I expect it to be disappointing.

i read the first three lines and that's some really weak parody right there, you don't get the spirit of mccarthy's writing at all. it's ok to despise his writing if you can pull of a competent parody but this ain't it

you anons should try the audiobook. The lack of punctuation actually makes sense in a speaking style (where people never really end their sentences).
I tried to read the book after and I couldnt grasp it as well as I could with the audiobook
I might actually try that. It never struck me as something I need to read, but it seems to get some traction, maybe I should give it a try.
Thanks for the tip.
Seriously, this is the best pick for le Judge I have seen this far, there's something about this guy's vibe where he could definitely play a villain of uncanny, otherworldly intelligence. I hope he's really tall.
He would be an amazing judge. Plus having an amazing voice. Real menacing but I think he is too old now. It’s a shame. Maybe make up could save but idk. How old is the judge anyways?
Cowboys were often quite young when they lived off the land, I hope they don't cast too many of them as 50-60 year old scalp hunters. I would cast a younger millennial or older zoomer for Toadvine like this guy. I always pictured Toadvine as half-starved and half-insane even in his best moments, he's got to go around the entire movie with letters carved into his forehead.
INT. LAND CRUISER BOUNCING ACROSS GODFORSAKEN EARTH - DAY
Three hooded souls, their fates obscured by cloth, sit watched over by the grim cadre of East European militia. A fourth, the driver, steers this beast of burden, beside him a man of spectacles, his countenance etched with worry.
EXT. FORLORN AIRSTRIP, EASTERN EUROPE - DAY
Here lies an airstrip, casting long shadows over a city besieged by the thunder of artillery. A solitary figure of the Agency, devoid of any mark of the land he stands on, is guarded by his own phalanx of warriors. He watches as the Land Cruiser halts with a violence born of urgency. The militia disembarks swiftly.
The driver, forceful, propels the spectacled man before this Agency man.
CIA MAN:
Dr. Pavel, I’m CIA.
Dr. Pavel, a nod, his spirit frayed by the unspoken threats that hang dense around them. The CIA Man exchanges a briefcase with the driver.
BARSAD:
He did not journey here alone.
The CIA Man’s brow furrows, eyes catching the sight of the hooded figures. He addresses Dr. Pavel.
CIA MAN:
You don’t get to bring friends.
DR. PAVEL:
They are not my friends.
BARSAD:
No toll for their passage.
CIA MAN:
And why would I take them?
BARSAD:
They sought to seize what you claim. (a smile cuts across his face) They serve the mercenary. The masked one.
CIA MAN:
(excited) Bane?
Barsad nods just once. The CIA Man turns to his band of soldiers.
You homosexuals kept asking and asking for the adapted. Why? Do you like good things being raped and worn as a skin suit like invasian of the body snatchers? I hate you homosexuals so much. Thank God Hollywood will never go near gene wolfe

Maybe if he shaves all of his hair and goes on a super-bulk for like two years and also invested in experimental roid treatments so he could be taller than 5'6".
I cringed too many times whenthe judge spoke, hes just alien who ruins the feel of the story. Glanton was great all the way through and has a good death. Also noway are they gpioing to film white men stomping injun baby heads.
It's like saying Diomedes >>>> Agamemnon. Yeah I like Glanton way more, he's a tangible and more heroic man and not intentionally written as a spooky Satan/Odin etc type of malevolent immortal. The Judge has moments like the story fighting the Apache but he's more critical to the story than Glanton.

