They kept cranking out the Paul Anderson ones because they were cheap and third worlders ate it up. None of them did particularly well domestically and even at their absolute best their worldwide totals would be an underwhelming opening weekend for an actual hit movie. The Mario movie probably made more already than every RE film combined.
And the most recent one couldn't even sell to 3rd worlders. It made $40 mil worldwide. It's literally a dead franchise, at least theatrcially. this is the future of the film industry they're in even worse shape than we thought

Now Borderlands and Gearbox are owned by Embracer Group. Which could be a very bad thing or very small possibility is could be a good thing.
Borderlands 1 and 2 made the franchise popular.
Borderlands 3 is gorgeous with their currently best gameplay but was ruined by the terrible writing and the usual lack of patches (fixed by community anyway).
I tried playing BL1 again recently and the zones are tiny as frick, the movements are weird, the AI is wooden.
I spent years on BL2 but same, it's too dated now.

I extremely liked the first 2 games. Borderlands 2 is one of my favorite games of all time.
Bought the deluxe edition of 3 and couldn't finish it. Was hard to get into. Storyline was bad. And there were other games that competed for my time.
But pre-sequel was based. Also 1 was mediocre at best.
I played 1, 2 and presequel and that's it. I every now and then think of playing 3 but then decided against it. In 1 I mained Lilith and Brick, 2 was Maya and Gaige and PS was Nisha. 1 carries a lot of memories for me despite its simpleness given it's the first one and I remember 2 got moronic with its balancing. Presequel seemed to be a good middle ground and I'd agree it was probably the peak.
What exactly would this movie even be about since I see people such as Atlas and Jakobs in the casting?
3 is actually a decent game if you enjoyed 2. the main story arc is stupid, but the game overall really caught the culture of the time and made a decent mockery of it. Only shit deal is mayhem levels are about as obnoxious as bl2 badass over levels and 3 gives you way too many tools to make death basically an impossibility.
I'll give it another thought after I finish my current replay of 1. First time playing BL1 remaster. I never realized how crucial the minimal is to enjoying the game much more. Going RL brick for maximum fun. Or pain. We'll see just finished killing bonehead. Frick I don't remember him being so lethal.

Man, I love Borderlands and just want to get the people writing to fricking turn down the silliness like 20-30%. They are mechanically sound with interesting worlds and characters but have leaned too heavily in making constant shitty jokes. The humor lands more when it isn’t forced every 5 seconds and you have a straight man to contrast it. Knoxx was funny because he was a straightforward military guy presented with moronic and juvenile problems. In 3 it’s like everyone is trying to get their line in and only take things seriously in a few hamfisted moments.

Are there any game franchises you think would make good films or series with the right director? I think Vigilante 8 would be cool, maybe covering both games switching the narrative back and forth between the past and future.
I always wanted them to make a GTAIII movie but to make it chaotic random fun like the game instead of having an actual plot it would just be a series of semi-connected vignettes, each with a different director.
The individual bits could be anywhere from 5-15 minutes and could be about anything, the only rules would be
