It was nowhere near as good as Regular Show. Taking off the LSD-trip filter Regular Show had essentially killed any chances of it being decent. It was just a mediocre söy-comedy.
Not yet, they say HBO Max is still producing it, but who knows now.
wtf i thought they confirmed season 4
Discovery is gutting HBO Max and WB in general to pay off 3 billion dollars in debt, so expect more canceled shows, especially scripted animation that isn’t DCU related.
the frick is Discovery problem? no one wants to watch animal shows
2 years ago
Anonymous
Discovery has around 55-57 dollars worth of debt thanks to its merger with Warner Bros (mostly thanks to AT&T shoving assloads of its own debt into the company so IT didn't have to deal with that bs anymore) and it is already on a 3 billion dollar cost cutting initiative at this moment. So, animation is going to be the first thing to go, along with real estate. Discovery is already shuttering a building in Knoxville and the studio in Atlanta. Prepare for more cuts and more cheap reality television.
we're still getting that last season right? it's canceled AFTER that, right?
god poor quintel, they made him wait SO long that all the hype had died and most of us had no idea it had come out. I just found out a few months ago and binged it.
holy shit it did? thank christ, I love that show.. sometimes i feel like the only person who watched Life and Times of Tim.
this sucks to hear. close enough was a show that my dad and i watched together. he loved it, one of the only cartoons we could really enjoy together. i remember watching the entire third season in a day with him right after it dropped. he passed just about a month ago. i miss him, bros.
weird, one of the board artists who works on the show had it listed on their resume that they've been storyboard supervisor on season 4 since October. I guess they were shut down mid-production
unlikely, they would've said in the Deadline article if there were a few episodes left. I just checked that board artist's LinkedIn and they're now working on another Cartoon Network Studios show anyway
The whole TBS animation fiasco killed the hype for this show. I'm surprised it even made it to season 3.
That said, it was pretty damn good. Not quite as good as peak regular show but still really nice.
This and Final Space were lucky enough to survive through the shitstorm that occurred months after they announced all 4 shows. Although Close Enough went through a lot development hell for three years just to see the day of light, whereas Tarantula lasted only one season and on the same month with no promotion and the two episodes that were uploaded on YouTube wind up not being released with the rest that aired on tv and The Cops got shot down once Louis CK got metoo’ed. Plus TBS had no interest into animation aside from American Dad.
Either a change of management, or the controversy regarding to Louis CK, that they tried to move away from the subject and just canceled the problem. Nothing really occurred until after AT&T merger was completed
>last HBO Max adult cartoon standing after The Prince, Santa Inc, and Close Enough were all canceled >no Harley Quinn doesn't count that's a DC Universe import
kneel.
the last scene of the finale teased more story and HBO Max also sent out surveys a few months ago asking if people wanted a season 2. they were open to doing more
I was just thinking about this show today. Funny it got canceled. I would binge each season the day they came out and then completely forget almost everything about it. Hope thirwell moves on to something actually different.
Memorable episodes:
The horse
The time travel liquor
Author Body swapping
The "meta" Halloween episode bit
This show also covered a lot of fetish tropes for only 3 seasons.
>sadboy simping
"Simp" is such an ugly, modern word. I wouldn't use that to describe Mordecai.
Plus it was merely a small part of the show, didn't define it in its entirety.
So place bets on how long untill he comes up with another show and which network it will be on.
I really want to see another series in the regular show universe, he just needs to keep away from streaming services that offer piles of money at first and than just dump you when they start losing subscribers because of their shitty practices
seems it was canned awhile ago and the crew wasn't able to talk about it until now. picrel is Calvin Wong, who was supervising producer on Close Enough and has been showrunning We Baby Bears since December 2021 (I guess that's around when it was canceled)
Good.
This guy sucks at drawing human characters, the only reason Regular Show lasted was because the characters were animals and weird objects not boring fricking humans.
>far left
I don't think he's in a costume >box guy
Might be the time-travelling medieval knight that made a cardboard castle and threw rocks at bystanders in the middle of the park.
Kinda funny that the last episode was the exes hooking up again. I would have liked to see how that progressed in a full season but also is a sweet sendoff as the last ep.
season 3 was super fricking weak so i can understand why it was cancelled. its like quintel was really hands off with it. sucks another one of his projects was shit canned though.