Who should play based Glanton? >there’s only one israelite character in the book >gets out-jewed by Glanton
>I thought the price was agreed? >Until some money changes hands ain’t nothing agreed
>he calls every non-white either a >black Black person >brown Black person >red Black person
He is also my favorite, the passage with him at the campfire near the end should be used in philosophy classes on the topic of free will. the real Glanton had a crazy life too that’s barely touched on in the book (31 when he died).
no idea who should play him though, but I wouldn’t be mad if it was Tom Hardy. he can do crazy eyes
Black person
its seems racist at first then you release at the bar scene, they've all developed this bond (apart from the homosexual kid) it was all bantz.
it's but it was absolutely a brutal life and a young man's game. I wouldn't mind seeing Wyatt Russell give it a shot as Glanton. He was a pro athlete, he's been greag in the few things I've seen him in. He could rise to the occasion better than any of the other nepos probably.
He’s awesome, he did an amazing job with Suttree and The Crossing as well. Not sure why he didn’t get paid to do every McCarthy book, nobody else does them justice. Always thought it was funny how he even does the female character voices, they weren’t terrible either.
it's not that violent, it just has the most effective use of violent prose which sticks with you forever because you saw, smelled, tasted and cringed from every battle scene
If we made this in the 60's I would do Fred Gwynne as the Judge, Clint Walker as Glanton. Jason Robards as Tobin. Steve McQueen as Toadvine.
Kurt Russel as the kid, then wait like 20 years and finish production in the 80's right before The Thing. Directed by Peckinpah, of course. He was supposed to make Jeremiah Johnson with Clint Eastwood, then it when to those hacks (still kino tho).
Gwynne’s features are too sharp for Judge; Arness would be a better fit. I’d be hesitant to cast anyone else as tall as 6ft to make Judge look as big as possible, but Glanton I could see Eastwood or McQueen even though Paul Newman would be my first choice. For Toadvine, Bronson. I wouldn’t know for the fricking Kid, maybe Ron Howard?
Friendly reminder that Clint Eastwood was like 6'5 in his prime and his hands were so big that he made those 5 pound navy colts in the dollars trilogy look like normal sized revolvers.
It’s why I’d be hesitant to cast him at all, but height aside he’s very easy to see in the role of Glanton. Henry Fonda too, but he would’ve been too old.
Zhaler really made Bone Tomahawk work so well because if you cut a minute or two of footage out, it's just a pretty traditional old school Western. He used horror to make it feel fresh.
bone tomahawk was elevated by kurt russell imo. it was a great premise with great execution though. zahlher is underrated by current hollywood feminist woke crowd
Yeah he uplifted the whole project. He works good with humor, somberness, action, terror, intensity, anything. I really like Billy Bob Thornton, Woody Harrelson and others in those older generations but none of them that come to mind would have pulled off that sheriff role so well.
Dragged was decent enough and well done but the way it was written was just too fricked up and pointless, like it wasn't fun enough to be a good exploitation movie for me. I hated myself for laughing at some of the fricked up parts kek. For me, the next best Zhaler kino is Brawl.

i always marathon them all. brawl is awesome too just the premise is too depressing. i like that in dragged at least someone profits and has a happy ending

That's understandable. In a fricked up way I found Brawl more uplifting. If Vaughn's character would have stuck to his principles and not folded to his boss he would have made it out. In that way the story almost had a subtle moral, which is rare for Zahler.

