>Can literally upload anything you want as long as it doesn't break ToS or copyright, in any resolution, going all the way up to 8K
>An entire suite of consumer friendly software suites and cheap hardware for making short films, skits, animations, etc.
>90% of videos are STILL just a person talking against a blank background, or showing their computer screen
>Most editing is STILL frontloaded before the rest of the video is unrelated B-roll, shilling for products and begging for engagement
>MILLIONS of completely unedited podcasts, Twitch streams and live recordings clogging up the servers to this day

The craziest thing about YouTube to me is how boring most people on it really are. I'm not talking about the corporations and larger youtubers who have to appease advertisers and algorithms, I mean everyone else. This platform has some creative, artistic, enthralling stuff but the overwhelming vast majority of it is complete and utter trash, because no one really wants to make videos, they just want to make 'content.' Almost everything I watch feels like it has no staying power anymore. I used to always have the urge to watch videos twice or even thrice, now it's all one-and-done slop, because there's no real meat, nothing being said. The whole platform feels inert because of this.

my sister pays some Indian $5 an hour to edit her 10 hour colony sim gameplay footage.
that's because the youtube coaching service she paid to make her famous didn't update their "premium" editing software tutorials, so she had to look for their tech support (it's a discord server) to figure out how to upload.
I told her she was being scammed but that means I'm a toxic person or something so she just ignores me now.
    >stream keeps buffering
    >ask her what she's doing
she's so fricking stupid they convinced her to pay for cloud storage for ALL her unedited files.
she records everything at max and uploads it all.

there are tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, all doing exactly what she's doing, all desperate for a way to not have to work.
just get a fricking job ffs.

It's because of advertisers. Even if you don't care about advertisers, if you for example say suicide in your video, it won't be promoted so no one will see it unless you already have your audience, and even then it might not be shown to them. It creates a sterile environment that doesn't reward genuine exploration of creativity, it rewards sanitized consistency. How long before youtube will start censoring "unalive" that replaced suicide? Unalive is now unironically used by zoomers in regular conversations because of this issue, we are really closer to 1984's newspeak than we were 20 years ago.

Out of curiosity, and because YT finally brought back the sort videos by oldest function, I went to a bunch of clickbait channels and looked at their oldest videos before they started with the clickbait, and it's very often Arabs or Vietnamese people. It's hard to describe, just check these examples out:

Youtube died when it started paying people. Once payment is involved it's a race to the bottom of the barrel just like every other industry. You should upload videos for the love, not for money. Capitalism strikes again.

Not true. Even before it was paying its creators they were financially compensated by other means (sponsoring, network groups). Youtube simply made it official without any middleman, and the middleman is still present. The problem is that now the face of youtube is basically cable tv, the soulless late night shows and news people ran away from, and that has nothing to do with youtube ads.

Well if you put in the investment, time, and effort to produce a legitimate movie, the last thing you would ever do is self-publish it on YouTube. You would take it to a proper distributor who would market it accordingly, and distribute it to the proper theaters and streaming services so you could make an actual profit. At most you'd sell it to YouTube for their actual movie section, not a self-upload.

Mr Beasts videos are all style no substance and they literally frontload their budget to the beginning since they know kids will click off after 30 seconds if there isn't a big explosion or something. The sets he makes are always scuffed, there's always corners cut and the entire pacing is designed to feel like something cool is gonna happen just to be boring every time. It's completely artificial.

there was this shitty band in my town, no one knew about them, they never played for a live audience, they just released a lot of albums, both covers and original songs. me and my friends found it hilarious and created a parody band, we were shitty on purpose and tried to imitate their sound.
we have around 1k visits on each of the videos we uploaded because people like to laugh at terrible things.
I have another channel where I upload my short films and not a single one of them has more than 200 views.
they're not good either but at least Im trying there. and I dont plan on becoming famous or making that my job but if I make things and put them out there I'd like it if more people watched it.

This is either an extremely circuitous way to lie about being in a band which makes bad music, or you and your entire friend group is a bunch of homosexuals.

I make short films. They might get a couple of hundred views.
Audiences don't want thought out curated videos. They want content to appease their boredom.
Whether that's quick information or funny jokes, that's what they want. Not a 5 minute tracking shot of someone walking down a beautiful hallway to represent the character's metaphorical descent into hell.
The ultimate pill to swallow is that "high art" isn't special. Different people appreciate different things. Something being more niche doesn't make it more valuable.

    >>Can literally upload anything you want as long as it doesn't break ToS or copyright, in any resolution, going all the way up to 8K
So what, you actually have to use valuable time and effort to create a video people want to watch in the first place.
    >>An entire suite of consumer friendly software suites and cheap hardware for making short films, skits, animations, etc.
You what? No one actually uses any of that shit. Everyone has an offline adobe workflow and just use youtube for the final step of uploading. You have more creative control over your own files this way, and it's not like youtube's method is more convenient or better than dedicated tools.
    >>Most editing is STILL frontloaded before the rest of the video is unrelated B-roll, shilling for products and begging for engagement
of completely unedited podcasts, Twitch streams and live recordings clogging up the servers to this day
    Creating content takes WORK.
These people are trying to do it for a living.
The economy is in the shitter no one can afford to just waste time for shits and giggles, except for kids.