That's sad but it had a good run I guess. I think it should of at least got one more season. Also > all these anons saying good riddance
You all deserve Bento Box
I recently finished the 3rd season and started The Owl House, wich I found out a few days ago that it got canceled right after I finished the first season, shit sucks
Fricking hell, we're about to the point where we aren't even getting moderately decent new shows anymore. So much shit is now either getting cancelled or flat out never released in the first place. It's like someone monkey pawed getting a single animated show cancelled and the monkey paw went and cancelled ALL animated shows.
I wasn't nearly as good as regular show but it was... Close enough. Hopefully James gets another show soon, I genuinely like the guy and wish him all the best.
It was boring and had none of the charm of regular show. They can go to the island of "Three seasons is more than most shows get be happy with what you got" from the Drawn Together movie.
I liked the show, it was similar to regular show, but half of the main characters being parents, that changes the dinamics enough to be other show. The main crew is good.
This is why it's so fricking frustrating when all the edgelords look down and go "Good" when something ok but not great gets cancelled. They act like having the burger joint go out of business will somehow get it replaced with a steakhouse. No, you're going to end up with another damn subway or worse yet nothing at all.
money and clueless dipshit executives. Then again even good shows can often fall victim to the rot shark. It's a monkeypaw stabbed onto a four-edge sword with no hilt.
>that episode where the brown guy with the hair gets sucked into his phone >he says super hero movies are ruining media or something >digital versions of other characters say "super heroes today are just modern versions of gods" and "the money made on super hero movies lets studios do newer things" >hair guy freaks out and says his digital friends are smarter than him
This blew my mind with how insane of a take it was, I couldn't stop thinking about it, I even talked to my friend who's versed in history and stuff about what he thought of the idea of Marvel movie superheroes being equated to like, Zeus or whatever and he thought it was fricking stupid. And I can't get over the "superhero movies let them take risks on other projects" like huh? We're in an endless stream of nonstop marvel garbage coming out every ~3 months, anything new and interesting is either done by totally different companies or are indie films, any money made off Marvel just goes to Star Wars or whatever.
I know its stupid but those 2 lines bothered me so much I stopped watching the show after. Its like they wanted to show that the hair guy was "wrong" so badly they made a horrible point.
Ah that fricking sucks. The show was actually getting more interesting, and feeling a lot more like Regular Show. Hopefully JG has more ideas or gets more work.
Were there not enough gay Black folk in it for HBO max?
they made the ginger gay for some reason. guess that wasn't enough. thought this show had a strange boner for alex
Correct. They requested more diversity.
After they cast your mom in the show, they knew they’d be on borrowed time.
Nice.
Woooooaaaaah
You know who else is on borrowed time? MY MOM!
duuuuude, Benson
are you ok?
Off by one, but those digits deserve to be repeating
Eh, 3 seasons ain't a bad run.
I'm surprised it got more than 1, it's not bad but it's not stellar
pretty much. Unlike RS this didn't feel like it deserved to go on much longer
nah, chances are the show was an underperformer.
Also, lets be honest, it was mid.
it was regular show that could say the f-word
We already had 6 or 7 seasons of regular show, we don't need more.
It was nowhere near as good as Regular Show. Taking off the LSD-trip filter Regular Show had essentially killed any chances of it being decent. It was just a mediocre söy-comedy.
>söy
crawl back to Cinemaphile underage
I'm not underage. Söy is simply the best adjective for describing the kind of comedy it was, despite it being an overused buzzword.
There are literally hundreds of words in the English language that can better describe it than with that one
Hey, give me a break, I'm not a native speaker.
Then learn to forget the word onions so you don't get shit on and called out on this site
You're fluent in stupidity
Why? Because I shit on a cartoon you liked? Or used a buzzword that makes you irrationally angry?
If you use Soi to describe things you don't like your opinion doesn't matter
They would probably clap tho Wrong board
Take your own advice, Black person
Shut the frick up troony
but they couldnt show drawn nudity, even a drawing OF a drawing made by a kid.
Wait,is that a reliable source
is your mom a reliable source
https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/close-enough-canceled-hbo-max-220059979.html it's real bud
Disappointed this is cancelled, yet moderately excited for more Ten Year Old Tom and Clone High.