He says he is pretty far into negotiations for his fourth film
yeah The Road is a relatively simple narrative, I hope they have enough depth to capture this one
McCarthy's getting a writing credit but I don't know if that means he's going to be part of actually developing the screenplay or he just gets a credit because they're lifting lines directly from the book
>McCarthy's getting a writing credit but I don't know if that means he's going to be part of actually developing the screenplay or he just gets a credit because they're lifting lines directly from the book
He said he was working on the actual screenplay script (before he died)
Why did the Judge go from being part of their group to hunting them down again?
Was it just his own moral standard like with everything else of study catalog and then destroy or was there more to it?
I got kinda filtered by the last third of the book
Imo it was because the kid refused to sell him his gun, powder and bullets. Then, he outclassed the Judge, the Judge of all people when they were being chased by the Yuma across the desert and the kid pulled off those shots that no one else could. He was more adept at one thing, and it made the Judge seethe.
This was enough "mutiny" in the Judge's mind. Though if someone else has an interpretation I'd love to hear it.
i think you're view on it is good, imo, i think the kid just didnt bond well with the others. the kid never is described as taking part in the killings of he book. but he can pull crazy shots like he did so maybe he was killing but we the reader never get to see clearly the extent to which he partakes in the killings and crimes. i think the Judge being angry at the kid is for that reason. He never felt he was swallowed up in the fervor of killing and war like the others, like glanton or the Indians and Mexicans who chased them. at the bar when the kid is grown up, the judge tells him this much, that he MUST dance. the dance must be done. The kid, now the Man, refused still. He was not smittin by Holdens words, he couldn't be classified as Holden wanted him to be, and so kid had to die. all my view on it. sorry about the blog post.
Don't apologize anon. That's exactly it, what I failed to articulate. It was his almost Christian hesitance to avoid the "ritual" of blood, like the Kid just didn't hear the same music as everyone else. Everything and everyone else had a purpose in the grander order according to the Judge, except the kid. That's exactly it anon.
>the kid just didn't hear the same music as everyone lese
i think thats an important line and a succinct way of putting his character as written in the book. Ill have to use that when i describe to others my feelings on the book irl if you dont mind.
Without irony, I really meant that btw. I had thought and thought about what that speech near the end meant only partially getting it until your post. It gives the whole story into a new light.
Imo it was because the kid refused to sell him his gun, powder and bullets. Then, he outclassed the Judge, the Judge of all people when they were being chased by the Yuma across the desert and the kid pulled off those shots that no one else could. You’re both right I think. It was the kid being a dead-eye marksman (superior war skill) but holding in his heart some mercy for the indians and the other gang members. He was an abomination in the judge’s mind. As far as selling him his gun and powder, the judge would have killed him no question imo. When the judge refers to Davy and Toadvine as being “in possession of the fruits of their election” is a carefully worded way of saying “dealing with the consequences of their actions” ie - in prison awaiting execution. The judge turned them both in for their bounty money and the suit and derringer pistol he had was bought with it.
He doesn’t rape the kid in the stall at the end like lots of ytube idiots say. The ghastly thing in the outhouse is the little dancing bear girl, who was now missing.
ahh yes, the sharp mind behind skyfall, lel lel lel lel lel. but whatever, writers don't matter, it's all about a director, they oversee scripts and can cut/add anything they like, on a daily basis. john hillcoat is a good, experienced director, but not prestigious enough. this film needs to be helmed by gibson, coppola, scorsese, joel coen etc.
>A man's at odds to know his mind cause his mind is aught he has to know it with. He can know his heart, but he dont want to. Rightly so. Best not to look in there. He’d need to put on weight. I think he’s a bit too old and not imposing enough

Terrible choice at any age.

Does Will Sasso have any dramatic range? Because he looks quite a bit like the Judge
here is your judge Holden.
this. he was LITERALLY made to play the judge. if they don't get glenn fleshler to play him, i have 0 fricking hope in this adaptation.
Shut up Glenn
not him man i just think his portrayal as errol childress in true detective was pretty damn close as to what i thought the judge was

yep that's what i've been thinking. cast a bunch of randos who display the requisite talent and fit the roles
Yep, I agree. Borderline too old maybe but frick it

Pic related as the kid (with long greasy hair)
Also John Brolin with receding hairline as Toadvine
They should just cast an actual annunaki giant which is clearly what muh Judge is based on. Just fetch one from wherever the illuminati hide them.
Would be perfect casting when considering both his look and his marketability.
The kid?
Its weird that you can have a chin and cheeks etc chiselled out of granite and still have a weak jaw line
Because he has a really high jaw and inverted middle jawline
the kid is 15. maybe the moron who gets killed by the black guy.
the guy who played thanos should be the judge, timothee can play the kid idc

Brolin is a gigamanlet.

>It makes no difference what men think of war, war endures. As well ask men what they think of stone. War was always here. Before man was, war waited for him. The ultimate trade awaiting its ultimate practitioner. That is the way it was and will be. That way and not some other way.

