If you're referring to fire lady dowager Ursa seems to have genuinely been able to turn Azula around, at least somewhat, resulting in an Azula that's much friendlier and more balanced (albeit just as manipulative and imperialist underneath) and even has a different color of flame to reflect it.

Ursa is still, canonically, visibly excited by Iroh's letter from Ba Sing Se and laughs about burning the city to the ground. She's obviously into FN imperialism, the comics just don't bother to explore that aspect of her at all.
Honestly, imperialist Ursa is one of my favorite aspects of dowager, it's so just different from every other take I've seen.
Agreed, women being actually interesting characters is far more interesting and enjoyable than the slow but inevitable backwards march that's being taken to 'correct' there having ever been a female villain at any point in human history, or even a slightly dodgy/ambiguous female character.
It also undermines Azula to say that she never had a choice but to be what she was, as if she didn't obviously like it right up until it stopped getting the rewards she felt she was owed.

A story arc where Zuko found Ursa, only for her to still be a full-bore imperialist who simultaneously deeply loves him, would have been absolute perfection. Her trying to gently coax her son into restarting the war, trying to win over the Avatar (after all, he is her grandpa from a past life) to her side, and simultaneously genuinely trying to help Azula heal would have been an amazing story. And look at what they chose to do instead.

Glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by this. Ozai was never a complex character but the show implied he used to at least be decent to his family before he became totally power hungry. Then the comics proceed to completely ignore that in favor of making him 100% evil the whole time, while also making Ursa look awful in the process. Not only does it take away what little nuance Ozai has but it also makes all those touching flashbacks and scenes of Zuko thinking about a better time totally meaningless since apparently there wasnt actually a better time.

Kings only rule with the consent of their most powerful subjects who control the banks and industry and what have you. Everyone was fine with Iroh getting kicked to the side because Ozai was business as usual and given his political genius had likely already wooed their support. Zuko would obviously be less popular, but Ozai DID just piss away their 100 year trump card and their fleet of airships. Given Zuko had the backing of the Avatar and an easy out for the Earth Kingdom to not push their shit in in retaliation, he was at the very least acceptable.

Iroh getting cast aside for Ozai makes perfect sense in the context of the fire nation being a brutal militaristic empire. Iroh was popular because he was well known for being a strong warrior, leader, and a good general. After he suffered a very prominent military defeat at Ba Sing Se and lost his son leading to him no longer having the motivation to continue his military achievements, political support moving to the ambitious Ozai who was also known to be a strong warrior and actually had living heirs is perfectly normal and expected. You also have to remember that the man literally pulled a silent coup by having his dad offed, he'd likely already secured the support of military leaders long before the actual deed was done by promising them a place in his regime.
The very quick acceptance of Zuko is much less realistic, but in the context of the actual story he did have the backing of the Avatar who had just turned their prior firelord into his b***h and took away his magic powers, and even with 100 years of military propaganda for the war effort you have to imagine that Ozai's completely batshit insane plan for the day of the comet genocide and leaving his clearly insane daughter in charge of the fire nation probably lost him some key supporters.

he may not have initiated the actual kick off of the plan, but he was already trying to get himself named the next heir over Iroh, so I still maintain that he'd have probably drummed up supporters for if he managed to convince the firelord since he'd still need people loyal to him in case of a challenge of succession.
Zuko didn't need to do that to take over.
His situation was uniquely different, as I mentioned in

Zuko was like 13 when he was beaten and banished by Ozia, and before that all he could think about was how to live up to his fathers expectation, and since Ursa never brought it up he probably never even thought about it.

Ursa was just a means to an end for him, he wanted the power in her bloodline, everything else is was just baggage to him including her and her whole family. Having his kids know they are descended from the only man who could and did try to stop the ambitions of the royal family doesn't benefit him.
He see's his children as tools. Giving his children ideas about the avatars ideals does not help him; only the his and the royal families ambitions matter to him and so by extension that's only what his children need to know about.

The comic twisted it but Ozia did still consider Zuko HIS son, he was his problem to deal with. He wanted to put him down for NOT BEING MORE LIKE HIM, telling him that he's more like the other side of his family that opposed the fire nation doesn't benefit him.
Ozia was a bad father not because he was evil but because he let his personal insecurities interfere with raising BOTH his children to be his most capable agents. Were shown many times that Zuko is very extremely driven and capable, if Ozia had handled Zuko better he wouldn't have turned on him and Aang would have lost as a result.
It didn't bother Azula. She still tried to slaughter Aang even though she's his descendant.
