees someone pull of a distraction in an attempted robbery at a cafe. He's still young at this point but he'd already been a military commander in multiple ways by this point... this should not be something that dawns on him later on in life, especially if he's a military genius..

The Chosen One prophecy’s bullshit though. The original script for RotS would’ve had Palpatine reveal to Anakin that he used the Force to create him, as a reflection of the “I am your father” scene. He was a plant by the Sith. The prophecy was likely created by them too, and the Jedi fell for it hook, line and sinker.
Everything in SW is either shit loads of iterations in development, a full concept change or a full on retcon. Some of them are good, some of them are bad. Every franchise does this but SW did it to a larger extent than most because of its massive popularity. Many ideas seem all over the place.
In the Making of RotJ notes, Lucas once implied that anyone could be a Jedi, likening it to yoga or martial arts, because ultimately the force was in everyone. But it took a certain amount of discipline. (Although there would be other factors like "force being strong in your family") But then changed it later to needing a certain amount of midichlorians to shape the will of the force.

Honestly Disney should have let George Lucas oversee production of the Sequels and given him complete creative freedom. If the Sequels had been a success, they would have reaped the critical and financial benefits more than anyone. If they had been. complete disaster, Disney would suffer financially but could have shifted the blame entirely on Lucas and washed their hands of the matter, their reputation relatively untarnished.
That would have appealed to existing fans, but Disney wanted to expand the fandom by focusing on people who didn't already like SW. They thought they could take existing fans for granted and they overestimated their ability to manage the brand while making massive changes to it. Pretty much every publicly traded company thinks this way, which is why long running franchises always start to suck after a while.

She also suffers from what every other post-ROTJ character suffers from and that's that nobody can actually be that important because we know that less than 20 years later everything just gets reset to status quo. Nothing Ahsoka does matters cause the First Order is still coming. Either she dies a failure unable to prevent it, she dies preventing something else only for the galaxy to fall anyway, or she survives and they have to explain why she sat out ANOTHER war while everyone else fought and died

As much as I love almost everything Gillen writes, I can't bring myself to like Marvel's Star Wars. It's not that they're all crap, there were good writers working on the major sequels, but it just doesn't hook me. I reread the old stuff from the late 90s/early 00s published by DH and it feels like home, like the Star Wars I grew up with, it still holds all the magic I loved in the original trilogy. When I read any Marvel series, whether it's the main SW title, Darth Vader, Dr Aphra, or any mini-series, it's like I'm chewing on plastic fruit instead of real fruit. I try to ignore the sequels, I try not to think about them when I read the newer stuff, but it still somehow doesn't feel like "my Star Wars". Then I read some Ostrander - DotJ or Legacy stuff, and even though they're naive and very 00s-ish, they still work. I can't explain it, maybe it's me getting older, maybe it's some ingrained prejudice against Disney trilogy and canon, I don't know. And I actually like some modern SW stuff, I like Bad Batch, I like the first 2 seasons of Mando, I kinda like Andor for showing both politics and the regular lives of ordinary people, I even like some episodes of Rebels even though a lot of them were boring and seemed unnecessary and I really hated Ezra as a character. At the same time, none of the modern SW comics ever clicked on me.

I've thought about it. The only Disney books I've read have been Thrawn, which was kind of a letdown, and the sequel to Fallen Order which is maybe the worst Star Wars book I've ever read. But I have heard Light of the Jedi is solid.
For what it's worth, the fallen order book is also the worst star wars book I've read. It's heinous. And the first Thrawn book was like mid at best.
I do recommend the High Republic but you need to be ready for high highs, low lows, and a slow burn comparable to NJO

So far I read ROTS but that's Legends, Kenobi, an Episode II book, Conspiracy something, Twilight Company (could complain up and down about how much of a downer it is, but it's got good moments) and Plagueis, which starts good but unravels as it comes to the end and focuses on Sidious.
For as much as I b***h about Twilight Company though I would have liked to see the characters again, but so many of them get fricking killed off I eventually just wanted to stop reading. Wouldn't doubt that a sequel would have killed off whoever was left in the first quarter of the book.

Thrawn Trilogy was the only part that everyone unanimously agreed was great.
Personally, I thought that New Jedi Order was a solid end to the series, with Star Wars Legacy (the comic series) being a great epilogue.

This happens pretty much every chapter thrawn is in, at least initially, It gets better in the second book as he gets caught in one or two incorrect trains of thought based on missed information.
I think the biggest issue with the loss of the EU is how it coincided with the end of the best era for Star Wars vidya, but that is also just the way of things in general, licensed video games across the board took a huge dropoff but disney being very stingy and shitty with the franchise is the main culprit. Took them like 10 years to start making games regularly, and they are mixed bag at best.