BAH GAWD, KING. THAT'S JUDGE HOLDEN'S MUSIC.
This dude is the mayor of the county i live in.
he came to our college republicans meeting and sang a parody of "12 days of Christmas" but replaced "Christ" with "Biden" and sung about his policies.
he made us sing along
>he made us sing along
The collegecuck fears the Big Red Machine
Lyrics were along the lines of
>On the 1st day of Bidenmas, Biden gave to me
>1 Border Crisis
>And malarkey from the DNC
God that is based. Moreso the fact that he made others sing it with him.
Like I said, he was a pretty cool guy. He apologized for not being able to stop Californians from moving to Tennessee.

hillcaot is still making it. logan is writing it. Mcarthy helped with some of the writing. both Mcarthy and his son are getting executive producer credits.
looks like it'll actually happen.
I expect it to be disappointing.
Cormac is the only author whose films are better than books. His writing style is fricking horrible
Bad take fren, sorry. His writing is beautiful and trust me I hate purple prose unless it's done right.
It’s bad. Uses $10 words constantly and his take on punctuation is as shit as it gets
Sorry to say this anon but you are a contrarian, a pseud, and a homosexual.

Black person IT WOULDN'T KILL YOU TO SAY WHO THE FRICK IS TALKING RIGHT NOW
ah, blood meridian, monsieur? that novel is the sark and chaparral of literature, the filament whereon rode the remuda of highbrow, corraled out of some destitute hacienda upon the arroya, quirting and splurting with main and with pyrolatrous coagulate of lobated grandiloquence. our eyes rode over the pages, monsieur, of that slatribed azotea like argonauts of suttee, juzgados of swole, bights and systoles of walleyed and tyrolean and carbolic and tectite and scurvid and querent and creosote and scapular malpais and shellalagh. we scalped, monsieur, the gantlet of its esker and led our naked bodies into the rebozos of its mennonite and siliceous fauna, wallowing in the jasper and the carnelian like archimandrites, teamsters, combers of cassinette scoria, centroids of holothurian chancre, with pizzles of enfiladed indigo panic grass in the saltbush of our vigas, true commodores of the written page, rebuses, monsieur, we were the mygale spiders too and the devonian and debouched pulque that settled on the frizzen studebakers, listening the wolves howling in the desert while we saw the judge rise out of a thicket of corbelled arches, whinstone, cairn, cholla, lemurs, femurs, leantos, moonblanched nacre, uncottered fistulas of groaning osnaburg and kelp, isomers of fluepipe and halms awap of griddle, guisado, pelancillo.
i read the first three lines and that's some really weak parody right there, you don't get the spirit of mccarthy's writing at all. it's ok to despise his writing if you can pull of a competent parody but this ain't it
it's pasta newbies, stop getting butthurt on behalf of a dead author
no one's butthurt. pasta or not it's shit
shit's not even funny, he never used words arbitrarily like that, he had the real writer's instinct for the mot juste at every turn
He used obscure words arbitrarily all the fricking time
Shitty attempt at parody. Here is a good parody for you to learn from:
This is just as shit as the other one. A giant run-on sentence full of phrases and fragments the author uses.
You have not read GRRM if you don't find this hilarious
Get rid of those commas and add 35 and’s
yeah it's fricking weird he posted replying to other two anonymous posters then he added I often had to re-read a few paragraphs back but he knew he will probably be shitposted by random homosexuals after writing this post
you anons should try the audiobook.
Thanks for the tip.
cormick
I always pictured this dude as the Judge.
Same. He's too old now, though.
It's better to burn out than fade away
I can totally see it. This guy's face looks noble, sensual, cruel, intelligent.
Yes, another good pick, whoever this guy is. There's an innocence to him but also grit and smarts.
Seriously, this is the best pick for le Judge I have seen this far, there's something about this guy's vibe where he could definitely play a villain of uncanny, otherworldly intelligence. I hope he's really tall.
Clancey Brown is 6' 3"
King of the manlets
He would be an amazing judge. Plus having an amazing voice. Real menacing but I think he is too old now. It’s a shame. Maybe make up could save but idk. How old is the judge anyways?
