The real reason he, and by extension Cartoonist Kayfabe, sucks is because they only bring on people they think will grow the channel. They never bring on anyone new or current or up and coming. It's always people old enough for Ed to call them "Uncle ____". Pretty much every guest did their most notable stuff in their career decades ago. The only current comics they ever talk about are during the episode's 10 minutes of plugs. Unless someone comes with decades worth of fans they aren't worth discussing or interviewing.

I have only seen them mention a few modern things because they aren't like active readers reading newer stuff, they don't have pull lists etc. At least with them it was free from the political stuff or the idiots who just read wiki summaries. There isn't a channel I can think of who properly talks about up and comers in a decent way.

Do you think anyone remembers what movies played at the theatre when Star Wars was on? They remember Star Wars. Heck the Golden Age of Cinema had several times as many B reel movies as A reel movies, all samey westerns, comedies and musicals.
Comics were literally born from pulps, porn and strips. They were considered disposable entertainment. They battled for relevance. For as much good stuff as there has been there has been just as much forgotten stuff. For every big hit there has been stuff that failed. Time distilled it down. Stuff was lost, forgotten.
Living in the present means you have a much harder time finding stuff because content is constantly being created.

My problem current media is mainly aesthetic. So much comic art is sterile looking, generic, and the coloring is horrible digital shit (I hate most current movies & TV for the same reason, CGI sucks). I'm sure there are some well-written comics out there, but if the art is digi-shit I can't get past that. AI is about to make the situation 1000 times worse.
I'm guessing this is part of what drew people to CK, one of the few channels to focus on that traditional DIY raw aesthetic. It was also one of the big criticisms of the channel, that they focused more on process than content. But whatever, there are those of us who vibe with that more than nerding out over storylines.
