I really hope someone steals their format about aiming a camera at the books and reading them. I realized the commentary most of the time wasn't even that good, especially when you compare them to people that actually were in the industry like Richard Friend. Friend did a review of the bodybags Jason pearson books, and the first issue of danger girl and actually described why why page layout works, and tricks of the trade, and why certain choices were made. Well, for one thing, I met him once at a grocery store. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a pain and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

Don't know about that FB group, but judging from the comments on their videos most of their viewers seemed to be either older or into older comics. As for lib, that could mean a lot of different things (a lot of us 90s kids were the first wave of being accepting of gay people and more liberal-minded, but that's a far cry from the bizarro world twitter mobs, identity politics and language policing of today's 'left').

So, as someone who's a member of one of these groups, there was a big point of contention because one was just finished last year; a Death of Superman redraw based on ed asking for a more brutal, violent version compared to Jurgens and company's house style look. Then it's a whole big thing because the person in charge sent it to Ed and they just sort of glazed past it. So a lot of people took offense.
...but if you actually look at the contributors, it's easy to see why. Enthusiasm is good, but most of the contributors just didn't cut the mustard.
No offense to this kid who drew this(actually he's like 30 no joke), but who the frick would think this is presentable? this dumbass even asked "does it have to be finished inks and colors or can I just send pencils?" Sim is still deeply respected among comic creators from the 70s and 80s for basically publishing a comic all by himself and a skeleton crew he ended up alienating after his increasing mental episodes. Even Neil Gaiman had to admit he admired him and the better parts of Cerebus. Gerhard sold his part of Cerebus back to Dave (or he bought it from him) and still draws the character from time to time, but wants nothing to do with Sim due to the latter's current views.

Berserk’s writing is nothing impressive or nuanced. The scale and epic quality is engaging and immersive, but in a piecemeal basis nothing about the writing has any impressive depth. Which is fine, I think the American fandom makes a bigger deal out of it than the adventure tale it is.
When you're comparing Berserk to most comics those guys talk about, Berserk is head and shoulders above them. Is it as good as a real book? No. Is it better than 90% of Marvel and DC stuff? Yes!

Not really. They’ll appreciate the art but lament that the best writers they got were still a step behind the art. They shit on Dennis O’Neil who’s one of the better aged writers(Green Lantern /green arrow aside, and even then Neal Adams really wrote those issues). The only writer they give a fair pass to is maybe Chris Claremont and that’s mostly Ed Piskor paying his dues

If anyone here is familiar with the Indie Comics Creator Con (fairly new indie-centric comic convention in Connecticut), I went to it as a vendor and was told by some friends that the original plan was for it to be the Cartoonist Kayfabe convention. Makes sense given a lot of the other people there are either Kayfabe adjacent or apart of some Kayfabe collective that publish their own anthology.
Apparently the comix well spring people (printer company hosting the con) had a conversation with Rugg and Piskor where they both had a bunch of insane demands, pure ego stuff. The best was that they apparently wanted 2 thrones for both of them to sit on in the center of the convention hall. So yeah.

The past few days I've seen threads like this reach almost 700 posts. I've seen bot threads reach bump limit. I've seen same threads that get posted every few days full up with comments. I've seen culture war threads over media literacy and stuff go on and on. I make a thread trying to talk about actual comics. Reaches 30-something replies. That's it. Maybe I'm salty and bitter but what is the point in this place. No one likes comics. No one likes the medium. No one was posting CK threads about the topics they were talking about. I don't know what to think, this is a developing story with only partial information. But I do know that 90% of the participants here are ghouls pushing their own politics, agenda or just trolling.
