You guys said the same shit about the iPad yet everyone has one now or some tablet in their house. I see Iwatches daily as well. Crying about apple is part of their marketing and to their credit they usually take something that already has potential and perfect it. 10 years from now it will drop down to $999 and have all day battery and you won’t even want a smartphone anymore. Also ask someone already stated, it’s not specifically for gaming. I have a PSVR2 and it’s pretty awesome even though the AAA games are limited. RE Village/8 will give you nightmares.

I don't get what's better about this compared to Quest 3 which also has games, and almost a tenth the cost
Anyway the problem is as impressive as AR can be, there's no point to it. Oh fricking boy I can put some goggles on my face to look at whatever I'd look at on my phone, but less comfortably

      Anonymous

Nobody gives a shit about either of them. 3D is a gimmick. It's a cheap theme park ride, as it always was, and only a tiny minority will spend that much money on the system plus games/vr rollercoasters before they get bored.

      Anonymous

Its Apple, so hipster bugmen who would otherwise ignore it as a gimmick are now embracing it as if VR never existed before.
The best ive heard is that this thing has superior passthrough and a decent resolution. But the fov is still shit.

      >I don't get what's better about this compared to Quest 3 which also has games, and almost a tenth the cost
It serves a totally different purpose to something like the Index or even the Quest line. The precision, latency and fidelity of the video passthrough is head and shoulders above anything else on the market including the Quest 3 which was a massive improvement over the Quest 2. Think of it as an alternative to one or multiple monitors for productivity, rather than a gaming accessory. That's the demographic they're going for.

Passthrough with Quest 3 is like watching 360p youtube. You can see things, but also not really any details. With Apple it's supposed to be way sharper so you can wear it constantly. Still the issue of looking like a freak in public. But for work in offices I feel it's pretty useful.

        Anonymous

no it's not. I have a quest 3. It's fine. I also never use it because who cares. Exactly like the Apple goggles except with less buyers remorse because it was a lot cheaper.

I would not pay thousands of dollars for improved passthrough. It's already fine lmao

          Anonymous

          >I also never use it because who cares
Everyone. Passthrough is the whole point. No one gives a shit about VR, they just want big screens they can put anywhere while still being able to see where their cereal bowl is.

            Anonymous

            that's literally the Quest 3

          Anonymous

          >no it's not.
By comparison yes it is. You really need to get ahold of a pair of the things to see for yourself. I for one am not going to waste my money on a pair but you're delusional if you think Apple's foreground and spatial processing for passthrough isn't head and shoulders above the Quest 3. It makes the Quest 3's passthrough look downright amateurish and it was a significant improvement over the 2.

            Anonymous

I'm sure it's better, I just don't see how making it better makes a difference or a new product, nevermind for 5x the cost

              Anonymous

Because making it work seamlessly without the funky warping the Quest is still subject to means you can market the things to people who aren't autistic morons like us who can look past those imperfections. It makes it feasible to market it as an alternative to monitors altogether while being able to bake in all the vr gimmicks that exist on other headsets. Virtual workstations is the reason I've been following vr development for the past decade in the first place. I'm probably never going to buy appleshit but I can appreciate that the product is moving the whole sector in the direction I want.

              >6 front cameras behind plastic
they wont see shit with scratches

I really don't feel like getting rid of the warping is the thing holding AR back compared to other, bigger, hard to quantify issues like:
After the initial "oh that's cool" wears off, no one wants to walk around with an annoying paperweight on their head making them unable to scratch their nose, just so they can do what they could do on their phone

But I may be wrong, apple is a billion dollar company and I am not.

The passthrough blows and is probably the worst part. It is not really even usable as an AR device it looks like apple skimped and out one of those 480p webcams in the fricking unit the footage is atrocious I was sitting in an apple store look outside. This should look better than reality with hdr etc. the part that takes you out is any real world shit.
Everything else is on point. The virtual screens look sharper than 4k. The real world looks like trash.

Let's just be honest here, the average apple vision pro enjoyer is a happy married man who owns a house while quest users eat from dumpsters. Anyone asking about why it costs 10x as much is just a seething poor.

THe most interesting thing I have seen with Vision Pro was that a guy walked around his house and had various windows pinned for various tasks. I think its greatest potential is as replacement for multi-monitor workflows...things like air traffic control, oil rig steering etc. If the get it down to a reasonable set of glasses, that stuff would be pretty cool. Also, the clicking with your fingers thing is apparently surprisingly good. I could also see that being developed independently and then you could have hand tracking on regular monitors Minority Report style. That would be pretty cool.

        Anonymous

Yeah but I can already do all that with the Quest 3 and I don't because of the friction of putting a thing on my face to do it
Better passthrough won't change any of the reasons I never bother on my quest 3.

Again, it's "this is really cool but I'm never going to actually use it unless I'm showing it so someone to show them how cool it is" tier. Like all of VR/AR.

It will be used more in the future though. But lol at spending 3k bucks on this.

Zuckerberg already found out that focusing on the work application for VR is completly moronic

No company is gonna bother spending 3500 on this to replace multiple monitors(which are already way cheaper now).

The only ones who would buy something like this are gamers.

Yea, I guess were developing it for military.
Weird they didn't try to make a commercial product. Maybe their software wasn't quite up to snuff.
Really the only supposed gamechanger for the Vision is not needing dongles. The AR thing is meh

Jesus Christ why the frick would I want that? Have you see the average woman outside?

You're not thinking enough, just tweak the settings and suddenly every girl is a 10/10 outside.

You will be able to make every single girl have massive breasts bouncing up and down as they walk if you want. Hell, you will be able to put bazooka breasts on dudes if you're that much of a brainrotten coomer.

Yup. Smartphone picture apps already allow you to literally delete unwanted people from pictures, you will be able to do this with VR and AI in real time.

Remove every single man from your field of vision. Don't see at a single fat person ever again etc

It's so weird to see Cinemaphile full of people pushing AGAINST technological advancement. Some of you gays would have been the same people saying cars will never replace horses or that there is no better medical procedure than leeches or computers will never fit in anything other than a warehouse. Stop being so short sighted and small minded.

VR won't go anywhere until we have something like an e-ink display. Conventional displays aren't safe to use for long sessions, and most manufacturers have warned users to limit sessions to 25 minutes with at least a half hour break between. The way forward is traditionally shaped glasses that let the face breathe and are easily removed, and used sparingly as a supplemental add-on for other media, e.g. worldmap and inventory screens, face lookup in movies, a quick video call while working, driving directions and safety alerts that allow you to maintain focus on the road, and of course surreptitious porn breaks. Being able to watch porn on the plane without anyone knowing you're doing it will be a game changer. Let the coomers frick their eyes up, no one else wants their face in a scuba mask for three hours.

Give us a nice quick color e-ink display and we can talk feature length VR. Not until.

Apple aren't positioning it as a VR headset (even though it is one).
Their end goal is to make holo-lens style AR glasses, but that's still a decade away, it could be done but it would be far too expensive at the moment (even for Apple).
That's why the main way you use it is passthrough with floating windows and they have that weird eye-sight external display, because they want to make it seem transparent.
