Is this the most bizarre sequel ever?
First film: pitch Black
>Low sci-fi survival horror
>Riddick is just some dangerous criminal with weird eyes
It was a fun movie, but Riddick was the only interesting character.
Sequel: Chronicles of Riddick
>Is a full-blown space opera
>Riddick is now the last surviving member of an ancient warrior race
>He is fighting an evil Gothic death cult empire
>It is led by an evil wizard Emperor
>Half the movie takes place on a prison planet and it's completely detached from the rest of the plot
>Riddick kills the wizard Emperor and becomes the new Emperor
It's such a strange movie. It is such a massive genre shift. And it also feels like two completely different movies smashed together, the space opera and the Prison Planet.
And it somehow manages to be absolute Kino!
For some reason there are "people" on this board who think it was good and think Riddick was a step backwards instead of a wise decision to pretend this nonsense never happened.
>I HATE FUN
The second riddick movie was pure kino, it's what the aesthetic of nu dunc should have been. Horrible opinion.
The first and third are more similar, I think both are great but probably prefer 3 despite the constant use of cgi. I've seen the first a lot more though.
>The second riddick movie was pure kino, it's what the aesthetic of nu dunc should have been. Horrible opinion.
That's how I felt watching DUNC 1 and 2. Everyone was talking about how cool Villavue's aesthetic was, and imo its just discount Chronicles of Riddick.
Pleb
It's just a remake of the first movie and an excuse to send Riddick back to square one for the fourth movie. Who am I kidding, they'll never be a fourth movie.
after all the money Fast and Furious made Vin Diesel must have enough clout to make a new one
And he's effectively done with being Groot for Marvel so he'll be a damn sight more available than before.
I can't imagine the groot role took up a lot of his schedule.
Riddick is extremely overrated. The movie only gets good when Santana arrives and stops being good the second he dies. The presentation isn't good enough to carry the entire first act on Diesel's mediocre screen presence and the third act doesn't have good chemistry between any of the remaining characters. I'll pick Chronicles over it any day.
It was cool and I like both.
Correct and based.
Riddick is a schizophrenic IP but it has managed to not miss once. Even the game was good.
It didn't pretend it ever happened, the Necromongers are the sole reason he gets stranded on another planet. Riddick claws his way back to their fleet to frick up Vaako.
>is that... a hint of creativity?
>AHHH SAVE ME SONY PICTURES SAVE ME DAMON LINDELOF PLEASE JUST MAKE THE FIRST MOVIE AGAIN I'M GOING INSAAANE
>save me Damon Lindelof!
lmfao
2nd movie was kino and 3rd movie was kino. better than the first
First movie is just boring
Chronicles was kino of the highest order.
Makes Pitch Black and the terrible sequel look like complete trash.
>Chronicles was kino of the highest order.
Are the Riddick movies worth watching? I don't care for Vin Diesel as an actor but the concept looks cool
He's Space Conan.
The first movie was OK but nothing to write home about.
The sequel is unironically KINO.
The third movie is tonally closer to the first but exceeds it at everything.
I think it is the first franchise where both sequels are way better than the first movie
okay you convinced me I'm gonna watch them
Chronicles of Riddick is one of the best films ever made.
I like all three.
the first two are kino
the third one tries to do too many things at once
Watch Pitch Black
Then play Escape from Butcher's Bay (not the remastered version)
stop there
Only Chronicles
It's not that odd
Alien: Low sci-fi survival horror
Aliens: Full-blown sci-fi 80s action blockbuster
The Necromonger Empire is so cool but they feel soo out of place being part of the the fricking Riddick franchise of all things. Their ascetic was peak
>Kino Gothic Space ascetic
>Kino lore
>Kino society
?si=r1iqYswtbFV7Bo5B
That wardrobe absolutely mogs dune
>plays lead necromonger after the big man himself
>gives the best take on Dredd to date
why does he not get a break as a big name actor
Also watch the OVA & play the games.
It's especially funny given how Pitch Black was an Alien 3 pitch.
>Chronicles of Riddick
most underrated movie ever.
Riddick trilogy is solid
>1st watch: This film is shit. Not at all worth of Pitch Black
>2nd watch: Its ok. I get what they were going for.
>3rd watch: You know, its quite good.
>4th watch: This is undeniably the greatest Sci-fi epic ever produced.
Why does everyone have the same experience with this film?
shit from 15 years ago looks like gold compared to what we have today.
its still shit though
It was one of my favourite movies of my childhood. Watched it many times and loved it.
All 3 were kino
Any other position is homosexual
It's a shame Vin focused on FF instead of Riddick
TwentiethPBP.
