It's no where near as good as seasons 1-3 and it's ADHD as frick with constant goofy faces and expressions, but at the same time you can clearly tell either the current animation staff is having fun drawing constant goofy out-there stuff that only a show as already as successful as Spongebob would let them. A lot of the show feels like it's in a phase where it's experimenting with how far they can take nautical nonsense.

Steve marmel is already known that he left over creative differences in Danny Phantom season 3, but he had already gone practically MIA in season 5 as Jack Thomas (associating story editor for the season) wrote most of it.
Speaking of Jack Thomas, he was responsible for the massive decline in characterisation of the main cast in season 5 (Timmy le sociopath, Nag AKA Wanda, and Cosmo discount Patrick Star of seasons 6-8). Just look how they act in seasons 4 and 6, then compare it to 5.
