The air nomads being hippies is a minor retcon since Guru Pathik told Aang he'd become more spiritually attuned if he gave up his worldly connections, this was also emphasized by Zaheer letting go of his love for P'Li in order to ascend (literally and figuratively of course), so it would make more sense that there were airbenders who were more like regular villagers that later chose to adopt a spiritually enlightened lifestyle. Otherwise romance, on top of the gender segregation, would be discouraged. It could be that the air nomads would practice romantic sexuality where they make close connections to their peers, you could slip that in.
As for the nomads and their connection to their bison, the animals are part of nature and help them understand airbending to an extent, so it fits with their ideology.

Because it's difficult to write aang proactively persuing a harem in a way that wouldn't be totally ooc, and there's almost no characters in the show he could be plausibly paired with anyway.
You could do an interesting angle with it if you played up Katara in the proactive role - her tribe was nearly wiped out so she empathizes and recognizes the importance of Aang reviving his people (even if it means the guy she loves sleeping with and impregnating other women) and takes on an active role in both convincing Aang to do it and recruiting women into the harem. The plot then is less focused on Aang and more on Katara in her role as the recruiter and having to figure out the best angle of attack for each Avatar girl (ex. with Toph she might play up her having a crush on Aang, Suki she might pressure with some BS about the Kyoshi warriors needing to serve the Avatar, with Azula she might blackmail or threaten her, and Ty Lee might just be totally on board with it. Katara’s arc is her going from reluctantly pushing the idea to, by the end, actively enjoying the dominant role she takes on.
Would make for some good cuckquean/assisted sex content.

Bruh, I think people would be fine with condemning Azula if, given a chance to heal and reform, she rejected it like Dio Brando or The Joker. But she has not been given a chance to heal since the Fire Nation's systemic abuse in its asylums made her condition worse and the only reason why she was able to go on the Search free and with dignity before escaping was because she blackmailed Zuko with Ursa's location and Zuko and co. went along with it.
Not the Gaang, outside of Zuko, wanted to considering it is all but said that life in prison is her punishment for her war crimes, and so she was never expected to be released.
