in my honest op i think daft punk quit at the perfect time, they knew ram was mid andi think it still is
My brother and I were huge Tron fans together, sadly he killed himself shortly before this movie came out and I lose it every time I watch it. That song in particular when it all starts up in the movie just destroys me, but I love the movie nonetheless.
They tried to turn the Flynn thing into a meme when promoting the movie but it never took hold. Like at all. I still like the movie though for what it is.
"Memes" and "failed memes" were a thing back then what the frick are you talking about? In fact the term meme was overused to apply to literally every image macro and internet joke back then even if it had no actual memetic value to it.
Aside from that I remember going to Flynn's Arcade at Disney when the movie came out and there was like a big fricking dance party going on outside it with a dj playing tron music.
not really, there's nothng to it
some 80s hippie hallucinates that his quake bot became a real boy and was the cause of his wife and child leaving him, not that he was a druggie who couldn't hold down a job the end

>Garrett Hedlund is a charisma vacuum
Not his fault when his lines were garbage. Main character was poorly written and boring. If not Garrett who would you have casted? Again, the problem was the lines
Does anybody have that meme from Tron Uprising where Dyson is advertising skin cream?
Keanu has been doing it his entire career. With the same dearth of lines. He can do it because he has natural screen charisma. I don't know who they should have got. Because H-wood just isn't creating young, white leading actors anymore. Maybe Tom Holland? ....i.d.k.
Someone who looks like Jeff Bridges. just put out a casting call, be patient, and see as many actors as possible to find one who could look like his son. The main issue was that Garrett does not look like he could be Jeff Bridges' son. There was zero similarity and zero father-son chemistry between the two of them. Garrett also looks too similar to Kevin Connolly (E from Entourage), they could easily be brothers or twins. And Kevin Connolly was never a leading character type, he always played the loyal friend and side kick.
>Jai Courtney had the same problem until Captain Boorerang
That was the most cringe role he ever did. Australians dont talk that way >oi oi ease up guv. I was just havin' a nanny with me misso when all you c**ts rocked up
I remember seeing him in... >Unbroken

his career has been on the decline since tron 2 and he's basically unhireable after getting a dui and looking like a crackhead. he did manage to frick and inseminate Best Emma, though.
He was supposed to be Kaneda in American Akira opposite K-Stew as Kei, with Gary Oldman as military guy and Helena Bonham Carter as the crazy witch chick. thank goodness that fell through.
CGI bridges looked terrible, but both Bridges were terribly written and performed.
The hero was unbelievably shitty, he didn't convince me for one second that he had been sucked into a bizzare alien world that challenged his understanding of what it means to be alive. He was just Extreme Sports Guy Who Loved His Daddy And Cute Chicks from minute one.
The soundtrack is also shit despite everyone saying otherwise, it was basically an AI production before its time.

