The 50s and 60s were good times, but only for white people, and that came with many, many hidden costs that may have made people reconsider if they knew what those costs were. It's like using a credit card and not realizing how much you're running it up until you get home and freak out over the fact that the balance is in the thousands. That's what the last two generations are waking up to. They're getting the bill.
We have it even better than people in the 50s and 60s, it only feels worse because we're more aware of what's going on around us and the consequences our consumption has. I would say the one thing that's objectively worse is our health, we're in awful shape.
