Nope. Just enjoy the couple times something ambitious leaks through brought down by it being made in California and having their shitty quirks in writing and designs anyway.
It's part of American Culture, like people are finding it weird but they should know it's part of American culture.
>it has to be like nuspongebob where they make moronic faces every 2 seconds or else it's not funny!
i hate twatter
they could just make serious stories with beautiful visuals instead of just comedies
That shit's shounenshit for babies into anime, not real animation like Family Guy.
They’ve tried, multiple times (very recently too) and it almost always fails to get an audience. The only non-failure I can think of was Primal.
well recently invincible
Scavenger's Reign?
That had an audience? Do people even remember it a month later?
Sure. I’m writing a fanfiction of Azi and the robot 🙂
It would help if they stopped filling shows with gays
This. First seasons of Young Justice, recent Voltron, and Legend of Korra were goddamned successful when they aired. Follow-up seasons added gender and religion politics and shit the bed. Every fricking time.
Original Young Justice got canned, and it would be a stretch to say gay muslim alien was responsible for the entire DCU and HBO streaming services getting bought out and butchered.
Korra didn't become gay until the very last second of the last episode, after Nick had already taken it off television.
There’s a post that might be fake saying season 5 if yj is approved but it has a few things wrong with it
those shows were/went to shit for reasons far removed from having gay stuff and, with the exception of voltron, remained very obviously popular throughout their run.
Viewership for YJ tanked in S4. Barely anyone was talking about it other than to say how bad it had gotten.
Korra's whole last season was dumped on an app.
And all anyone talked about in the Voltron threads was gay shit.
It was more for action scenes than the plot or deep topics like japanese animation that primal was popular
Primal didn't get nearly the attention a masterwork like that deserves. Genndy is a fricking legend.
stop posting animeshit gay
>stop posting the number 1 contributor to adult animation
Why?
This always fails because animation fans would rather cream over Puss n Boots, Bluey, tranime, and other shit for kids.
pedophiles are no tastes
shut up
>he has to post old anime
lol
lmao even
this shows the state of modern eastern anime being garbage
He could have posted odd taxi for a modern one.
mid taxi got boring in 2 episodes, i can't fathom how people watched all of that
Most people are not zoomers which lack attention span. Your generation is awful.
>Most people are not zoomers
Day of the Pillow soon
Here!
good choice, Mob is always the first show I tell people to try. IF they don't like it I tell them anime isn't for them and they probably shouldn't try any others.
so are backgrounds the standard of good adult animation?
This is a waste of resources that could be put somewhere else. Good thing AI will replace background artists in 1-2 years.
We can't have beautiful animation because of unions. They make such animation too expensive. That's why most of it is outsourced to Korea & even Japan.
So you're saying that Japan's labor laws are better?
No, I'm saying you can't have the beautiful animation anymore because it's too expensive. Unions are what killed the 1940s golden years of animations
It's not animation that's gotten too expensive, it's the expected profit returns and bonuses that have gotten too expensive.
this is why adaptations are so big
they're only reliable way to get a project made
look at anime or netflix
like literally all anime is some kind of adaptation of something with like a handful of them being original projects
a shit ton of shows on netflix are also adaptations of some kind
Exactly. Instead of screeching at workers wanting more and unionizing/striking or customers having demands about (subjective) quality, we should make peace with the fact that a system where what and how is created is 99.99% decided based on whether an investor will make the most for his buck and the top levels of management will get the fattest of bonuses isn't one that leads to results most of us want.
It's not the unions that need a leash and it's not the customers that need to shut up.
It's the rich pricks up top that need a muzzle.
As usual.
Why do indie cartoons suck?
The ones that are usually memes and are shorter allow for more detail. Fox in space was really good. Mostly they like to drag something out for longer to say it's full length
A lot of the old guard left or don't upload that often and now it's mostly Xitter artists looking for a quick buck
I agree that a large part of the problem is those with the most money to go around, but part of the issue absolutely is the artists themselves, unions, and the consumers. We might extend it further to other facets of our society, even. It's a tight net of problems, that is modern society.
For producing art? Clearly they are. Not all studios are sweatshops, the culture varies a lot because Japanese studios are, by and large, independently owned and operated.
Also a big reason why animation budgets are so expensive in the west is a huge amount of redundant labor and corporate bloat.
>corporate bloat.
aka diversity hires
arguably he's saying they are worse kek
Not Japan. They produce beautiful animation. Korean studios half-ass it in most cases.
what the frick do you even mean? they work the animators to the bone in nipland I would say that means they have shit-tier labor laws
The leftoids & SJWs who run the American studios are too thin-skinned & moronic to make a serious story with beautiful visuals. The left can't draw shit.