Still had a very poorly written second act, everything from when Sam meets his father to the club scene to the lightsail trip
>Still had a very poorly written second act, everything from when Sam meets his father to the club scene to the lightsail trip
I hate to say it but....I can't believe I'm saying this...but the movie needed comic relief to add to the emotional vibe. Not a lot. But just a little by a third character with actual effortless, subtle comedic timing when needed. AND NO I"M NOT TALKING ABOUT A JOSH WHEDON QUIP FEST.
That David Bowie guy and Clu's righthand man were the comic relief.
It needed to not come to a grinding halt, needed to show (not tell) the actual consequences of what would happen if Clu escaped, and needed to have Sam and Olivia Wilde exploring the city.
Also needed to show Sam discovering the same powers that Kevin did, with the implication that he was capable of going down the same road and making the same mistakes, but due to his quest to save his father from the underground he recognizes his father's sins and doesn't repeat them
>That David Bowie guy and Clu's righthand man were the comic relief.
I figured someone would mention Michael Sheen. He's not a comedic actor. And it didn't work as any sort of comedic relief. His character just sort of fell flat.
A department store mannequin with googly eyes glued onto it would have been the better casting. She brought nothing to a role that had nothing. She might as well have had a string on her back that when you pulled it she said "I believe in you, frat boy!"
Total non-character. Simple eye candy. Which isn't TOTALLY a bad thing. But it happens a lot with these technical visually focused directors. I wish it were more normal to have directing duos where you pair a kino visual director with one that is more focused on the subtleties of building out characters. It's a lot to ask for one guy.
image being wilde and getting mega mogged in Tron and in House by the same women, not only that but the entire house episode was written with her being ultra mogged for 45 minutes. Jesus Christ
Disney only pumps money into previously proven IPs now. They had ONE big disaster in the last what, 15 years with John Carter (which honestly I wish had performed better as it was pretty good). And since then only Marvel, Nu Wars and Live action remakes get any amount of budget, and even then, look what happened to their goal of releasing Star Wars movies every year once Solo bombed.
No because it's basically just a fan art. And "that era" is still what we have today and it's often worse (yes I'm looking at you capeshit), the technology didn't improve much, we're waiting for the full AI step but even then it's all about creativity.
>Game dev becomes trapped in his own game for 1000 simulated years but only like 20 have passed in the real world because time moves slower >All the shit with tron being betrayed in tron uprising
The background story was more kino than the actual plot
It was the controls. They tried to reinvent the wheel with some oddball jank control scheme instead of just making it control like a normal action adventure shooter. This happened a lot back then.

should have styled her hair a little longer to cover up that unfortunate square jaw. 1" above the shoulder line would've been perfect.
also: >black hair >jet black suit >black eye liner
just way too much black. makes her look like she's on the villain's side. black usually = evil, e.g. darth vader. why not have her wear a silver suit, with a lighter color hair? the character just looks bland overall. just look at this abysmal poster design. only two colors, teal green and black. then there's so much blurry fog you can't even see the "cool" cyber city behind her.
>I enjoyed it but Disney shit canned it because the series wasn't watched by women
They shitcanned it because while it was admittedly kino, it was too flawed and niche in its current state to make money. Not that Disney even remotely has the capability in its current state as a company to do it right and make money with it. I will still be watching LETO-TRON if it ever comes out though.
it made money and Disney even made a kino cartoon to go along with it. Disney purposely killed Tron Uprising.
The director of Tron Legacy has said Disney killed it because Iger wanted to go with Stars and Marvel instead.
I'm fine with it because it's an IP Disney hasn't ruined and is still kino.
Clu's plan made no sense. Let's say he made it. Would his whole army appear in the basement of the arcade? Would his giant aircraft-carrier thing appear in the arcade? Would it be able to operate in the Real World? Could it really fly with no means of propulsion or lift? Would any of his abilities or light-cycles or equipment be able to work in the Real World? Would he be able to interact with computer programs, or "re-educate" people into his army? What matter is used to materialize things from the Grid? I could see Flynn and Sam having some kind of "molecular pattern" stored in the computer that could re-materialize them, but making an aircraft carrier appear would take a considerable amount of material.
When Quorra became Real, would she keep any of her Iso abilities like healing? Would SHE be able to interact with computers? How would Sam be able to explain that this magic hot woman just appeared, and we should all listen to her? She has no ID, no birth certificate or any other history.
have you ever watched tron uprising? thats the best show I've ever watched, it's so compacted, good story good character building, got a good art style, fighting is great UNLIKE the movie!!
was I the only 11 year old that made this movie his entire personality the moment they saw the trailer? I used to watch the trailer and Daft Punk's promotional videos at least 50 times a day, I would hum Derezzed ALL day long, I bought the OST and even stole a gay ass Tron themed notebook journal thing only for the stickers and concept art sketches that came with it, I was SO fricking hyped for it that I would count the fricking days for the premiere and then I had to count even more for it to premiere in my third world country, I was like 2 hours early for the tickets sale and carefully studied which cinema in my city would be the best one to go see it, when I found out the gay ass ARG online my mind was absolutely blown, I thought this shit would continue forever with more and more movies but alas disney is fricking gay