I saw all 3 in theaters and I'd do it again. Kino, kino, kino!
vin diesel himself is into DnD gaming. He is well into fantasy concepts so the whole necromonger-elementalist plot devices came partially from him. Much like the concept of riddick itself is derived from DnD rogue/assassin sets
watched pitch black last week, it was by far one of the worst movies i have ever seen in my life, sure it was good for a bunch of goofs and gaffs but it was a horrendously shot and directed movie.
>that must be why I'm still awake
one of the best introductions ever in a movie
CoR was kino of the highest order and im afraid of pretending its not
the costume designer should have won a award
>And it also feels like two completely different movies smashed together, the space opera and the Prison Planet.
It pretty much was. The space opera part was absolutely shit.
The prison arc is amazing in Chronicles of Riddick. I remember watching it over and over as a kid
Escape from Butcher bay is a great game
>We will never get the final part where Riddick travels to the Underverse and returns to Furya
It simply is not fair bros
riddick becomes a little too heroic, if he just let the piece of ass die to save himself they could've set up something more interesting, a total butthole who is also needed to save the universe.
I wanted more gritty survival kino like the first one, without the crazy over the top killing from the second two.
I do enjoy those movies but they are so different from the first it's jarring.
i enjoyed the third movie a lot but i really wish it had stayed with the survival on a strange planet angle that the opening had. my favorite part of the series by far.
Mine as well. Probably hard to have him keep getting stranded on strange planets and that's how we have such a weird Trilogy
I thought Pitch Black was phenomenal.
Had no clue people didn't care for it
It's news to me as well.
I think it's a bit of a cult classic, good only in the context of a lowish budget scifi slop. Objectively it's not that great, 7/10.
It's just odd to see so many praise the sequels over the first one.
It was a fine film, but the sequels are just so much more. It is a basic sci-fi survival horror and it does it well, but it's nothing you haven't seen before. The second movie is a one-of-a-kind film, while the third is just a way better version of the first.
>but it's nothing you haven't seen before
That's why I like it. If you want something like Alien, what else do you watch? Alien3?
Then why don't you like 3?
>Cooler monsters
>Better characters
>Better action
>Fun plot
>Cool kills
Makeup sequels made after the series takes a different direction always end up never feeling right. It's the same reason the riddick sequel that came out trying to do the same thing ended up being shit.
>Objectively it's not that great
>7/10.
Modern critical discourse has completely lost itself. On an "objective" scale, a 7/10 would be a great movie and worth viewing for all fans of the genre or actors involved.
A 7 out of 10 is a C grade. That's not great.
>C grade
>Letter grades?
Letter grades mean nothing and are arbitrary. A 7/10 is a great score.
I'm used to seeing tards say shit like that after IGN et. al. infected everyone's brains with the "8/10 it's okay" shit they did for a decade or two.
Pitch Black is a very subversive movie.
it's about a white man teaching a white woman to die for blacks, browns, and trans kids, while recognizing that white men that have vices are the enemy to all.
/misc/ has rotted your (smooth) brain
Prove me wrong.
She wants to dump the passengers.
White guy stops her, forces her to try her best, reminds her of her contract, he dies in the crash.
The only people that survive are riddick brown.
Black muslim.
And a girl that was posing as a boy that tricked everyone except riddick because he could smell her period.
The whole arc for the chick pilot is that she went from wanting strong borders so she wouldn't crash and burn to dying for these 3 archetypes.
Riddick even uses it to his advantage, but they present it in a way where it makes him seem like a good guy because it's a twist that the criminal has these morals.
>white pilot is the source of reason and stops woman from fricking everything up right out the gate
>woman fails to pass as a man
>brown man kills survivor out of pure moronation and later gets mauled to death
Don't see anything wrong here.
She didn't fail to pass. The whole cast thought she was a male except for a magical character that has an animal sense of smell.
The woman being in a decision making position is already subversive. If the roles were reversed, it would have been about cucking the male, and you'd acknowledge that.
>Brown man kills survivor
I don't even know what you're talking about. Riddick is the brown character.
You expect a drug addict, browns hailing from a culture that encourages covert sodomy and an alcoholic all fresh out of a crash landing to actively sniff out a dyke?
>if the roles were reversed
Now you're just fantasising about propaganda.
>i don't even know
The fat mystery meat ethan klein looking freak that shoots someone in the back of the head. Watch the fricking film.
I'm not fantasizing about propaganda. You dodged on that one.
The highest ranking pilot decided that severing sections of the ship would allow her to control safely. She was undermined by her crew on the premise of moral grounds. He died for it. Him and her were the only honorable, clean white people on the ship. The white passengers all had vices. The noble whites died for what was able to survive it all, a brown man, a black man, and a transgender.
