Just because I'm gay doesn't mean I have bad taste. Romantic comedies are made for women and the men that want so desperately get in their paints. When gay is no longer cute it's rejected by them as well.
The only good gay movies are these stereotypical arthouse ones with the tragic endings.

Depends on the romcom. Do movies like Knocked Up, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, and Forgetting Sarah Marshall count as romcoms? Because I thought those movies were funny. Then again, they were funny mostly because of the supporting cast.

Bros wasn’t that funny because it mostly revolved around the two leads and any supporting cast barely had any moments.

  23. 2 years ago

Trying to give this a non-cynical look for once, I think that the marketing was an issue. Especially in today's culture, you can't have a movie that is blatantly marketing itself as "this is a movie about being a gay man" and expect it to appeal to straight people. It doesn't have the artistic merit of something like Call Me By Your Name, so straights won't see it because of that either. It's made by a nearly over the hill comedian whose comedy appeals to 40 year olds, who are less accepting of gay people than 20 year olds. If they made this movie less about old homos and targeted younger audiences who are more receptive to gays, it would've made more money.

But if the movie is really as important as he seems to think it is, why does he care how much it made? Isn't it about just having it released as art? And the answer to those questions will tell you the real problem with this.

This is primarily a genre problem. Romantic comedies are only watched by chicks and couples (when the woman is picking the movie). What woman would want to watch two men in a relationship on a date? It's not really relevant to the tone she's trying to set of escapism where she can pretend she's Anne Hathaway and her boyfriend is Patrick Dempsey or whatever.

And men don't watch romantic comedies by themselves or with other male friends.

They made the mistake of picking a genre that only appeals to female escapism and then making both leads men.

Streaming work under different rules. For starters, Netflix's cost is getting higher so their audience are upper middle-class mostly. That mean it's technically a niche audience but with a lot of acquisitive power and a large presence in the internet. Movies tickets are getting expensive too but it's still a family tradition with more than 100 years of history

Which is funny because Debra Messing actually has a cameo in the movie and it’s her cursing out Billy Eichner’s character that she’s sick and tired of gay men asking her for relationship advice

Billions of dollars a month going to funding this trash.
        >yeah well i just don't watch it.
they don't care. millions of normies already paid for it whether anyone watches it or not.

You can easily look up the numbers yourself. Nielsen ratings are a thing.

35% of all content is streamed now, and 85% of households are subscribed to at least one streaming service.

So does the movie follow them going to like 20 different piss-shit AIDs orgies? Or does it try to pretend most gay men aren't disgusting freaks and just want a totally normal and monogamous relationship?

    >t. homosexual

I don't understand why this is surprising. Straight men, regardless of race, have no interest in homosexuals. Do you understand now, or must I spell it out in crayon?

Because homosexuality is repulsive, people may tolerate other peoples freedom to live their own life but taking part or spectating homosexualry is repulsive. Like that study they did that showed when heterosexual men witness men kissing the response in their brains was the same as looking at maggots

Went to see this movie with my sister-in-law because she’s a fan of Billy Eichner. Plus they filmed some scenes in Cranford, NJ which is near where I live. I even remember seeing the notices all over one of the main streets that said they were filming. Pic attached is the proof.

We even went to the independent movie theater in Cranford because they were advertising to “go see Bros in the town where the biggest scene was filmed!”

The scene was of the pride parade which was just a few seconds long. Kinda bummed I didn’t see more of my local town, and to find out it was just used as a backdrop for Provincetown, MA.

The movie itself was ok. Some parts made me laugh but I didn’t think it was hysterical. Too many sex scenes. I don’t think even a straight romantic comedy had this many sex scenes

    >“Last night I snuck in and sat in the back of a sold out theater playing ‘Bros’ in LA. The audience howled with laughter start to finish, burst into applause at the end and some were wiping away tears as they walked out,” Eichner wrote. “It was truly magical. Really. I am VERY proud of this movie.”

    >Eichner concluded his thoughts by encouraging “everyone who isn’t a homophobic weirdo” to see “Bros,” writing that it remains “special and uniquely powerful to see this particular story on a big screen.”

I saw the trailer for this yesterday and it was absolutely disgusting. Not just the repulsive homosexuals, but the insults towards straight people and basic human dignity. Somebody supposedly spent $22 million on this film.
As far as the cast goes, one cast member was on Parks and Rec for a couple years, but I don’t recognize him.
Another of the main cast was in the basic cable TV dhow Killjoys, and I do recognize him.
One of the actresses Monica Raymund, who I recognize from the Starz show Hightown, and a few other shows.
And Guillermo Díaz who I also recognize from some Broadcast TV shows such as Scandal.
Basically, this is the equivalent of an Indy/Art House film, with a gay plot, like Canada used to churn out on a regular basis.
The fact that the film made close to $5 million when most people aren’t even bothering going to film in theaters now is surprising.
The box office is better than the film Jeffrey from 1995, that had a cast with similar fame.