but if they obviously lack charisma why does hollywood try so hard to make them happen? It's not like decent looking men who can act are hard to come by in the acting world
This is a weird one. Because he clearly mogged Bale and stole all his scenes in Terminator Salvation. It's why Hollywood was sure he was the next big thing. Funny how things work out though.
This movie was great. Tron Legacy and Davy Jones represent the best of CGI and they were both over 10 years ago. It's scary how Hollywood peaked a long time ago.
Funny how much of a minor character Tron is in both Tron movies. I haven't seen the cartoon yet so if he's in it a lot, should be fun.
Wish Disney would sell the Tron IP to someone else who would do something with it. Since it's not really tied into anything else Disney, it would be an easy move.
have seen it twice, enjoyed it for what it is, but still can't quite describe why it's not a "great" movie or even a cult classic like Matrix. just watchable. maybe it's the casting, at no point did it feel like the young guy was the son of the older guy. olivia wilde also seems miscast in the role. the villain(s) were also not threatening. i mean, in the story yea they were, but they didn't *feel* threatening. whole thing felt like there were no stakes, like watching a game. maybe it was the bad CG on the de-aged flynn. maybe you just have to be a huge fan of the original tron. i don't know. but it's just a decent flick for me. perhaps they could've played up the tension more between what was happening in the real world. like a real imminent corporate takeover that would lead to complete shutdown and deletion of the tron virtual world, so the son of flynn, old man flynn, and olivia wilde would be dead if they didn't escape in time. yeah yeah i know that was part of the actual movie but they didn't make it clear. there's something really corporate and plastic about it. somehow a seemingly longer and more boring of the matrix. a flashy commercial to consoom, better than being bored or feeling alone. if i were stuck at a hotel, channel surfing, i'd watch it again if it was playing without commercials on some cable channel.
morpheus <---> old man flynn
neo <---> young son flynn
trinity <---> olivia wilde
maybe they should have had more characters and a more threatening villain with higher stakes. Matrix was good because Smith and Agents were actually formidable. maybe Tron2 sucked because it was too PG-13.

Rinzzler was awesome, but the one fighting him in the arena should have been kevin instead of sam. Putting sam in there with no context makes the whole thing meaningless beyond looking cool, even if you realized rinzzler was supposed to be tron.
I wish i entered the thread earlier
Joseph Kosinski is the most visually gifted director working right now
Oblivion (movie) is such a delight, not only visually but also in the sound department
TRON vs Oblivion soundtrack is up for the biggest match-up of the past decade.
Seriously watch (and listen) to this shit
Mindblowing
He's great....like top tier with visuals but his movies are usually lacking a bit in the SOVL department. They are usually so so close but missing something. Oblivion is a perfect example. That movie is completely forgotten by the masses. Almost memory holed. Top Gun Maverick I turned off after 30 minutes it was pretty bad to me. Nobody talked like a real person ..."Yo get off my six bro.." the way everybody was acting in the movie was really cringe. I didn't even get to the supposedly great dogfight visuals everybody talks about.
When I first saw this movie I thought CLU looked impressive. I could barely tell he was CGI'd. Years later when I rewatched it I could immediately tell and it just stick out the entire movie. Almost feels as if I watched a different movie in the theater. Too bad people just dragged it for the plot and ignored the visual kino. Same people went on to praise marvel
Has the plot of Tron III leaked? I suppose the only loose ends are we don't know the end result of the Flynn-Clue reintegration aside from them 'exploding'. The Grid still exists and Tron is floating at the bottom of the Sea of Simulation.
one time, like 15 years ago, someone from Cinemaphile was running their own stream site, just streaming movies all day
I'm watching the stream one day, and the queue is: Tron - Part 1.avi, Tron - Part 2.avi, and Tron - Part 3.avi
Tron - Part 1 was the first hour of the movie, Tron - Part 2 was a video of a man having sex with a golden retriever, and Tron - Part 3 was the second hour of the movie