>the left can't draw shit
>this said in response to a togashi collage
here's your (you), have a nice day
I'm just going to tell you this weeb, there's no place in America that looks like any of those, of which is just the same location in Tokyo
It's literally just browns and greys, why lie about this when what you want is anti American?
Not even anime looks like this anymore. You lost
You clearly haven't seen enough anime. Even the newer anime still have beautiful backgrounds & aesthetics, while westernoids draw backgrounds are dull & flat.
>hiatus x hiatus
Who the frick said that
who in the frick are you quoting lad
found the bento box ceo
>everything has to be black or white
Welcome to Cinemaphile co.
man old simpsons was so kino
No point in trying to save studios that are built around shitty systems
Like a condemned building, you just blow it up
Shut up animation student
Your shtick is also awfully dated since invincible already became a success with significantly better animation - guess you just can't draw?
I got you bro
Dude at least the animation is soulful and rubbery. What other show would have this much you know animation in a scene. Its frame by frame not puppety or etc.
Animating the left with cels would be a fricking nightmare unless it was a movie budget.
>right
SOVL cel animation
>left
soulless tweening animation
>tweening
It's hand drawn
I don't think it's tweening but yeah, it's soulless.
It looks like it's trying to hard to look good, if that makes any sense.
The frick is even supposed to be happening on the left?
Everything.
>Ren and Stimpy can do this type of animating but god forbid spongebob do it
Be honest and just say you just don't like new seasons of old things
>humble simplistically animated cartoon?
>make it an overanimated grossout fest
>edgy off-model animated cartoon?
>make it a tweened cut and dry slideshow
What causes suits to think like this, and homosexuals like you to suck them off for it?
>Ren and Stimpy can do this type of animating but god forbid spongebob do it
This is true. Spongebob was never meant to be a R&S ripoff, and it's not even good at being that.
It feels so awful seeing something meant to be self-containing and calm be turned into some adhd trash.
>it has to be like nuspongebob
That's an extreme example. I like nuSpongeBob because it's the only place where cartoonists get to cut loose anymore, but it's like being allowed to speak freely after being muzzled for years: you just say fricking everything to unload all that built-up energy.
If the medium was in a healthy state, we would see tons of subtle, but expressive animation, like what Chuck Jones did or what anime usually does.
left-right schizo
Indies are saving it, Digital Circus proves it.
Digital Circus proves that indie animation is dead
>it's one extreme or the other, no middle ground
When are your parents breaking the news that you're moronic?
Anon, those extremists are the ones running things.
These are some entry level series recs for adult cartoons fans that haven't yet tried adult anime since you homosexuals always complain about the state of adult animation.
Sci-fi: Cowboy Bebop, GITS:SAC, Planetes, Space Pirate Captain Harlock, LOTGH, Kaiba, Lain/Texhnolyze, Last Exile
Psychological stuff: Tatami Galaxy, Haibane Renmei, Welcome to the N.H.K.
Fantasy: 90s Berserk, Aria, Kino's journey, Moribito Guardian of the Spirit, Mononoke, Spice and Wolf
>LOTGH
when people only post the acronym of something my brain tries to fill in the blanks itself. what i got was legend of the gidden hemple.
people shit on bento box but they have been trying bit by bit within the tight adult animation margins. Duncanville in particular.
People shit on Bento Box because all they make is shit. At least Family Guy was funny at one point and so was American Dad. Hazbin Hotel will unironically be their best looking show and even that will fall flat because Viv isn’t a good writer.
Reminder that Police Squad got canceled because it required the audience to actually watch the show. Imagine now that people usually text or check tik toks while watching a movie.
Yep. Same with Arrested Development where you had to see and remember the earlier episodes to really get the jokes in later ones because they kept building on the jokes.
>Imagine now that people usually text or check tik toks while watching a movie.
Are you kidding? Binge culture is fricking huge right now. If anything, people want MORE inside jokes and reoccurring gags in their shows.
>Imagine now that people usually text or check tik toks while watching a movie.
The people that do this do it on cinema while actual fans binge watch their favorite show with their eyes glued to the screen so they don't miss out on an minor detail that may be foreshadowing or some BS like that.
I remember the creators saying they were half-glad they got cancelled because they were already running out of ideas by the end of the first season.
>Here is my interpretation of shit no one has actually said but I can say it was!
Yawn. They can stay unemployed.
In the corporate world what people actually say is typically a load of bullshit designed to please HR and the lawyers. How young are you
Not many of them are actually capable of making animations that appeals to people, and so need to be on board the sinking ships of big corporate studios that don't make many waves anymore
I'll never understand why these animators don't Ralph Bakshi this shit. They'll complain about the animation industry. But despite how much easier it's gotten to animate, with digital, CG and the internet, they'll never get eight guys together to make a half hour story outside the industry they say they hate so much.
The guy in the OP does that already.
