No, they fell because their system was inefficient and everyone (in the country and also their "allies") hated it.
So, just like America right now, but not because party members are old.

It was inefficient because it was run by geriatrics fighting the battles of their youth way intro the late 80's

just like now. Biden is still fighting the cold war, the holly wood boomers are still fighting for gay acceptance and Black folk

It always feels like Ridley Scott is younger than he is. Not because of how he looks (although he does look good for a 85 year old, I wouldn't give him more than a 70), but because he started later than both Coppola and Scroscese and his style is very "modern". But not in a good sense. At early 00s he just started making shlock, and doing the blue / grey filter bullshit that was dominating hard at some point.

He also feels younger because he's insanely productive.

Who are he great directors our this generation?

There's nobody, because he medium is dead. Evey movie has to be woke garbage and tick off boxes. No room for creativity or innovation.

I wish I could say Ari Aster because I thought Hereditary was incredible but nothing he's made since has come close

Boomers did what boomers do best and kicked the ladder behind them.
Where new Hollywood fostered an entire generation of talented filmmakers, there was never an equivalent subsequent movement and it garnered the creation of the blockbuster which killed innovation.
Sure, you've the early 90s which brought to prominence people like PTA, Tarantino and Kevin Smith. But it wasn't the same and was much smaller.
And there's been nothing since aimed at developing young auteurs' films

Why can't we have good directors with vision to replace these people? Nepotism and it's consequences have been devastating for the film industry

      Anonymous

Nah, nepotism was always prevalent in Hollywood, but that didn't stop them from making kino in the past. It's unironically overstimulation from constant internet consumption, especially social media. It killls all creativity. That's why films really started to fall off around 2007 when the iPhone came out.

The only people who won't be missed and should've been put out to pasture long ago are Ridley Scott and woody allen. The Irishman was hilariously bad. We need examples of good directors making bad films. Ridley Scott and woody allen though? Like how did Ridley Scott make good films despite how fricking moronic he sounds? As for woody allen I've never seen a movie purely think he's trash over him being a israelite. Don't even care about the marrying his adopted daughter. He's a israelite. All I need to know about his character.

Ridley Scott makes kino and time periode accurate movies. His death will be a huge loss. Who are the others?

      Anonymous

      >time period accurate
I agree he makes kino just in terms of filmmaking as a process, but he's been cursed by his own ignorance with accepting some of the worst scripts in history. Oh and all of his "period" pieces are the antithesis of accuracy.