the judge is ageless. he is a giant, hairless man that has a baby face.
Maybe Idris Elba?
Actual genius idea
No, hes a perfect glanton.
kino
His name was judge holden
After watching Barton Fink, I can really see Goodman as the judge. Its basically the same character he played.
John Goodman doesn’t look or sound like John Goodman anymore.
I dont know what he looks like now, but this is how I pictured "the kid"
Me too. BTW, I have listened to the audiobook like 3 times, it is fricking perfect.
I like this guy from Dances with Wolves as Toadvine
That movie is 30 years old and he has been dead for 20, anon.
>he has been dead for 20 years
hmmmm, not an ideal casting then.
we need someone that looks like him then
Cowboys were often quite young when they lived off the land, I hope they don't cast too many of them as 50-60 year old scalp hunters.
CIA MAN:
Get ’em on board - I’ll call it in.
Black folk, ain't it? Black person ears by god
jim carrey as the judge. just kidding
Please don't give Bautista the role.
i'm scared of that too. holy shit that homie cannot act
Trips of truth, that homie made an antifa movie too. I will always hold that against him
t. chud
>women, whiskey and Black folk
You homosexuals kept asking and asking for the adapted. Why? Do you like good things being raped and worn as a skin suit like invasian of the body snatchers? I hate you homosexuals so much. Thank God Hollywood will never go near gene wolfe
Bruh what happened to /ourguy/ Mickey?
>Thank God hollywood will never go near gene wolfe
Amen to that.
We get statements like this every year for the past decade
Here's your John Glanton bro
The Kid is 100% going to be black btw
That would suck. I’m sure the gang will be multiracial and the judge will be Dwayne Johnson in whiteface
He will become a supportive father figure and help the Glanton gang end racism, fostering in a new age. An America of ideals, etc.
>I’m sure the gang will be multiracial
Anon...
The one guy who isn't white is "the Black person". Face it fellas, this movie isn't going to get made. Ever.
It's probably for the best.
In an ideal world he'd be the Judge, but he's just too old for it now.
?t=59
Daniel Day Lewis as the Judge
Hunter Schaffer as The Kid
Throw in a two hour scene of full penetration where Judge Holden buckbreaks The Kid and I'm in.
Hunter as one of the naked prostitutes at the end
First, we'll need to invent a time machine so we can cast John Goodman from 20 years ago as the Judge.
its crazy they made a live action fred flintstones movie with him
macauley caulking as the judge , imo
Maybe if he shaves all of his hair and goes on a super-bulk for like two years and also invested in experimental roid treatments so he could be taller than 5'6".
Cormac MacDonald
>Glanton>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I cringed too many times whenthe judge spoke, hes just alien who ruins the feel of the story. Glanton was great all the way through and has a good death. Also noway are they gpioing to film white men stomping injun baby heads.
It's like saying Diomedes >>>> Agamemnon. Yeah I like Glanton way more, he's a tangible and more heroic man and not intentionally written as a spooky Satan/Odin etc type of malevolent immortal. The Judge has moments like the story fighting the Apache but he's more critical to the story than Glanton.
Well, at least is not James Franco
That's optimistic of you.
>Franco
He wouldn't have made The Kid black
Kurt Cobain as the KId , Marilyn Manson as the Judge
Manson nowadays would be a great judge given he's a big fat goon.
His makeup budget has doubled
Do you think he could pull off the essential dance sequences?
Bowel Movement
Brock Lesnar as Holden
i think charlie chaplin should play the judge
kid rock as the kid
Who should play based Glanton?
>there’s only one israelite character in the book
>gets out-jewed by Glanton
>I thought the price was agreed?
>Until some money changes hands ain’t nothing agreed
>he calls every non-white either a
>black Black person
>brown Black person
>red Black person
Hillcoat obviously goes for Tom Hardy. Judge Fraser, The Kid is whatever it boy du jour.
Black person
its seems racist at first then you release at the bar scene, they've all developed this bond (apart from the homosexual kid) it was all bantz.
>He thinks we´re Black folk.
Kurt Russell
I can't remember how old he's supposed to be but frick it
