As someone who has seen every Showa 'zilla, no, absolutely not, BUT don't discount the whole era.
I find it extremely hard to get into Showa stuff and even I found ones I really liked
    Watch
    >54
    >vs hedorah
    >vs ebirah
    >vs gigan
    >vs megalon
    >anything with mechagodzilla
Personally I'm more of a heisei lads with most of my japanese media

      >vs hedorah
      >vs ebirah
      >vs gigan
      >vs megalon
Interesting choices, guess you like the sillier ones.
I like the more "serious" Showa films like
      >mothra vs
      >ghidorah
      >astro-monster
      >the mechagodzilla duology
I enjoy the silly ones too though.

That might be, I guess I just like anything that's interesting. There's a few stinkers in the zilla filmography
Don't watch the first one with Mothra, where Godzilla spends like 15 minutes fighting larva cum, or All Monsters Attack, which is a beta kid who copes by imagining his bullies as monsters on the island and over the film as he grows Godzilla beats them up
Sounds way more interesting than it is, because there's only about 10 minutes of new footage

          >Don't watch the first one with Mothra
Gotta disagree with you there. Mothra vs is one of the best films in the franchise. I'd watch that any day over the later Showa movies or anything from the Heisei era.

What was the one where he fights the larvae? That one bored me

              >What was the one where he fights the larvae?
Yes, that's the end of the movie.
It's usually seen as one of the better ones, but Godzilla is such a varied franchise that everyone's got different taste.

As long as Millenium and Legendary are at the bottom, I don't care of the order.

I'd put Millennium above Heisei. It has higher highs.

It annoyed me that they retconned a lot, but then they didn't and then they did it again.
Heisei is repetitive but also consistent, I respect that as an era. It also builds up to VS Destoroyah thanks to that, while Final Wars is more of an entire eras package.

The Showa era is overall the best, so that's why you should watch it.
I went into Godzilla expecting to marathon by way through Showa so I could get into Heisei, but ended up enjoying Showa a lot more. The height of the series takes place during Showa while Ishiro Honda was directing.

Seen most of the Godzilla movies and 2014 was one of the weakest.

Yeah, the movie was meh, but anything that has to do with Godzilla himself was top notch (design, scale, effects, etc.), even the sound design was amazing.
And say what you want about the movie, but they shot with the soldiers skydiving with the flares on top of Goji was bretty cool.

You can just watch the essentials.

    Mothra vs. Godzilla
    Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster
    Invasion of Astro Monster
    Destroy All Monsters
    Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
    Terror of Mechagodzilla

The best route is the "watch all of them" one.

How are there more Godzillas if he got killed in the first one? Or is it more because of the radiation there's tons of godzilla eggs or something?

In the Showa and Heisei continuities there's at least 3 Godzillas
      >the original godzilla that gets killed by the oxygen destroyer
      >a second godzilla that appears sometime later (godzilla raids again and return of godzilla)
      >an abandoned infant godzilla that the second godzilla adopts as its own child (minilla and godzilla junior)

One of the very last things said in the first movie is that if mankind continues its nuclear tests, it's quite likely Godzilla or other monsters will continue to appear.

Either 1) There was another Godzilla or 2) He got better.

      Late Showa Godzilla, from
      >destroy all monsters
      >godzilla vs hedorah
      >godzilla vs gigan
      >godzilla vs megalon
      >godzilla vs mechagodzilla
      >terror of mechagodzilla
Actively goes out of his way to save the planet, and teams up with humanity and other monsters to fight his opponents. He's the same Godzilla from Godzilla Raids Again and all the Showa films past that, but it takes a while for him to transform from villain to anti-hero to full on hero.

I thought yesterday was so that's why I went. I missed the scene of G attacking Odo due to a schedule frick up but that was okay because I saw it in December.

I was expecting to be the only one there but there were like three 50 year old women in there. They seemed to enjoy it, I heard them talking about catching Noriko's Godzilla infection this time around

There were even older women in there when I saw it in December. I dunno if they were there because they were Godzilla fans or if they were just bored.

It's the best era tbh. It has the best tone, the best scenarios, and while its continuity is loose compared to Heisei it's fun to see Godzilla go from a tragic aimless monster driven entirely by rage, to a kind father and protector of the Earth.

All Monsters Attack is the only one you can skip, but I'd still recommend you to check it out because the Gabara scenes are funny.

Old as frick ones are better, solely for the fact that the shitty supplemental story is more bearable than what they’ve done now. And it has the occasional hot asian eye candy