SIRS..
I got to watch this is 3D twice. I feel bad for you gays that never got experience this kino.
Garrett Hedlund is a charisma vacuum that needs to find his "voice". Jai Courtney had the same problem until Captain Boorerang of all people. People to this day are totally clueless to the fact that even Mark Harmon had this problem until he found is "voice" with Agent Gibbs. Prior to that he was a total charisma vacuum.
Jai Courtney was a weird case, he was absolutely based in Spartacus and then sucked in everything else (except Unbroken) for like a solid decade
he was good in jack reacher
>Garrett Hedlund is a charisma vacuum
Not his fault when his lines were garbage. Main character was poorly written and boring. If not Garrett who would you have casted? Again, the problem was the lines
The show was surprisingly based
>If not Garrett who would you have casted?
Keanu has been doing it his entire career. With the same dearth of lines. He can do it because he has natural screen charisma. I don't know who they should have got. Because H-wood just isn't creating young, white leading actors anymore. Maybe Tom Holland? ....i.d.k.
Jonah Hill
>upload exceeded file size limit
TRONELLA WE NEED MORE CYCLES
ryan gosling would have done it justice
>If not Garrett who would you have casted?
Someone who looks like Jeff Bridges. just put out a casting call, be patient, and see as many actors as possible to find one who could look like his son. The main issue was that Garrett does not look like he could be Jeff Bridges' son. There was zero similarity and zero father-son chemistry between the two of them. Garrett also looks too similar to Kevin Connolly (E from Entourage), they could easily be brothers or twins. And Kevin Connolly was never a leading character type, he always played the loyal friend and side kick.
>If not Garrett who would you have casted?
John Wayne...IS...Tron
>Jai Courtney had the same problem until Captain Boorerang
That was the most cringe role he ever did. Australians dont talk that way

>>oi oi ease up guv. I was just havin' a nanny with me misso when all you c**ts rocked up
I am literally keking right now just reading it. That character was kino.

That's really irresponsible

his career has been on the decline since tron 2 and he's basically unhireable after getting a dui and looking like a crackhead. he did manage to frick and inseminate Best Emma, though.
>he did manage to frick and inseminate Best Emma, though
Fookin, 'ell. He won.
He was supposed to be Kaneda in American Akira opposite K-Stew as Kei, with Gary Oldman as military guy and Helena Bonham Carter as the crazy witch chick. thank goodness that fell through.

I watched top gun: maverick recently and there's a scene just like this in it

Can Americans really ride motorcycles without helmets? Is that a country wide thing or does it vary between states?

varies by state. you use to be able to ride without one here but this state keeps getting more and more cucked

he's thinking of the playboy thing which was just some nude models not the actresses from the movie
cgi bridges ruined it for me
CGI bridges looked terrible, but both Bridges were terribly written and performed.
I can forgive that CLU looked weird, because he was a computer program. Real-world de-aged Flynn should be burned in a fire.

Michael Sheen was supposed to be the comic relief
olivia was miscast
frick you if you disagree
A department store mannequin with googly eyes glued onto it would have been the better casting. She brought nothing to a role that had nothing. She might as well have had a string on her back that when you pulled it she said "I believe in you, frat boy!"
i would prefer not to
Is she evil? She looks like she'd step on me
Total non-character. Simple eye candy. Which isn't TOTALLY a bad thing. But it happens a lot with these technical visually focused directors. I wish it were more normal to have directing duos where you pair a kino visual director with one that is more focused on the subtleties of building out characters. It's a lot to ask for one guy.
The last truly great live action Disney film. Endgame sissies are kidding themselves.

Yes finding women attractive is gay.

They wouldn’t be able to make a movie like this again. It benefitted from the 3d gold rush. Look at how they treat their biggest IPs now.
>Disney only pumps money into previously proven IPs now.
And then runs them into the ground. Fantastic strategy.
I never thought about it, but what will Disney do once these IPs have completely lost their worth, and lose money on average per release?
Looks so dated now doesn't it
Focus on how shiny her costume is and the sharp angles on the led strips
the light in the backround looks fake
That's not from the movie.
Yes but reflects 3d rendering technology of that era pretty well
No because it's basically just a fan art. And "that era" is still what we have today and it's often worse (yes I'm looking at you capeshit), the technology didn't improve much, we're waiting for the full AI step but even then it's all about creativity.