>Ten Year Old Tom
I enjoyed it but it was super mean spirited as that meme term goes.
>super mean spirited
I hope Tom gets crushed to death in the series finale. Preferably right before graduation or a date.
>Clone High
That has moved to Paramount+
https://movieweb.com/clone-high-revival-everything-we-know/
Not yet, they say HBO Max is still producing it, but who knows now.

>more Ten Year Old Tom
oh frick yeah
Ah shit, just when it was getting really good, felt like they had at least couple more seasons in them
frick cancel culture
I FRICKING HATE DISCOVERY SO FRICKING MUCH
Didn’t have any staying power.
It ran out of jokes after s1.
WESTERN ANIMATION IS DEAD
The superior HBOMAX animated original 10 year old Tom got renewed, so I’m good.
we're still getting that last season right? it's canceled AFTER that, right?
god poor quintel, they made him wait SO long that all the hype had died and most of us had no idea it had come out. I just found out a few months ago and binged it.
holy shit it did? thank christ, I love that show.. sometimes i feel like the only person who watched Life and Times of Tim.
that's gonna get cancelled after it's second season.
Can't wait for the soulless Discovery approved Regular Show revival
It'll be replaced with more "non-scripted" bullshit Discovery is always known for.
You mean stuff like "the wonders of cardboard boxes?"
Welp the very least they can do is make Mordecai and Rigby gay for each other, and I look foward to that
This hurts, bros. Close Enough is one of the last cartoons I have any interest in that was still airing.
I'm not surprised. Still a big shame, this show had the potential to grow with its audience like Regular show did.
Never understood the appeal creator wankfest HURRR DURRR ADULTING IS HARD HURRR CHILDREN ADULTS COMEDY that last more than a few episodes.
Son of a b***h
this sucks to hear. close enough was a show that my dad and i watched together. he loved it, one of the only cartoons we could really enjoy together. i remember watching the entire third season in a day with him right after it dropped. he passed just about a month ago. i miss him, bros.
Sorry for your loss anon.
I know that feeling Anon...keep strong and feel grateful for the chance to bond with you dad. He really loves you
to be honest the show always felt like an inferior Regular Show. Sucks that it's over but i'm not losing any sleep over it.
It was actually funnier and less formulaic than RS
It was one of the few cartoons left that wasn't tumblr shit.
It did a "white people have no culture" joke.
You can always watch Molly McGee anon
And there's nothing wrong with that.
If we're talking about Americans, they're right
Yeah but it’s all Americans have no culture, not just white
How? American culture is very distinct. Just because your shithole country became Americanized does not mean American culture does not exist.
it was pretty woke bro season 2 ended on a "men bad" episode"
Have sex, you already said this before
Cope
It proved that j.g. is a one trick pony when it comes to storytelling.
weird, one of the board artists who works on the show had it listed on their resume that they've been storyboard supervisor on season 4 since October. I guess they were shut down mid-production
Maybe S4 is still coming?
unlikely, they would've said in the Deadline article if there were a few episodes left. I just checked that board artist's LinkedIn and they're now working on another Cartoon Network Studios show anyway
I read on twitter that the date listed for season 2 is actually when season 3 came out so maby the article is off a season.
What TBS fiasco? New management fricking over creators or something?
Either a change of management, or the controversy regarding to Louis CK, that they tried to move away from the subject and just canceled the problem. Nothing really occurred until after AT&T merger was completed
get woke, go broke
meds
it's literally just Regular Show, gay
You will never be a father.
Time to dust this off and use it one more time.
>Close Enough canceled
>last HBO Max adult cartoon standing after The Prince, Santa Inc, and Close Enough were all canceled
>no Harley Quinn doesn't count that's a DC Universe import
kneel.
>Santa Inc
That was met to have a short run, it's a mini-series lmao
the last scene of the finale teased more story and HBO Max also sent out surveys a few months ago asking if people wanted a season 2. they were open to doing more
people want more of santa inc?
was the movie so disliked it was the reason the dislike counter was removed from youtube.
No, it was more of a funny coincidence, also I could see A season 2 working, even if the Show only has one good scene.
Funny coincidence? Hand rubbing intensifies
No, the timing just worked out. The dislike counter was removed because all of Joe Biden's official speech videos kept getting disliked to oblivion.