Unless he's done some independent projects recently, it seems like as Aaron could get onboard corporate funded animation that's exactly what he did. Independent animation is used as a stepping stone more than something to aspire to.
Aaron literally just moved back to Toronto because he's stepping back from the industry to focus on indie stuff.
they are, thats partially why the industry is struggling
>I'll never understand why these animators don't Ralph Bakshi this shit
Because even tho they're good artists they're mostly likely terrible entrepreneurs. The guys running those animation studios may not have an animation degree but they have a MBA and plenty of money to greenlight those projects.
Those guys complain about the industry yet they don't have the guts to follow in the footsteps of successful indie animators making millions from kickstarter, patreon and merchandise.
>Vivzie POOP
>Tracy BUTTler
>Rippa Off (he got an animation studio too)
>The troony that created the clown world deathgame
>Murderdrones schizo
Plenty of new guys showing that it's possible to quit the animation industry and make it on your own.
They are. Indie Animation is slowly taking off.
We've had an incredible output of adult animation in the last few years that DON'T look like Family Guy compared to the 2005 - 2015 era which was fricking nothing but that style.
I need to rewatch Arcane
Clone high reboot was terrible, I couldn’t finish it. I never saw clone high before so I watched the first season to catch up to the reboot and the first season is so much better. Immediately going into the reboot, everything takes a nose dive. Though I do think Frida has the only good new design.
Okay now remove the adaptations and revivals.
The animation industry is dead.
>clone high season 2
>incredible
Good one
Read the whole post and then come back instead of getting triggered because you see a show you dislike.
I watched
>Invincible
>Arcane
>Castlevania
I'm about to watch
>Hit Monkey
>Primal
>Love Death Robots
What am I in for?
Primal is really good with a shit ending
As per usual with Genndy
>Primal is really good with a shit ending
Is the end so bad that it ruins the show (like AOT) or can I enjoy the journey just fine? I'm a huge fan of Gendy so I might watch it anyway.
If you felt no disappointment from the SJ ending then you're already numb to it.
>If you felt no disappointment from the SJ ending then you're already numb to it.
Fair enough then I'm gonna put Primal on the top of my list, thank you anon(s) and if you guys have more adult animation recs please send em my way I also watched and liked Vox Machina.
Primal is probably the single best piece of animation of the past decade. The ending is weak, but the journey is so perfect up to that point that I don't even care.
The journey starts slacking off right before the ending shits the bed.
>Invincible season 2
>Adding Clone High Season 2
There was only one good episode in that entire thing and it was unironically the one that focused on Butlertron of all people.
don't forget Pantheon
>korean bootleg anime
>korean bootleg anime that is an adaptation of yet another supehero comic, though at least it isn't marvel dc
>good
>good
>lol
>reboot
>good
>mixed bag
>good
>good
>lastman not featured
Bro.
Pantheon would probably deserve a mention too.
If we're JUST talking about art style, or basically any cartoon that doesn't look like Family Guy, I certainly missed a bunch. There were some I intentionally left off like Harley Quinn and Velma because even though those have different art styles, people would see that, not read the message and go, "YOU THINK THOSE SHOWS ARE GOOD???.
>There were some I intentionally left off like Harley Quinn and Velma because even though those have different art styles, people would see that, not read the message and go, "YOU THINK THOSE SHOWS ARE GOOD???.
It's pretty obvious at this point that they don't want adult animation to succeed
castlevania sucks ass and archer really went downhill somewhere before, during and after vice
>castlevania sucks ass
Sure it does but it's still better drawn and more popular than 99.9% of all Burguer cartoons, specially the adult "comedy" ones.
Yes, Japan saves it every time they release a Suzume or a Boy and the Heron. :3
yes
Which person would frame a picture of themselves being serious and apatic?
i like aaron long but i think it’s kinda funny he’s sorta pretentious but the show he ultimately ended up making was… sublo and tangy mustard
That show has great character acting, though. Tangy Mustard doesn't even emote with his face and he still has great poses.
I really like Sublo and Aaron does have some based opinions but he's a total fricking hypocrite. He props himself up as a 'rebel' of the industry and a savior of indie animation despite having 10+ years industry experience and adamantly refusing to leave the system despite b***hing about it 24/7. Anytime people question this he always gives the same chickenshit excuse of "b-but muh money! I need money too!" Well then maybe you shouldn't have moved to Burbank you fricking dumbass. Also people voluntarily leave the industry all the time, Walrusguy did it, he just can't commit to changing the industry or leaving it so all he does is b***h about it.
I can't understand why he hasn't abandoned the system yet. It's over, I left a year ago, find good smart indie projects and work on them, or start them yourself. If you need a paycheck make a patreon or whatever and make money off personal work.
>I can't understand why he hasn't abandoned the system yet.