The background story was more kino than the actual plot
I love Advent Rising!
Off topic but I loved that game. Shame it flopped so hard.
It was the controls. They tried to reinvent the wheel with some oddball jank control scheme instead of just making it control like a normal action adventure shooter. This happened a lot back then.
Man, the backgrounds in the show looked so beautiful.
Wtf they stole their artstyle from spider man

Yeah, was an amazing experience. Had my Encom lanyard and everything. Apparently there weren't as many Tron fans in my area as I had hoped, but holy shit I loved that movie and still do.
great soundtrack
can we talk about how aggressive Zuse's penis was?
If the original Tron wasn’t an American movie (from Disney no less) it would be considered an experimental avant garde art house classic
Movie wasn't bad. My biggest issue was plot felt rushed and protagonist had some pretty cringe lines.
Overall 8/10

should have styled her hair a little longer to cover up that unfortunate square jaw. 1" above the shoulder line would've been perfect.
also:
>black hair
>jet black suit
>black eye liner
just way too much black. makes her look like she's on the villain's side. black usually = evil, e.g. darth vader. why not have her wear a silver suit, with a lighter color hair? the character just looks bland overall. just look at this abysmal poster design. only two colors, teal green and black. then there's so much blurry fog you can't even see the "cool" cyber city behind her.
Homo, her jaw is perfect

I enjoyed it but Disney shit canned it because the series wasn't watched by women
Based Uprising appreciator. Gave us ome great music too. This piece is my favourite:
They literally brought a computer program to life in the real world so probably yes to all of that.
taxes the reddit post
More time has passed between Tron Legacy and today than between Tron and Tron Legacy
youre only off by like 15 years
Tron was 150 years ago bud.
DUDE!!!!!!!!!!
TRON UPRISING IS WHERE IT'S AT
have you ever watched tron uprising? thats the best show I've ever watched, it's so compacted, good story good character building, got a good art style, fighting is great UNLIKE the movie!!
I hope to see Season 2 so much sad.
was I the only 11 year old that made this movie his entire personality the moment they saw the trailer?
I EVEN BOUGHT A COUPLE OF FRISBEES AND PRETENDED I WAS TRON AT THE BIG PARK NEAR MY HOUSE
I'D THROW FRISBEES AT PEOPLE AND BIRDS AND DOGS
AND WHEN I WAS HOME I HAD A BUNCH OF OLD CDS I'D SMASH AGAINST THE WALLS PRETENDING I WAS DESTROYING REBEL PROGRAM'S DISCS
hmm i was 14 but i also absorbed a lot of it at the time. i live in norway so i didn't have access to all that merch. but it did make an impact.
I felt that feel, yes.
13, but yeah.

hyperlackofcharismatoma. Its a common medical condition in Hollywood. Hope he's getting treatment for it.
but if they obviously lack charisma why does hollywood try so hard to make them happen? It's not like decent looking men who can act are hard to come by in the acting world
This is a weird one. Because he clearly mogged Bale and stole all his scenes in Terminator Salvation. It's why Hollywood was sure he was the next big thing. Funny how things work out though.

"Why?"