Meh, never watched it much anyways so can't say I'm surprised.
Can't they just move to netflix?
Netflix is MORE cancel-happy these days than any other streamer or network.
Moving it to streaming was a mistake. You can’t apply the binge format to an episodic comedy the same way you can a drama.
Noooooo 🙁
aw, hope jg isn't too torn up about it
Well, I am very torn up about this, I was really enjoying the show.
he seems fine
Yikes, this reads too plain like he must be fricking dead inside.
Anon, he's not going to pull a Mordecai about it.
This is the same guy that rolled over to TBS' demands to remove half of every episode.
I hope Quintel works on more stuff after this, one of the last funny dudes making cartoons
Guess it wasn't close enough
Shame. It was fun
I was just thinking about this show today. Funny it got canceled. I would binge each season the day they came out and then completely forget almost everything about it. Hope thirwell moves on to something actually different.
Memorable episodes:
The horse
The time travel liquor
Author Body swapping
The "meta" Halloween episode bit
This show also covered a lot of fetish tropes for only 3 seasons.
is there a mega to watch those episodes?
wtf i thought they confirmed season 4
>Regular Show but sadboy simping replaced with adulting is hard
Good riddance.
>sadboy simping
"Simp" is such an ugly, modern word. I wouldn't use that to describe Mordecai.
Plus it was merely a small part of the show, didn't define it in its entirety.

>regular show universe
Anything he makes might as well just be the same universe, it’s not like the RS world had any rules to begin with
10 bucks he sells his soul to Disney.
he'll troon out before that
It’d be amazing if he did a high school show set in the 90s
That's too bad, I like it. But it didn't shit the bed too much so this is also fine.
seems it was canned awhile ago and the crew wasn't able to talk about it until now. picrel is Calvin Wong, who was supervising producer on Close Enough and has been showrunning We Baby Bears since December 2021 (I guess that's around when it was canceled)
Good.
This guy sucks at drawing human characters, the only reason Regular Show lasted was because the characters were animals and weird objects not boring fricking humans.
It's odd because Regular Show did have good looking humanoid characters, namely Gary, HD-DVD and Bluray.
I heard it was regular show with less plot. Did it have recurring storylines or just the same jokes.
thank god
Never seen this show but I name all the costumes except the far left and the box guy. What are they?
>far left
I don't think he's in a costume
>box guy
Might be the time-travelling medieval knight that made a cardboard castle and threw rocks at bystanders in the middle of the park.
Pretty sure this is the most clothed he gets throughout the series
Far left guy isn't in costume.
Box is part of a Solid Snake costume.
this show took like 4 years to air and got cancelled in like 2 lol.
Isn't this show just "Normal words, but a normal guy"?
take your meds
I'll take that as a yes, it's just Bojack with humans
No it's just regular show. But the creator isn't a 20 something slacker anymore.
Bojack is dogshit, Close Enough had personality. It was just Regular Show with a different cast and less restrictions because it wasn't on CN.
WTF is happening with WB? At this point what isn't being cancelled?
Kinda funny that the last episode was the exes hooking up again. I would have liked to see how that progressed in a full season but also is a sweet sendoff as the last ep.
>never got a sexy grownup Candice
It hurts.
shes gonna look like her mommy. least her art good
She grew up in that episode with the Magic Snail that was voiced by Noel Fielding.
Welllllll, we kinda did, but she was inside a snail.
season 3 was super fricking weak so i can understand why it was cancelled. its like quintel was really hands off with it. sucks another one of his projects was shit canned though.
>HBO cleaning house to make way for the real draw
Vince will buy that shit company
That's sad but it had a good run I guess. I think it should of at least got one more season. Also
> all these anons saying good riddance
You all deserve Bento Box
Girl Power is taking away everything from us
I dropped it after s2. It stopped being heartwarming and just became lame and unfunny.
Imagine having to live knowing that Close Enough got cancelled but Molly McGee is still going
What the frick does a Disney kid cartoon has to do with an adult one from HBO?
Girly shit took over Cinemaphile
What has that got to do with hbo cancelling CE?
