She is so hot.
She died in the vacuum of space
This archetype is cancer.
Based girl wasted on one of the weakest episodes
...why did they give her braces?
to parody on why 14 year olds looked more like college students
Pretty much, it was a little joke that she was probably only 15
that doesnt make sense. honestly i think they saw her do the donkey kong smile and thought she had braces
To make blow jobs extra fun
Pedo fetish.
It looks cute and funny
Then why Morty wasn't hitting on her?
Had a parasite in his head
>big eyes?
>plus signs for teeth?
>ends sentences with sounds that don't fit?
I get the big eyes, and Speed Racer is probably the only anime most boomers have ever watched, but the teeth thing?
>>ends sentences with sounds that don't fit?
Is that even a thing on Speed Racer? All I see on those meme videos is that characters talk really fast probably due to dubbing issues. The closest thing I saw was
>"He's going over that cliff!"
>UNHOLY DEATH SCREAM
But that made sense in context
Uerp!
>dubbing issues
honestly translator issues more than anything else, the voice actors have to work with what they're given.
translations of manga and anime in the 60s and 70s tended to be pretty sloppy, either because the translators couldn't be fricking bothered or were under ridiculous timetables for getting the scripts out and dubbed/typeset
if you've ever seen scanlation threads on Cinemaphile, you can see how much of a difference high effort and taking your time makes. i remember one we had for the last volume drop for made in abyss where the english anons took a *lot* of time getting the translations right to match the tone, the setting, the context, even trying to match rhythms for poetic verses and putting in a lot of effort to get the typesetting looking nice and not distracting too much from the art... and then you saw the spanish/italian/portuguese translations and it was just slapped together with brute-forced google translate text in big gross fricking text boxes that covered up half the art... like asking a caveman to draw their interpretation of the mona lisa.
speed racer suffered from being a very rushed production and translation where the writers essentially tried to cram entire plots from multiple issues into every single line of narration and dialogue because they didn't have the time to pace out the story better or do a more high effort translation
This. You can tell it's a translation issue by simply comparing a modern sub to the dubs you had back then. Also, as always, thank you for your service.
What do you consider a "boomer"? Cuz I'm guaranteeing you that nerds older than you have more experience in nerd shit than you.
t. malding boomer
>but the teeth thing?
I figure it's a reference to the donkey kong cabinet art, which is also anime-y and what a lot of gen xers grew up with
What about Gigantor?
Wander Over Yonder had Silver7 and even Phineas and Ferb had Perrytronic

While some animators are big into anime most boarders and writers haven't seen one since the 90's
>show parodies anime
>animation budget is too cheap to be able to properly mimic it
>moron thinks budget equates quality
>animation budget is too expensive to be able to properly mimic it
It looks better than the regular Rick and Morty style.
That's the funniest fricking part, even a pale imitation of anaime has a more pleasing art style than Roiland's weird bug eyed scribbles.
She cute
>show designed to be intentionally ugly
>tries to parody a medium generally designed to be appealing
>just shows how shitty it really is
if I were an ugly-ass western cartoon I would generally avoid calling attention to it, but thats just me
>cartoon parodies anime
>Its usually stuff from like a hundred years ago like Sailor Moon or Voltron.
I still think this is one of the absolute worst examples. Family Guy writers genuinely don't seem to understand the concept outside of pictures of sailor moon and hentai they looked up.
I still don't understand where the "Happy! Happy! Ranbow" stuff comes from
You've never seen old fashion commericial mascots? They touched up on it with homer way back in that Mr clean episode
Same with Breaking Bad. It's clear that they just read the synopsis for the first episode and made a whole short on that.
NORMAL WORDS
I honestly can't wrap my mind around going through the effort of creating an episode of a cartoon just to mock something you've done no research on. Surely someone in the room knew something about Breaking Bad.
Family Guy does it intentionally.
What are all this superhero/anime shit in Rick & Morty? Did the writers gave up on sci-fi and just turned the show into a cheaper version of Ventura Bros?
This just comes across as western seethe.
"Haha look how stupid anime is! our show better".
Just like anytime they denigrate video games. Just absolute rage at competing forms of entertainment.
I don't think it's supposed to be mocking.