In the anniversary panel for Tangy mustard, it's revealed that he's gone freelance, no longer an animation director. Gotta make money for the apartment and girlfriend and then put time aside for the real stuff
The Family Guy/South Park revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.
people are just stupid anon
and social media brought that out into the open
Sethtoons were the worst thing to happen to television/
Didn't Aaron Long throw a tantrum beacuse Looney Tunes and Batman having preschool shows
And?
It's the only way to have 24 fully animated half hour episodes made in 5 months time in any affordable way. To make everything talky and the characters only move left and right.
Keep in mind 80% of the budget is going to the actors.
Just watch anime
Family Guy would not be More Funny if it animated like Tiny Toons.
I miss old Family Guy
Question. Why do you care now and not 10 years ago?
There's been a large increase of action and dramatic adult animation recently to the point where Adult Comedies are being left in the dust due to executives and modern writers.
I'd love another wave of low-budget crude experimental shows that just want to make people laugh instead of trying to be the next Bojack Horsman or another safe BobsBurgers-like
It's still weird to think that some of the most distinctive TV cartoons ever made were for MTV.
The problem with that image is that its only applicable to a handful of adult animated SITCOMS. Things that are heavily dependant on the writing and not the animation.
cherry picking is what this place does best
You are justifying their bad rules according to their bad rules. Japan has plenty of animated series for adults with good drawing, the comedic ones too. The Flintstones had good drawing on an extreme budget. These just don't even want to try
"Writing" without good animation is just a radio show, not animation
Lol you have to cherry pick to find shows people care about
>Author's Barely Disguised Fetish: The Show
barely?
same as every industry
take everyone above a certain point in the company, fire them with no severance, and never refill those positions since they never served any purpose.
How to save animation in the west:
>make animation studios independent from network companies, streaming platforms, and major production studios
>all animation projects are now collaborations between independent studios and distributors
>cap budgets for animation projects at $50 million
there, it's saved
but how do you change the culture to take animation more seriously
my boomer mom hates anything that's animated
sacrifice the old to Mickey Mouse
let her die, new generations fill the gap
/prebeg/ tier level artists run the animation industry, & they draw worst than John K. Just look at oddsoneout1s as an example. Dude got his web series green-lit into a TV show.
Welcome to Clown World
It will never be saved but it will probably never truly die because sometimes good stuff actually slips by the radar. Once in a while by accident.
Is this the only show that did it right?
Yes.
No. Adult animation is all about keeping costs low as much as possible since then you can make a profit with the only people watching bring passed out drunk
>Can adult animation be saved?
No, there is nothing physically stopping them but there is a psychic barrier. When people talk about the "curse" or "even breaking a curse", it gives it power. Saying that you "break the curse" acknowledges that it exist which it doesn't. Back then the Simpsons used to be called "Adult Animation".
>last of us
>videogame adaptation
TLOU literally just wants to be a tv show
Hitman already broke the curse.
The curse never existed in the sense that magic doesn't fricking exist. Hitman "breaking the curse" implies that Hitman did anything special.
>"Video games are not art."
>"Animation is for kids."
>"Comics is just about superheroes."
These are just brainworms in mind of Americans that manage to do more damage when people actively try to remove them.
>implies that Hitman did anything special
It held up both financially and artistically, proving there are no actual problems with video game adaptations. The real problem is licensing.
>Just make The Last of Us in life action, but worse than the original game
Somehow the only good episode was about gay Ron Swanson.
>quirky tiktok/tumblr shit with porn & fanart bait
>family guy sitcom #8483726148281
>calarts wholesome queerbaby
>woke wanime + IP rape
Lookin' bright boys
Sounds more like they don't want to pay for visual humor.
However the best adult animation comedies use (or used at their peak) visual comedy all the time.
Family Guy, Rick and Morty, and Bento Box ruined adult animation
Family Guy seasons 1-3 are kino
There's artist hubris, animator hubris.. but writer hubris is the most destructive one.
That applies to all cartoons not just adult ones.
Matt Groening
Scott Pilgrim breaks this, but it will be regarded as an "anime" for the simple fact that the animation studio is japanese. But in my eyes this is a western adult cartoon and what the industry should target.
I don't care how many times you shill it, I'm not watching anything Scott Pilgrim related
>adult animation
You mean animated comedy
You mean American Adult Animation. And no. Because americans are hopeless.
You wouldn't do better if you where in their place
what if cartoon say fart?
Pull the plug.
Reset.
Is there any profession with bigger egos than writing? MMA maybe? But that’s probably iy
This show is getting a bit of buzz, not to mention stuff like Arcane as well and despite... quality... castlevania has pierced the normalgay sphere.
I think adult animation is getting there to break the mold, you just gotta look a bit more. Now if netflix can stop killing shows that'll be just peachy.
