    >“I saw John Wick 4 on the plane. Talk about volume. I think the film is disgusting beyond belief,” Stone said in a new interview with Variety. “Disgusting. I don’t know what people are thinking.

“Maybe I was watching G.I. Joe when I was a kid. But [Keanu Reeves] kills, what, three, four hundred people in the f****** movie. And as a combat veteran, I gotta tell you, not one of them is believable. I realize it’s a movie, but it’s become a video game more than a movie.”

John Wick actually kills 151 people in the fourth installment of the popular film franchise – a new record!

“It’s lost touch with reality,” Stone continued. “The audience perhaps likes the video game. But I get bored by it. How many cars can crash? How many stunts can you do? What’s the difference between Fast and Furious and some other film? It’s just one thing after another. Whether it’s a super-human Marvel character or just a human being like John Wick, it doesn’t make any difference. It’s not believable.”

Then again, as Stone also said in the same interview, “People in showbiz are idiots.”

I mean he's right, in the first movie yeah he was an insane badass but it felt relatively grounded in the sense that he gets fricked up too and barely makes it out in scenes like the night club, the way the sequels just went overboard ruined the franchise for me, starting with homosexual fricking bulletproof suits

Realism can take a back seat as long as the plot and writing is good. Speed for example is incredibly unrealistic, yet it's one of the best action movies of all time.
Not defending John Wick I've never really seen them I tried to watch the first and got bored. Action is a pretty shitty genre in general.

John Wick just looks like ballet to me. The illusion produced from camera moves and cutting isn't there in the majority of the scenes as they like doing these big ones that showcase all the choreography. It pulls me out and makes me very aware of the choreography. Also there is no narrative tension in any of the films or situations which produce impactful stakes.

            Anonymous

Stone is right. There's something offputting about the John Wick sequels. They're over the top, but not in a funny or thrilling way, in a way where you just don't believe what you're watching. The choreography goes on forever, Keanu is too slow and it all feels like a meaningless stunt expo for the director.

Same goes for Natural Born Killers. It being satirical isn't an excuse

I don't like the movie Stone made, but the NBK script was great because the satire justified the over the top violence. The crazier Mickey and Mallory were, the more of an indictment of the preferential media treatment they received. The two go hand in hand to make up the story. John Wick doesn't really have a story, outside of the dead wife and dog that everyone forgot about 2 movies ago.

What about Scarface? I love it but i can't deny the over-the-topness almost turns it into a parody.

Tony had a purpose behind all of his over-the-topness, he was an outsider immigrant trying to quickly rise through the ranks of organized crime, where being bolder and more ruthless earns you respect. He had an ambition, a rise and fall and it happens within one movie. We're on JW5 now and nobody knows what Wick wants besides "don't get killed by le high table." Stone doesn't know shit about politics, but he knows storytelling.

                Anonymous

Who said anything about the director, dear pajeet? I was refering about the storytelling and self-contained story. Also:
                >Derek Kolstad (born April 4, 1974) is an American screenwriter and film producer. He is the creator of the John Wick franchise, which began in 2014. He continued to write for the first two sequels of the franchise and is mainly known as a screenwriter of action films and shows.
A movie is more than the director. Big surprise i know.

                Anonymous

Kolstad wrote the original script on spec, but all the sequels have been cobbled together with other writers.

Which explains why i liked the first John Wick better than the others. Just to be clear to the other stupid moron: i do like all the other ones too and 4 is fun in a certain way, but the first one is still my favorite. Same director or not i don't give a frick. Based on Oliver Stone. Finally someone else who doesn't like this shitty franchise. As an anon above said "there is no tension" John wick kills everyone without breaking a sweat. It's like the joke Arnold made when he played himself in the last action hero about how many people he killed in the movie. We literally went from john mctiernan with his suspenseful action movies to capeshit shit in a couple of decades. The genre is dead.

This is literally so fricking wrong and such proof as to why john wick is actually good.
Go watch the first movie again you giant moron. John wick gets the crap beat out of him 70% of the time. That's the whole reason it was so good. He gets the shit beat out of him then he goes and fricks a buncha shit up and still gets beat up but finishes it off by just doing things that would technically be easily possible
all the sequels are a bit different each time and play into what you're talking about yet STILL showcase him being mortal and him getting beat up so often
there was a whole 2 minute scene of john wick falling down so many stairs in the 4th film just to make a little joke out of what I'm talking about
The John Wick movies are very self aware and that is a part of the reason why they are so good.

I can like Scarface and Platoon while acknowledging a lack of realism and the hypocrisy of Oliver Stone.

Scarface was a very entertaining movie but it was hardly high art or deep or anything. Psychopath aims high and ends up hurting everyone around hi: wow 2deep4me. It was like a video game in face video games were made based on it and blacks glorified it in the early days of gangsta rap because it was such an over the top, cartoonish depiction of violent gangsters making bank.

Wick/FF and the likes have become the equivalent of empty calories.

People pretending that action movies should have some depth and deep meaning are the biggest morons in the world. I watch movies like Raid and JW to see unrealistic fights, gunfights, and choreography. The whole franchise is based on someone killing his dog and then him going on a killing spree and taking out the most dangerous organization in the world by himself, and you people want this movie to take itself seriously

      Anonymous

I'm not saying they should be very deep, but they don't like some tension and none of these films have it. I can accept these movies as stunt and gunfight pornography or as larp of Hong Kong and that would be it, it's just that there are people who act as if these movies had invented the action genre although if they put it back on the map that's not a doubt.

      >The whole franchise is based on someone killing his dog and then him going on a killing spree and taking out the most dangerous organization in the world by himself
The first movie had that fun revenge element to it, the dog was a gift from his dying wife, the gangsters he killed were directly responsible, etc. But in the sequels he's just been running away. At no point has he expressed any desire to "take out" the organization.

Whatever you get what I’m saying. At some point he says that he’ll kill whoever comes his way so that’s what’s been happening since the 1st movie

Action movies were getting stale and boring until the JW franchise came out and that’s a fact. The way the fight scenes were filmed were refreshing and something we haven’t seen in a while.

          Anonymous

Yes, I agree with jw, I refresh the genre, but it's not the big story. Die hard or red October are goats of the genus. The franchise could use some competent writing

All john wick does is do a little dance with a gun while bad guys conveniently show up one by one. Then he tags them with the gun and they fall down. A john wick movie is this scene in several different locations and some unimportant story in between. It's like porn.

Its worse than porn. At least porn makes you feel something.

I had the terrible misfortune of seeing John wick 1 I can't imagine how bad the sequels are.

Based. I like Keanu and Derek Kolstad but these sequels barely even qualify as movies. They're like extended vidya cut scenes that you wish you could click through, but are forced to sit and watch.
Make more original shit like the Kolstad JW1 spec script, just because something hits doesn't mean it has to be a forced franchise.
