Chronicles of Riddick

Is this the most bizarre sequel ever?

First film: pitch Black
>Low sci-fi survival horror
>Riddick is just some dangerous criminal with weird eyes
It was a fun movie, but Riddick was the only interesting character.

Sequel: Chronicles of Riddick
>Is a full-blown space opera
>Riddick is now the last surviving member of an ancient warrior race
>He is fighting an evil Gothic death cult empire
>It is led by an evil wizard Emperor
>Half the movie takes place on a prison planet and it's completely detached from the rest of the plot
>Riddick kills the wizard Emperor and becomes the new Emperor

It's such a strange movie. It is such a massive genre shift. And it also feels like two completely different movies smashed together, the space opera and the Prison Planet.
And it somehow manages to be absolute Kino!

The second riddick movie was pure kino, it's what the aesthetic of nu dunc should have been. Horrible opinion.

2nd movie was kino and 3rd movie was kino. better than the first

The first and third are more similar, I think both are great but probably prefer 3 despite the constant use of cgi. I've seen the first a lot more though.

Riddick is extremely overrated. The movie only gets good when Santana arrives and stops being good the second he dies. The presentation isn't good enough to carry the entire first act on Diesel's mediocre screen presence and the third act doesn't have good chemistry between any of the remaining characters. I'll pick Chronicles over it any day.

The whole arc for the chick pilot is that she went from wanting strong borders so she wouldn't crash and burn to dying for these 3 archetypes.
Riddick even uses it to his advantage, but they present it in a way where it makes him seem like a good guy because it's a twist that the criminal has these morals.

Its not dark and I don't think all Furyans have eye shine. But Vaako said there was another Furyan who did at least. Maybe even Riddick's dad. In any case, it retcons him getting the eye shine in prison. Which Chronicles already kinda did when Keira was mad at him that there was no eye shine doctor in her prison.

    >Yes, she learned a valuable lesson to save under privileged races and classes, including a wholesome prisoner that is heckin' based at killing aliems.
    >I will now devolve into a manchild and seek libtarded females that have been molded by similar liberal israeli propaganda.
    >Hell, in 20 years, I'll even talk about it on imageboards.

Ok, listen up. You know that pang in your chest, your heart area, where you experience love, when the white woman, the gal who's breasts you got to see in some nice cleavage shots, the woman with the voice you learned to adore, the one that made good decisions and overcame not only her own faults in empathy but became the leader people assumed her to be (because of her skin color privilege), when she died?
That was misdirection. What the movie was doing was programming a sense of normality, that white people should sacrifice themselves for the greater good. The greater good in this case are the characters that survived. The characters that died, died due to their vices. The kids were too curious and spergious. One was villainous. One was a drug addict. One was an alcoholic. The list goes on. The purest survivors were the moralist criminal brown Riddick, the black muslim that had faith in God, and the teenager female that posed as a male and acted like a male, a troony before modern politics.

Look at white women in current year. They will die on the sword for non-whites robbing the world of their greatness because they've been deceived, and most men are not willing to care for these angels because in many cases they can't. They are too far gone or brainwashed.

Now if you're reading this and calling me an idiot because you think Pitch Black was a great movie, you are a cucked homosexual nuked by israelitelight in psychological warfare operations using movies to infiltrate your mind masquerading as entertainment. Look up what "entertainment" means in latin and then learn how to tie a noose to have a nice day because it's fricking over.

anon i just watched the film and you are correct it is deeply subversive. from the portrayal of a woman as a leader in any respect to the portrayal as the law figure as a corrupt drug using coward. but you are correct the worst is the hijacking of the female mother instinct to protect and transferring that to the out-group.

Why can’t chronicles gays understand that we like riddick being a hardened criminal, not a homosexual marvel hero.

He softens up starting at the end of pitch black. It was a ‘getting back in touch with humanity’ subplot. Only comes off as superhero bullshit because of the way the last scene was shot. Twohy’s one mistake.

what I always liked about chronicles, ever since warching it with dad back in a day, is its confidence of its setting.
other sci fi/fantasy will have exposition about nature of force, or what magic rings are, hell even in Warhammer40k they had to explain everything about empror and his children
    and in riddick?
    >how can this guy rip a soul from somebody's body and teleport himself via some metaphysical change? well he is undead who escaped from underworld of course !
at it never fricking expands on it. it takes balls to tell audience to either accept the setting or frick off,
I can't think of other big budget movies that do that, and in videogames I can only think of Final Fantasy XIII

I haven't seen Pitch Black in over a decade but I remember it being a pretty decent action/horror movie when Riddick was more of a mysterious psychopath and not a mysterious mythical warrior and savior. It's closer to his Butcher Bay character also iirc. I still think Chronicles is the best movie in the series, it's a perfect popcorn movie just cool sci-fi action and no bullshit. The animated in-between is mandatory if you care at all about the story though which is unfortunate. Riddick 2013 was alright but lacked his cool persona. He needs to skirt the line between mary sue and badass in my opinion because that's what makes him scary. He's like evil Batman.

The 1st and 3rd riddick are basically the same movie, It genuinely could be a re imagining which is why 2 is nice because its the only actual sequel.

The costume design and setting was so kino. Need to rewatch this to recover from the dull soullessness that was Dune 2

I do wish they used it more, iirc they spend too long going off the rails with the prison thing

I didn't mind the fact that the movie flip flopped between the necromongers and riddick's prison break. I feel that it was a relatively fresh take on the chosen one plot. Riddick is never seen to be very active in fulfilling any sort of destiny, he's always depicted as a survivor and he just got caught up in other people's lives.
Also the previous lord marshals' statues were cool as frick.