It’s better than just outright ripping off anime
Oh baby, do we wanna open that can of worms?
Sure, why not?
What hair style is this with the long bangs in front of the ears, anyway?
Layered hair, I think?
Applause and breathable fluid are not rip-offs.
The last shot is obviously a visual gag.
The only time Steven Universe took elements from Evangelion in a substantial way is in the finale with the drip of water signifying Steven's mental transformation.
Standing around a main character in an evenly spaced circle applauding him is though
>family guy/rick and morty/simpsons
Stuff drawn by boomers/gen xers who think anime is "that weird jap shit with robots".
>steven was molested as a kidverse
Drawn by older millennial hipsters born in the 1980s who have a very passing understanding of anime circa 1998 who get mad when you say they're a poser (because they know they are).
>Adult cartoons don't understand anime at all and use broad stereotypes and tropes that've been outdated since the 90s
>Kids cartoons either outright rip off characters and ideas or shove the easter eggs and references in your face
This is the only moment that hate is justified, it is the laziest copy of all.
>character has grey hair and yellow eyes
>this is a ripoff of my generic boring MC's favorite wienergobbler!
It's the personality and vocal performance too.
Surprised they didn’t get Ryoko’s voice actor for Eda
>It's the personality
The personality of "I fell in love with you the moment I saw you, MC-kun! Please let me gargle your balls uguuuuu~"?
Yeah, someone never watched the show
>Ryoko is typically shown as an attractive, semi-reformed powerful space pirate who is madly in love with the series main character
>Ryoko universally holds an intense rivalry with the character Ayeka, who also fights for Tenchi's affections
>Tenchi found her and it was almost love at first sight (for her, of course)
Uh huh. Sure, buddy.
Not denying it’s like that, but that’s a bit too simple way to describe her
It’s pretty accurate and not that similar to the woman in TOH
>>this is a ripoff of my generic boring MC's favorite wienergobbler!
Sorry you're salty that Tenchi can canonically one shot One Punch Man, Goku and Luffy without breaking a sweat and married half a dozen women and a spaceship cat.
That show you like so much is a poor man's discount mahou shoujo homosexual. Cope and seethe.
Amphibia, The Owl House and, Steven Universe are the absolute worse when it comes to this. No other western cartoons come close to being this cringe with the blatant poorly done and integrated references/allusions.
>anime references are.... LE BAD???
Unironically yes
I don’t even like TOW but calling this a rip off is such a stretch
That’s more of a millennial thing.
Is weird seeing cartoons post 2000 still using the most surface level anime parodies around. You'll think the generation that grew up with Toonami on tv and anime OVA in their videostore would know how anime looks like.
They do. But the people that they need to appease to greenlight scripts are still mostly the same crusty bastards that were in those positions 20-30 years ago. If the joke doesn't "make sense" to them, they assume its a bad joke. Because they didn't get it.
An anime parody? Like that sailor moon stuff, right? Oh you want to do a pop culture reference? Like Goodfellas! Everyone still loves that movie! Etc.
What happens when the entire show is an anime parody?
Megas was interesting. It was full of anime references but still felt very American.
But what about Eureka's 2011 Christmas Special?
it did a strange parody of cartoons that was a mish-mash of Hanna Barbera, Ruby Spears and Disney, so it's funny that it wasn't only their interpretation of anime that was butchered. Then a spot-on Rankin/Bass claymation part. Lastly the vid below which looked cool but I wouldn't be so sure if to call it anime
BTW: This is all because of a device that turned the town into a cartoon, and in one scene they flash between various styles, one being South Park's, as far as I remember.
its been a while since ive seen it, but that holiday special didnt have that red haired hag felicia day in it, did it?
I think it didn't, though that's the only episode I've ever caught kek. Was she a regular or there something wrong with her?
she was a regular for a couple of seasons
she fricked the nerd guy
she became a regular then a poochie
clearly don't know what anime is
It's more that creators know what anime is but can't portray it accurately because then their audience might realize they could be watching a better show.
It's like why everyone here creates strawmen.
unfortunately no one successful has watched anime past the year 2000
Eh, better than just "akira bike slide, sailor moon hair, and dbz hair" for the 50th time
I swear I see that damn slide once again
I'd colour the bike with the shades of the construction beam but Photoshop is a b***h
Simpsons did it better than any adult animated show including modern Simpsons.
