The problem (if there IS a problem, which is debatable) with that is, the kind of cringe oversexed shit you wouldn't want your mom to walk in on you watching can appear anywhere, anytime in anime. Non Non Biyori is a slice-of-life comedy about little girls in the countryside. As wholesome as a warm slice of apple pie. Until the beach episode, in which the entire cast marvels at the size of a 10-year-old's gazongas. Complete with a sparkle background and slow-pan. It's super fricking jarring, and that shit happens in a lot of different genres.

I hadn't noticed your post but I agree. There's something dishonest and inorganic with a lot of the tropes and the "acting" in the context of manga/anime. I don't know if it's the exaggeration but it simply doesn't have the same appeal as the more subdued and authentic western attempts. As for fanservice, I don't have anything against it, although I do find a lot of anime girls oddly asexual in their presentation. Like Peni Parker, to give a western example based on japanese tropes. That to me isn't sexy in the same way a Jessica Rabbit is.

Which one? I ask because PreCure as early as Futari wa always had them fist fighting and avoiding stock footage like other magical girl shows as much as possible for their battles. They've been inconsistent about it after HeartCatch but they've tried to still have actual fighting since it's paired with Super Hero Time (Super Sentai and Kamen Rider).
Parents have always complained about this since Futari wa Pretty Cure, though, because Cure Black punching "can be mimicked by little girls".

The most recent episode introduced a new character who fights the monsters like how any Cure would in a previous season. The MCs don't like this, they try to stop her and say fighting is wrong and it looks like she's going to have a character arc about rejecting her violent ways.
It's not a bad season but it would really benefit from not having the Precure name attached to it.

It's easy to give gays their own show (Genre even) when you come out with 99 other straight shows a year. Western Animation will never match that output. There are parallels to be drawn between superhero stories and the heroes in Greek myth. There are shared archetypes. But cape media isn't as culturally or historically significant as the Illiad even if we were to look at it as a successor.
Can someone enjoy comics more than the Illiad? Yes, many probably do. Doesn't really change anything. And the same goes for anime. But a lot of weebs argue in a way that suggests anime is the best media there ever was or ever will be. It's hard to agree with such a thing if you're being objective.

There's woke anime that has been made. Whether it features all of this at once is a tough question but I also don't watch nearly as much anime as you do. If it was truly as based as you think it is, I'd be watching way more.
My interest is limited only compared to a weeb. I have a life outside of anime/manga/comics/cartoons. It doesn't make me illiterate on the genre.
I just don't think it's nearly as praise worthy as you see it to be. If anime was made in the west you'd understand me immediately because to you this is a west vs east thing first and foremost. PLENTY of that in comics. And even some animation. Anime has been kicking this to the curb too. The last time this was commonplace was in the 90s. Stuff like Ninja Scroll or Genocyber is so fricking rare now it's unreal.

I do like DBZ's aesthetics but I generally prefer western type art. I wouldn't mind japs handling more cape characters, I think it's interesting and has potential, but it also depends on the property.

As a foreigner who experienced Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya as far back as the late 80s, before america did, seeing characters die, bleed or get maimed one way or another was really shocking compared to G.I. Joe or He-Man. I'm not shitting on Cinemaphile material, I'm just giving my childhood account since I feel the reason why DB and Saint Seiya got popular was the shock value that wasn't expected on kids media. Seeing Krillin die the first time or how Hyoga's friend lost his eye by being stabbed by an icecycle at age 5 hits different.
I love how the context of where cartoons were and how they weren't allowed to do much in the 80s compared to Saint Seiya and Dragon Ball in the international scene got ignored ITT.
I was into Dragon Ball as a kid until it became too simplistic for me in terms of plot outside of fighting. Then I moved onto to "picture literature" aka manga and comics. I still like DBZ on a primal level but to pretend it's got more depth than comics would be disingenuous.

There are more genres with more tropes than there are in western animation. I can name plenty of anime that will never have equivalents in western animation. Something like Texhnolyze will never me made in the west. The thing has always been than even if only 10% of both western and eastern animation is good, the east has more variety and more quantity in that 10%.

Why is it wrong to acknowledge both the west and the east have produced decent animated content? There's obviously a higher precedent for that in the east but the east also can't really touch the west (or eastern parts of europe) in terms of live action cinema. Non Non Biyori is a slice-of-life comedy about little girls in the countryside. As wholesome as a warm slice of apple pie. I don't know if it's the exaggeration but it simply doesn't have the same appeal as the more subdued and authentic western attempts. As for fanservice, I don't have anything against it, although I do find a lot of anime girls oddly asexual in their presentation. Like Peni Parker, to give a western example based on japanese tropes. That to me isn't sexy in the same way a Jessica Rabbit is.

Which one? I ask because PreCure as early as Futari wa always had them fist fighting and avoiding stock footage like other magical girl shows as much as possible for their battles. They've been inconsistent about it after HeartCatch but they've tried to still have actual fighting since it's paired with Super Hero Time (Super Sentai and Kamen Rider).
Parents have always complained about this since Futari wa Pretty Cure, though, because Cure Black punching "can be mimicked by little girls".
Wonderful Precure, the newest season, doesn't have traditional fistfights. Instead, they have "chase action" where they chase the monsters around for a little while before using the stock footage finisher.
Now, the reason for this is because the season is themed around animals/pets, so the MOTWs are basically animals possessed by darkness. So you have the two MCs running around and telling these possessed animals to calm down and how they just want to be friends because they don't want to hurt them.
The most recent episode introduced a new character who fights the monsters like how any Cure would in a previous season. The MCs don't like this, they try to stop her and say fighting is wrong and it looks like she's going to have a character arc about rejecting her violent ways.
It's not a bad season but it would really benefit from not having the Precure name attached to it.

I hate anime because all the popular stuff is a billion episodes of filler and powering up. I also don't find japanese humor particularly funny. I think Spy X Family was the last thing I watched that I thought was decent but even it falls into a lot of tropes I hate.

There are parallels to be drawn between superhero stories and the heroes in Greek myth. There are shared archetypes. But cape media isn't as culturally or historically significant as the Illiad even if we were to look at it as a successor.

As a foreigner who experienced Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya as far back as the late 80s, before america did, seeing characters die, bleed or get maimed one way or another was really shocking compared to G.I. Joe or He-Man. I'm not shitting on Cinemaphile material, I'm just giving my childhood account since I feel the reason why DB and Saint Seiya got popular was the shock value that wasn't expected on kids media. Seeing Krillin die the first time or how Hyoga's friend lost his eye by being stabbed by an icecycle at age 5 hits different.
