is not like he's hiding that he's making homages, one of his films is literally called Pulp Fiction

      Anonymous

Every scene he's ever made has been an 'homage' to something. Always uses music he ripped off another movie that sounds moronic in his modern movie but his audience suspends their disbelief because they think it's a skill to not be original. The kind of homosexual who gets off just by saying "spaghetti western".

Take away the homages and parallels with music and scene setting he still got plenty of organic characters with great natural dialogue

Lol no. There's a reason QT fills his movie with ultraviolence, to distract morons from how bad the rest of his movies are.

            Anonymous

You could cut out all the violence from pulp fiction and it'd still be good. RD included.

              Anonymous

Bullshit. Every kino part of Butch's story is violence. Once the violence stops, you get cringe dialogue about blueberry pancakes from some moronic women that QT has a fetish for.

                Anonymous

We're just gonna ignore his obvious desperation to get him and his girl out? And his violence is only ever a means to an end. He runs Marcellus over because Wallace is trying to kill him. He goes back to the basement because he's showing a kindness to Wallace. He only kills Vincent because he's under his the impression Vincent is trying to kill him.

Butch is still a sympathetic character without the violence

                Anonymous

His desperation to what? Avoid violence? LOL
                >"Throw fight or I'll kill you"
                >Kill opponent in ring
                >Kill hitman
                >Run over crime boss
                >Kill two rapists
Then QT makes the woman annoying to the point where I don't really care if they escape. It's all just violence porn with QT.

                Anonymous

Butch isn't a irredeemably violent butthole he's a dude in a shitty situation who is trying to escape with girlfriend with three obstacles in his way that he can only use violence to resort to. I genuinely don't understand how you can say his films are merely a catalyst to splooge violence and gore over the screen. I can just think of so many scenes that have no contextual violence to it whatsoever. I feel like a thought you were saying were true there would be a lot more of it and it would be a lot more gratuitous

                >tho

I'm sorry am I supposed to be giving you a dissertation on why I like Tarantino films at 9:44 in the morning? Literally look at any scene in his earlier films that doesn't involve any sort of violence or threats happening and my point will be proven.

                Anonymous

You made my point for me: you can't provide a scene that doesn't rely on violence because it literally doesn't exist.

That's braindead. If you really want one of the opening to reservoir dogs is a perfect example of a scene that doesn't rely on violence that I find incredibly memorable. At that time they're literally just guys at a diner shooting the shit. That's our introduction to them.

Most of the shows in a given season are the same 2 or 3 ideas (isekai with likely harem, rom-coms with likely harem and magic/sci-fi/superhero show with non-sensical/contradictory rules) and the other 10% have good ideas to them but falter in some way (usually when it comes to explaining lore or concluding). It's not even the best Elmore Leonard adaptation. It's why Tarrantino decided to stick to directing his own material--how sluggish he made Leonard's plot mechanics and (usually slightly cartoonish) interpersonal dynamics come off. It's not bad but it was outside the wheelhouse and felt overly restrained (which is bad coming from a director whose major schtick is going balls out). You could argue you like it for that reason but saying it's his best film is contrarian nonsense--all the qualities he's known for are muted and there's, at least relatively, no chemistry when everything is taken as a whole. Jackie Brown is still good but it's less than the sum of its parts.