Glanton irl was 30-something when he died.
Worth the discrepancy for some Russell-kino
No reason the character can't be old
it's but it was absolutely a brutal life and a young man's game. I wouldn't mind seeing Wyatt Russell give it a shot as Glanton. He was a pro athlete, he's been greag in the few things I've seen him in. He could rise to the occasion better than any of the other nepos probably.
Walton Goggins.
They're going to have a hard time finding someone willing to play a giant hairless albino pedophile
Guy Pearce for Toadvine is my vote
The audiobook by Richard Poe is great, he’s a 10/10 narrator. It helps with the archaic words too.
I listen to this and try to talk like this
lol I wish I could. he beats Sam Elliot for me as a Western voiceover
He’s awesome, he did an amazing job with Suttree and The Crossing as well. Not sure why he didn’t get paid to do every McCarthy book, nobody else does them justice. Always thought it was funny how he even does the female character voices, they weren’t terrible either.
>Blood Meridian Wishlist
>Director: Paul Verhoeven
>Date of Production: 1991
>Kid: Keanu Reeves
>Judge: Stacy Keach
Blood Meridian. The Most Violent Book of All Time
it's not that violent, it just has the most effective use of violent prose which sticks with you forever because you saw, smelled, tasted and cringed from every battle scene
Meant for
this is the right way to envisage a blood meridian adaptation. anything after CGI was introduced will inevitably suck. peckinpah would have crushed bm
Henry Fonda too, but he would’ve been too old.
s craig zhaler is the only director who could pull this off, and he hates blood meridian.
the road wasn't bad, homeboy might do a decent job. doubt it though
I really like Billy Bob Thornton, Woody Harrelson and others in those older generations but none of them that come to mind would have pulled off that sheriff role so well.
dragged across concrete is insane too. the violence in it pops off insanely well. i can still see the pregnant chick getting her fingers blown off
Dragged was decent enough and well done but the way it was written was just too fricked up and pointless, like it wasn't fun enough to be a good exploitation movie for me.
In that way the story almost had a subtle moral, which is rare for Zahler.
will we ever see another new zahler kino :O
He says he is pretty far into negotiations for his fourth film
He announced hes making the big stone grid
I think he hates it cuz he knows that Blood Meridian kinda inches in on the niche Brigands of Rattleborge occupies.
Blood Meridian is a guy's Atlas Shrugged
We knew the bloody Black folk were after us
>same writer and same director as The Road
It'll be good but not great
So it will be the best film of the year then?
The Road was good but it's completely different from Blood Meridian. Also Viggo elevated that movie to kino, as always.
yeah The Road is a relatively simple narrative, I hope they have enough depth to capture this one
Oh yeah he's dead lol
Rip
Hopefully he managed to get enough of the screenplay done that they can just fill in some blanks and get something usable for the movie.
You'd do me an honor then anon.
Without irony, I really meant that btw. I had thought and thought about what that speech near the end meant only partially getting it until your post. It gives the whole story into a new light.
More importantly, cast the cinematography / DP
Assassination of Jesse James or True Detective s1 cinematographer
Someone who can capture the desert and its psychedelic beauty is needed.
If "hack away you mean red Black person" isn't a direct line I'm walking out of the kinoplex
Same
Convinced only Lynch could direct this film, it needs to be a fever dream of insanity and visual masturbation, nothing else will do
He was weird but honestly a pretty cool guy. Hes like 7 feet tall too.
THE JUDGE
ahh yes, the sharp mind behind skyfall, lel lel lel lel lel. but whatever, writers don't matter, it's all about a director, they oversee scripts and can cut/add anything they like, on a daily basis. john hillcoat is a good, experienced director, but not prestigious enough. this film needs to be helmed by gibson, coppola, scorsese, joel coen etc.
>Blood Meridian by the Coens
>it's just Fargo without snow
I'd watch it.
Glenn Fleshler is the only choice for the Judge.
If they cast anyone else, it's dead on arrival.
unironically.