You are making excuses for why the troony was able to pass to some.
Just frick off, israelite.
I was talking about characters that survived because of white woman self-sacrifice, not these side characters. You're constantly moving the goalposts.
You're really silent.
lefty/pol/*
Riddick is about a diversity hire that fricks shit up so bad he gets ejected from his own empire
Huh?
Why are you homosexuals trying to pretend israelite movies are based?
>no that doesn't count I wasn't talking about
Frick off, you zoomer c**t. The film is based and comes from before your shitty times. Go mouth off and I'll throw you a (you) since you're such a prostitute for it.
Go watch it again, you dumb frick.
LITERAL troony BEFORE troony POLITICS, SO OF COURSE IT WON'T SEEM LIKE A COOKIE CUTTER COPY PASTE OF WOKE POLITICS
I'M TALKING ABOUT SUBVERSIVE PROPAGANDA, YOU STUPID FRICKING moronic PIECE OF SHIT
just a bunch of contrarian morons. Pitch Black was great and liked sci-fi movie even when it aired. So much it lead the executives taking the risk greenlighting the big budget sequel on the original IP
Riddick 3 > Pitch Black > Chronicles
Riddick 3 is three movies in one, first part is a survival sequence, the second part is witty combat, and the third is a 'member-that sequence for the first movie.
>and the third is a 'member-that se- hol' up, my doordashed taco bell is here.
The game "escape from butcher bay"
Is also kino and gaps the two
Butcher Bay is a noncanon prequel.
The cry of the lazy fan.
What do you mean? I like Butcher Bay and Dark Athena. But they don't "bridge" anything. They are prequels to Pitch Black and are retconned by the films.
It literally is canon. Vin made it and said so himself. Maybe you’re thinking of the animated mini film.
No. Riddick gets eyes shined in the game. Chronicles implies he lied about that, and then Riddick confirms it when Valco or whatever his name is confirms other furyans have shined eyes.
He doesn’t get eye shined in the game. The eye thing awakens as a dormant power and he blames it on the prison surgeon. It’s just a narrative he tells people.
I thought furians lived on a dark planet so they had night vision, no? stupid if not
I don’t recall it ever being described as dark but it is some sort of adaptation specific to their race
Its not dark and I don't think all Furyans have eye shine. But Vaako said there was another Furyan who did at least. Maybe even Riddick's dad. In any case, it retcons him getting the eye shine in prison. Which Chronicles already kinda did when Keira was mad at him that there was no eye shine doctor in her prison.
They can smell trannies which makes their eyes damaged.
thats gay
furyans are magic wizard people they don't need evolutionary adaptations
Loved that game. It really makes you feel like (you) are Riddick.
THRESHOLD
TAKE US TO THE THRESHOLD
I say this whenever someone actually uses 'threshold' irl
It's such a great chant
This one is even more bizarre.
Highlander 1
>Fantasy
>An interesting take on the sword and sorcery genre where immortals are fighting for the fate of the world.
Highlander 2
>Sci Fi
>Immortals are aliens from the Planet Zeist, located in a different galaxy, sent to Earth for punishment.
but quickening is universally seen as shit even by those who were involved making it
How did Lambert ever get into movies? He looks like a literal moron. Is his dad a producer?
haha get this, even weirder, a script of riddick escaping a space prison was meant to be an alien sequel, which was then reused for pitch black.
Pitch Black was amazing the rest was dumb
>all this talk about the Riddick series
>not a single mention of the animu
I am dissapoint (its decent)
go away, weeb
I only ever saw Chronicles, it was cool
How did Riddick know it was night time? They were in space.
He smelled it.
Pitch Black is legit kino
Chronicles is run of the mill scifi slop
Never bothered with the third
WHITE WOMAN GETS TAUGHT A LESSON BY A BROWN MAN AND MOTIVATES HERSELF INTO DYING TO SAVE PEOPLE, COMPLETING HER ARC
WHO DID SHE SAVE
SHE SAVED A BROWN GUY, A BLACK GUY, AND A GIRL THAT TRIED TO PASS AS A BOY, A troony.
JUST WATCH THE FRICKING MOVIE IT'S ALL THERE
>Yes, she learned a valuable lesson to save under privileged races and classes, including a wholesome prisoner that is heckin' based at killing aliems.
>I will now devolve into a manchild and seek libtarded females that have been molded by similar liberal israeli propaganda.
>Hell, in 20 years, I'll even talk about it on imageboards.
WTF are you guys talking about?
He's having a mental breakdown because of the absurdity levels of moronation in this chat channel.