Does anyone know some good anime parodies in cartoons?
Mock 5 from Dexter's Lab. It's spot on to how Speed Racer is.
Megas XLR whenever it's referencing anime, the Voltron parody in particular.
Regular Show's anime episode is just nonstop Gundam references
It'd also great because they tied it all into toy companies and how shitty the Regular Show toys were.
This was a good episode, but not as good as the sperm episode.
You know, unironically Rick and Morty could do a pretty great spoof of modern isekai shows for an episode. Rick and Morty find some isekai protagonist in one of their adventures who is flabbergasted to finally find someone else from Earth, who keeps trying to justify all of the creepy/shitty typical isekai stuff they have done as "Hey, I didn't ASK to get dropped in another dimension without warning. I had to adapt!"
"Yeah, you adapted yourself a harem of slaves too scared to leave you because you kill everything who doesn't kiss your ass. You're just a sexual predator with a marketable self-insert backstory."
Etc.
Isn't this basically just the Froopyland episode?
cringe
Cinemaphile sheer anal devastation if an episode like that aired would be fricking hilarious. The show would be impossible to discuss afterwards.
You see that would actually be a good parody because it would require actual knowledge of isekai tropes.
That fluid is a stretch I agree, but the congratulations clapping gag was pure rip off.
Also Lapis' design was straight up stolen.
> slaves too scared to leave you because you kill everything who doesn't kiss your ass.
so how is this any different from rick?
Because it wouldn't be Rick.
Rick and Morty runs on protagonist-centered morality.
It isn't, Rick is just a hypocrite. That is why it could be a good episode.
this is a shot in the dark, but does anyone remember the show out of jimmy's head having an evangelion reference in it or was that a fever dream? I can't find the series anywhere and even if I did I wouldn't wanna comb through it unless someone else can confirm this
This?
This seems to be a Gurren Lagann reference, of all things they could have referenced
It's easy to forget that animators are animation fans. But this would probably be a little after Gurren Laggan releeased so you get a scene where you need to make a mech and you just watched Gurren Laggan so you decide to have some fun.
It's Old enough to air on SciFi's animondays. SCI FI'S Animondays not SyFy's animondays
the penguin's mech looks like the magitek armors from final fantasy
Damn is Lagan really that old? Isn't this like 08?
For me it was already old in 2009
>Out of Jimmy's Head
>mechs are based on the show that themed its mecha after faces
Pottery xajw0k
I think South Park did it best where they stuck with that Ninja Scroll Street Fighter style and it overall just being the boy's imagination.
The biggest problem with reusing the same references for the same 5 anime/manga is that there are tens if not hundreds of weird anime/manga with interesting and fun scenario that would make for enjoyable reference episodes.
>Not all these autistic virgins getting upset at anime parodies
Oh I'm sorry your highness, is that not one of the approved things to be upset about? Would you rather we write essays about abortion or wage reform?
>no one mentioned Ballmastrz: 9009 yet
For shame, Cinemaphile. For shame.
What makes the anime parody scenes so enjoyable is that it doesn't take itself seriously. It's aware that it's a shitty parody and just rolls with it, instead of trying too hard to appeal to weebs
Things that are shitty on purpose are still shitty.
Boomers only know Voltron and Speed Racer.
It will be interesting to see what references we will get if millennials are ever allowed creative control.
Have you not seen Steven Universe and OKKO?
Anon, what year do you think it is? Millennials are running the show right now.
Tbh I don't mind anime references if they are kept as a just a token of appreciation and not as a replacement for narrative because I like anime myself and one day if I ever get the chance to make an animated series myself I would include such a reference be it as a computer sticker or key chain if I don't something more creative in mind.
It works when the references are subtle and not memberberries shit
>REMEMBER THE AKIRA SLIDE GUYS!! LOOK HE'S DOING THE AKIRA SLIDE!!
Anime is better.
Anime is better than Rick and Morty.
Was it kino, Cinemaphile?
no
Kys Sperg
Sperg already lost in that episode, give him a break
This too.
I love how they got the artstyle to mimic the Goku Vs Piccolo Jr era artstyle
