thats literally it, theres no other message being put out
its shit and only shocking if you're a literal child
The gore is just surface level. The story varies from author to author so the reasoning behind the sex and gore is different.
thats how normal christians realy are , or anyone who bellieve in jesus

Anon, every comic by AVATAR PRESS is EDGY for the sake of EDGY.
I dont really consume any media that much so Im quite illiterate in that regard
Hey, i liked uber
Second such a fun series wish avatar would stop being a homosexual and pay the author for the ending
Hard to pay for shit when you're bankrupt
man that company is so weird its bankrupt but refuses to file for it or print new things. i just want to read the end of it reeeeeeeeeeeee
The speedster with a knife against the heavily armoured dude was a great scene.
You just had to go and remind me we will never get a proper ending for this kino, right?
>it was pressumed uber was dead
>but this was indeed, false
BOOM were gonna get another revamp
im hoping anyways i know the guy loves to do asspulls
Kieron Gillen is one of the few writers who knows how to genuinely horrify a reader and not just shock a reader. Uber works because it shows how World War 2 would have actually gone down if Superpowers were real and the violence and body horror serves that point. Not so much for Crossed or Neonomicon.
Somewhat
Ennis got the idea while he was reading Amnesty International reports on warcrimes and torture for research, so I think the point is shining a light on the nastier side of human nature, as everything these seemingly impossibly evil comic book zombies do a real human has probably done to someone before at some stage (other than jack off onto bullets to use them as STD delivery systems, maybe).
I appreciate the series for being a baseline for peak edge and bad end, so if anyone ever says of another comic "its unrealistic they'd survive, the whole cast should just die horribly" or "they should make a comic where the zombies also rape lol" I can just point them to Crossed.
And there's a few good stories in there, like the webcomic, Smokey's arc in Badlands or some of the Crossed 100 stuff.
Crossed taught me that stories where the villains win can be pretty boring if not executed right.
>(other than jack off onto bullets to use them as STD delivery systems, maybe).
I doubt that would work but I do not for a second doubt it's been done before.
would that do anything? wouldn't the fluids just evaporate under the gunpowder and velocity?
Wouldn't do much, no, soldiers and gangsters aren't exactly the brightest. Speaking of fluids on bullets, I recall a Mythbusters episode about some civil war dude getting shot in the nuts, then the sperm somehow "riding the bullet" into the womb of a girl nearby.
The spinoff series where the Crossed are slowly becoming "the good guys" according to the narrative was really moronic too.
>(other than jack off onto bullets to use them as STD delivery systems, maybe)
Apparently gangsters used to coat bullets with garlic as they believed it would increase the chance of an infection, is that close enough?
There was also rumors of soldiers who go and fight Muslims dip their bullets in pig fat.
to shit on christian parenting groups who hate comics and all violent media by accelerating the frack out of it and clown on all zombieshit fans
It's Ennis, so absolutely.
It's vaguely Anti-Christian with a side exploring general human nature but the "points" in these psycho-virus stories tend to be completely overshadowed by the ultraviolence.
The logical end point of humans are the real monsters-subgenre of zombie fiction.
I always thought how contagious the Crossed were kind of killed the horror, when they catch you you get infected almost immediately and then actually enjoy them raping and torturing you, unlike getting eaten alive by regular zombies
There's a Taiwanese horror movie called the Sadness, based on Crossed, but the main giveaway besides the behavior change is that the infected start crying uncontrollably, and the reason for it being that they're fully aware of how horrifying their actions are but they are physically incapable of restraining themselves instead of just giving in to the horror.
I am not sure which one is worse.
I guess if a stranger is doing the torture rape it will be worst if they enjoy it like normal crossed but if a family member or friend is doing then the criers or whatever sounds worst
> the Sadness
God that movie was ass.
its been decades hack ennis still not reveal the origin of crossed virus
It was implied to come from a demon infecting a tribe of red skinned proto humans but then that was implied to to be a hallucianation
>decades
Crossed started in 08
Artist's reason: Like we're all just animals torturing each other man, and "christian" soccer moms are-
Actual reason: It breathed life into the boring zombie genre and introduced normies to gore porn
It didn't breath life into the zombie genre. 28 Days Later did that. Crossed is just a clone of that much better idea.
there hasn't been a comic as good as Crossed within its genre, that's just a fact. people in this thread might take offense with the general themes, but the reality is no comic series has taken the risks Crossed did. if you're reading it for a profound dissection of human nature or some kind of cryptic cerebral message... well, why are you reading comic books in the first place? Crossed is gory, engaging, dismal, and a hell of a lot of fun to read.
t. a month or two ago i spend a week reading the entire Crossed catalog for the second time
the Crossed comics are surprisingly not that edgy. but Avatar Press fell for the variant covers meme and they put out like 10 different covers per issue comissioning artists to just draw gore and that's where most of the perceived edginess
some comics are better than others, but for instance Ennis' own runs are about the people trying to survive the fricked up world, focus is very little on the shock factor
>the Crossed comics are surprisingly not that edgy.
I dunno man, I think when most people think of Crossed being edgy they're thinking of one of the earliest comics where the idiot dad tries to ward off the Crossed with a salt circle only for him and his wife to be raped to death while his daughter gets ripped in half.
and ennis said that was deliberately to show why they were afraid of the crossed, and that after that there was no need to do anything of the sort again, which he didn0t
>focus is very little on the shock factor
While I agree the focus isn't entirely on shock, saying there is "very little" is just objectively wrong. (Dolphin blowhole, bone up the ass, horsewiener, etc etc etc).
I like those front pages that have infected hot ladies. Especially that one with the hunter looking lady with the blonde hair, green jacket, and huge boobs.
>dude, what if zombies were also super sadists!?
Once you learn that mad hummies that want to kill you are worse than slow rotting corpses that want to bite you, you cant go back to enjoying the corpses stories
I could, I found about the WWZ book after the Crossed and enjoyed that way more. That said homocidal maniacs are way scarier than brainless biters
I actually like gore for gores sake and really wildly over the top pants-on-head fun violence.
Is there anything that tops crossed for this though? I think its the top of the list for this kind of stuff.
I wanna get more ridiculous though, any ideas?
it was supposed to be a fresh air from "normal" zombie fiction but then it unironically turned into the same shit.
so you did get the point.
for me it's utter shit like everything Ennis writes. Boggles the mind how he came up with something so great like Punisher Max, though Parlov was a great contributor to this run being so excellent.
Hitman, Preacher, and Punisher MAX were actually really good (for the most part), but The Boys and Crossed on the other hand...

First story was okeish, it was a twist on the rabid fast zombie trope where the virus made them rabid and smart enough to use weapons, track survivors even drive vehicles, was decent, then it degenerated towards edgy gore pornography for the sake of it.
