A few months ago I went down a rabbit hole to find out if New York still has even one majority White gentile neighborhood left, not counting Staten Island.

Surprisingly there is one (1) Italian neighborhood left, Howard Beach in Queens. The last Irish neighborhood, Woodside, went majority-Filipino in the early 2000s.

But of a shot in the dark here but I’m planning to move to Chicago from Texas next month. I just need a change of scenery and I want city life and all 4 seasons, especially a summer that isn’t 100+ degrees for months on end.

What’s a good neighborhood for someone in his late 20s making about $70k/year (remote email job)? Looking for something walkable but not too loud/crazy. Somewhere with lots of high rises would be cool.

      >Quiet (some would say boring)
      >High rises along the lake
      >Would probably fit in your budget if you’re looking for a 1br
      >Decent transit access and fairly walkable

      West Town/Ukrainian Village
Multiple streets lined with busy places to go out to, 606 trail, a good mix of young professionals/families.
Logan Square/Humboldt Park if you're interested in picking up art school dropout hoes and paying less in rent. Or if you really like mexican food.

imagine having a remote job making 70k per year and moving to fricking chicago instead of like Bali or Thailand, hell if I had a job like that I'd just travel the world

Nta, but I'm 28 and just started fixing my shit life, I make 17 an hour working part time. I don't have a good credit score or anything but I was thinking about getting an IT administrator course certificate. I just am worried about AI and whether or not I'd be wasting my time.

I sell software to IT admins and spend a good chunk of every day talking to them. It seems like a pretty good gig and companies will always want a human hand on the wheel, even as they start outsourcing more of the actual tasks to AI. It’s a lot of putting out fires though… the only time anyone ever pays attention to you is when something is going wrong.

Texas “cities” are the most soulless places on earth, except maybe Austin but then you might as well just live in California.

I’d rather live in inner-city Chicago than an anonymous DFW suburb. Plus White people were not meant to live in such hot climates. My blood is telling me to rvtvrn to somewhere with snow and summers in the 80s.

If you’re into outdoor stuff and mountain sports, Salt Lake City is categorically better in every way.
If you want to live around a bunch of lefty stoners, just move to Seattle. It’s prettier and the weather is nicer.

Salt Lake city is both farther from mountains and more highway-y. It is safer and cleaner than Denver but it seems really boring.

Come on friend, SLC literally sits in a bowl of mountains. The metro area limits are defined on all sides by mountains. It takes 35 minutes to get from downtown to the Park City base area.

Yeah honestly SLC has way cooler mountains than Denver. But parts of Denver are practically right up next to the Rockies

      See

      Brick. inb4 the copypasta

Also, most of the housing stock in California was built immediately after WWII. Mostly cookie cutter bungalows built as cheap and fast as possible to accommodate the huge wave of GI’s who were returning home with a huge amount of disposable income and a taste for suburban life.

Developer built tens of millions of pic related from 1945-1965 and they might as well be made of cardboard. Absolute garbage.

Also, since the West Coast cities boomed after the advent of the car and during a time when single use zoning was very much in vogue and walkability was seen as something that would lead to urban blight.