Ok, listen up. You know that pang in your chest, your heart area, where you experience love, when the white woman, the gal who's breasts you got to see in some nice cleavage shots, the woman with the voice you learned to adore, the one that made good decisions and overcame not only her own faults in empathy but became the leader people assumed her to be (because of her skin color privilege), when she died?
That was misdirection. What the movie was doing was programming a sense of normality, that white people should sacrifice themselves for the greater good. The greater good in this case are the characters that survived. The characters that died, died due to their vices. The kids were too curious and spergious. One was villainous. One was a drug addict. One was an alcoholic. The list goes on. The purest survivors were the moralist criminal brown Riddick, the black muslim that had faith in God, and the teenager female that posed as a male and acted like a male, a troony before modern politics.
Look at white women in current year. They will die on the sword for non-whites robbing the world of their greatness because they've been deceived, and most men are not willing to care for these angels because in many cases they can't. They are too far gone or brainwashed.
Now if you're reading this and calling me an idiot because you think Pitch Black was a great movie, you are a cucked homosexual nuked by israelitelight in psychological warfare operations using movies to infiltrate your mind masquerading as entertainment. Look up what "entertainment" means in latin and then learn how to tie a noose to have a nice day because it's fricking over.
great manifesto can't wait to see you set yourself on fire in public
I wasn't physically raped by congressmen.
Yet.
Well I'm too old now, obviously. I know my ABCs, clearly.
Pitch black is boring
anon i just watched the film and you are correct it is deeply subversive. from the portrayal of a woman as a leader in any respect to the portrayal as the law figure as a corrupt drug using coward. but you are correct the worst is the hijacking of the female mother instinct to protect and transferring that to the out-group.

kino
Iejej
>YWNBAM I can smell your period blood.
>And it somehow manages to be absolute Kino!
That's all that matters!
Personally I couldn’t watch the second but the I liked the first. The game was also certified kino. The third was fine but a rehash of 1.
Why can’t chronicles gays understand that we like riddick being a hardened criminal, not a homosexual marvel hero.
He softens up starting at the end of pitch black. It was a ‘getting back in touch with humanity’ subplot. Only comes off as superhero bullshit because of the way the last scene was shot. Twohy’s one mistake.
7/10 is a polite way of saying it was 5/10, i.e. average, when you don't feel like getting in a pointless argument
It walked so Guardians of the Galaxy could run
Riddick at the beginning of the movie with the frozen dreads looked badass as shit.
what I always liked about chronicles, ever since warching it with dad back in a day, is its confidence of its setting.
other sci fi/fantasy will have exposition about nature of force, or what magic rings are, hell even in Warhammer40k they had to explain everything about empror and his children
and in riddick?
>how can this guy rip a soul from somebody's body and teleport himself via some metaphysical change? well he is undead who escaped from underworld of course !
at it never fricking expands on it. it takes balls to tell audience to either accept the setting or frick off,
I can't think of other big budget movies that do that, and in videogames I can only think of Final Fantasy XIII
Loved how they just dropped all that worldbuilding in the first minutes of the sequel like nothing
It's a fricken awesome movie, I wish they'd followed the necromancer story up, rather than just remaking the first movie like they did with part 3
Only Picth Black is good
I haven't seen Pitch Black in over a decade but I remember it being a pretty decent action/horror movie when Riddick was more of a mysterious psychopath and not a mysterious mythical warrior and savior. It's closer to his Butcher Bay character also iirc. I still think Chronicles is the best movie in the series, it's a perfect popcorn movie just cool sci-fi action and no bullshit. The animated in-between is mandatory if you care at all about the story though which is unfortunate. Riddick 2013 was alright but lacked his cool persona. He needs to skirt the line between mary sue and badass in my opinion because that's what makes him scary. He's like evil Batman.
For me it's the animated movie Dark Fury
The 1st and 3rd riddick are basically the same movie, It genuinely could be a re imagining which is why 2 is nice because its the only actual sequel.
The costume design and setting was so kino. Need to rewatch this to recover from the dull soullessness that was Dune 2
I do wish they used it more, iirc they spend too long going off the rails with the prison thing
>gets scared so shitless he death beams his own troops just to get off world
What did he mean by this?
?si=4CkR-u7zbFHre5-0
The Necromongers were such a cool faction.
I didn't mind the fact that the movie flip flopped between the necromongers and riddick's prison break. I feel that it was a relatively fresh take on the chosen one plot. Riddick is never seen to be very active in fulfilling any sort of destiny, he's always depicted as a survivor and he just got caught up in other people's lives.
Also the previous lord marshals' statues were cool as frick.