Disney Star Wars derailed the follow up film. RIP
I bet this muhfugga looks zesty in 4k HDR anyone seen it like that?
Style Over Substance - The Movie
This movie was great. Tron Legacy and Davy Jones represent the best of CGI and they were both over 10 years ago. It's scary how Hollywood peaked a long time ago.
Funny how much of a minor character Tron is in both Tron movies. I haven't seen the cartoon yet so if he's in it a lot, should be fun.
Wish Disney would sell the Tron IP to someone else who would do something with it. Since it's not really tied into anything else Disney, it would be an easy move.
have seen it twice, enjoyed it for what it is, but still can't quite describe why it's not a "great" movie or even a cult classic like Matrix. just watchable. maybe it's the casting, at no point did it feel like the young guy was the son of the older guy. olivia wilde also seems miscast in the role. the villain(s) were also not threatening. i mean, in the story yea they were, but they didn't *feel* threatening. whole thing felt like there were no stakes, like watching a game. maybe it was the bad CG on the de-aged flynn. maybe you just have to be a huge fan of the original tron. i don't know. but it's just a decent flick for me. perhaps they could've played up the tension more between what was happening in the real world. like a real imminent corporate takeover that would lead to complete shutdown and deletion of the tron virtual world, so the son of flynn, old man flynn, and olivia wilde would be dead if they didn't escape in time. yeah yeah i know that was part of the actual movie but they didn't make it clear. there's something really corporate and plastic about it. somehow a seemingly longer and more boring of the matrix. a flashy commercial to consoom, better than being bored or feeling alone. if i were stuck at a hotel, channel surfing, i'd watch it again if it was playing without commercials on some cable channel.
morpheus <---> old man flynn
neo <---> young son flynn
trinity <---> olivia wilde
maybe they should have had more characters and a more threatening villain with higher stakes. Matrix was good because Smith and Agents were actually formidable. maybe Tron2 sucked because it was too PG-13.
>when kingdom hearts can make a more emotional main fight that the film it's based on
?si=hLmqWHt5GaPH_D7F
Rinzzler was awesome, but the one fighting him in the arena should have been kevin instead of sam. Putting sam in there with no context makes the whole thing meaningless beyond looking cool, even if you realized rinzzler was supposed to be tron.
Man that actually looked pretty fun. Is Kingdom Hearts actually a good game?
nta but the combat is fun, 2 especially. haven't tried 3 yet
FLYNN
AM I STILL TO CREATE THE PERFECT SHITPOST?
uwu my dude
How much has deaging cgi improved since then?
Young Luke was pretty good in that 1 episode of Boba Fett that got hijacked by Mando but they were definitely using some deepfake there
Absolute kino, my local kinoplex still had their tron-esque cinema intro playing until they replaced it around 3 years ago

why, its so fricking cool man
I wish the film would have explored the ISO concept more but Uprising does go into it a bit
Imagine the aroma
Last for the most hype scene of the 2010s
Disc Wars is probably the best action soundtrack of the decade
I wish i entered the thread earlier
Joseph Kosinski is the most visually gifted director working right now
Oblivion (movie) is such a delight, not only visually but also in the sound department
TRON vs Oblivion soundtrack is up for the biggest match-up of the past decade.
Seriously watch (and listen) to this shit
Mindblowing
[Non dialogue version]
Bonus:
>Joseph Kosinski
He's great....like top tier with visuals but his movies are usually lacking a bit in the SOVL department. They are usually so so close but missing something. Oblivion is a perfect example. That movie is completely forgotten by the masses. Almost memory holed. Top Gun Maverick I turned off after 30 minutes it was pretty bad to me. Nobody talked like a real person ..."Yo get off my six bro.." the way everybody was acting in the movie was really cringe. I didn't even get to the supposedly great dogfight visuals everybody talks about.
I really like the soundtrack, setting, amd visuals. I also enjoyed Jeff Bridges performance of kind ofnwashed up put there hippie dude Old Ben Kenobi
Was Ready Player One the modern Tron?
No. The Creator is. There's practically an entire cottage industry on Youtube built around its behind the scenes production and visuals.
Boring eXhumer nostalgia bait.
>what if there were people inside le computer!
Has the plot of Tron III leaked? I suppose the only loose ends are we don't know the end result of the Flynn-Clue reintegration aside from them 'exploding'. The Grid still exists and Tron is floating at the bottom of the Sea of Simulation.
Why not Tron (1982)?
one time, like 15 years ago, someone from Cinemaphile was running their own stream site, just streaming movies all day
I'm watching the stream one day, and the queue is: Tron - Part 1.avi, Tron - Part 2.avi, and Tron - Part 3.avi
Tron - Part 1 was the first hour of the movie, Tron - Part 2 was a video of a man having sex with a golden retriever, and Tron - Part 3 was the second hour of the movie
Ah yes, the full Tron experience
>one time, i watched tron
So?
They call that "the extended cut."
