Never heard that. and I worked with dementia patients for years. Probably what they're doing is learning ways to help Bruce communicate, he's not actually getting better.
For example if you ask someone with Alzheimer's to sing "Old McDonald' they probably just can't. But, if you start singing they might join in very naturally. They didn't get better, you just gave them an alternate way of expressing themselves.

I've seen it. It's not like any other illness. Parts of you die slowly until there's nothing left. It's just as devastating as a fatal heart attack but painfully spread out over years.

You first forget recent stuff then you keep forgetting pretty much everything until you were like 10 yo. You don't get the personality of a 10yo though.
You are conscious of what's happening, you want to remember and you see pictures that now mean nothing to you.

You can't recover from dementia, unfortunately. My dad is currently on palliative care at the hospital after almost dying from pneumonia. He was diagnosed with CJD last year and dementia has eaten his soul away to the core. It's a very cruel death for someone who has always been a good father and husband. But it is what is is.