People are not watching cartoons anymore that isn't troonyshit
Hey, I like Molly McGee
I'm trans too
They could just put it on AS…
Oh wait no production on it already completed and the rest of the crew moved on.
If it was done by a different team it would have been shit.
what shows are discovery trying to memory hole again?
Anything with a plot.
I'm gonna be pissed if they renew Santa Inc for a 2nd season while they axed this
I recently finished the 3rd season and started The Owl House, wich I found out a few days ago that it got canceled right after I finished the first season, shit sucks
Late stage capitalism is destroying the animation industry
>late stage for 150 years
Are you really going to shed tears over "anti-racist baby"?
too busy shedding tears over Bone
good, maybe then you can get some actual taste and watch good animation like spy x family, boku no hero and dragon slayer
>So much shit is now either getting cancelled
To be fair, this is how it's always been. Good shows not lasting long enough is pretty much the norm.
rip my wife bridgette
>All these shows getting cancelled left and right
>TTG still kicking
Well TTGgays, I guess I have to kneel now.
Don't forget that people are actually starting to warm up with the show and are shitting on lore based cartoons now
Is that even true? Might as well just have animated keys jingling on screen for 30 minutes then
Loreshit keeps shitting the bed or try to be the show runners favorite animu
frick the animation industry
It's his fault for taking that contract.
>no more emily porn
The one episode I watched of this fricking sucked.
I wasn't nearly as good as regular show but it was... Close enough. Hopefully James gets another show soon, I genuinely like the guy and wish him all the best.
I didn't care about this show, but why didn't he start a webseries?
I always thought it was funny that he had a show on HBO Max considering the last few Regular Show episodes were all about how streaming is bad.
He's a Hollywood b***h
I thought that was just a joke about how "new thing bad". There were a few of those eps each dealing with a newer platform wasn't there?
I don't get this, are they deliberately trying to make the character designs look as unappealing as humanly possible ?
Like what the frick ? Animation is a VISUAL medium, ugly ass character designs, drab color scheme, what an absolute waste of time and effort.
The Artist is not a groomer, he doesn't know how to appreciate dicky
That's a shame. I really liked it. I hope Quintel can get work after this.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a show on adult swim, it’s about time
It was boring and had none of the charm of regular show. They can go to the island of "Three seasons is more than most shows get be happy with what you got" from the Drawn Together movie.
sad as this situation, it's at best preferable to seasonal rot.
God fricking damnit, it was actually decent.
This was the most mid show ever, is anyone really surprised?
Mediocre in 2022 is good yes how could you tell
There is virtually nothing on that isn't literal trash
Pain.
Prob my favorite original show on max
I honestly surprised it was still going. I mean it's REALLY mediocre.
Good show, 3 seasons is not that bad, I guess it's better for it to end before it becomes a spongebob / simpsons
Supposed to be the David Tennant Doctor Who?
Morpheus I guess.
I actually really liked it, so it's quite a shame.
Why does Cinemaphile jerk off over this show but at the same time hates all shows that are Family Guy art style rip-offs?
It's Regular Show style you mongoloid
I gonna miss my wife Bridgette.
Such fun character.
>tfw no neurotic bawd azn waifu
>This is what they took from us.
THERE HAS GOT TO BE A POINT WHERE WE SAY ENOUGH IS E-FRICKING-NOUGH
Who's the qt jubilee cosplay
Now there are no good recent long running adult cartoons that isn't Rick and Morty
Did other RS voice actors show up in this show? I only watched the third season
Roger Craig Smith did a lot of ancillary voices
I liked the show, it was similar to regular show, but half of the main characters being parents, that changes the dinamics enough to be other show. The main crew is good.
Why does every good cartoon get cancelled and the shit ones keep getting greenlit for tons of season?
Because cartoons are a dying medium and the only ones that survive will be the cheap ones.
Basically cartoons are now in the same place cable TV is.
This is why it's so fricking frustrating when all the edgelords look down and go "Good" when something ok but not great gets cancelled. They act like having the burger joint go out of business will somehow get it replaced with a steakhouse. No, you're going to end up with another damn subway or worse yet nothing at all.
That implies that people want it to be replaced.
Some are perfectly content to just watch it all burn.
money and clueless dipshit executives. Then again even good shows can often fall victim to the rot shark. It's a monkeypaw stabbed onto a four-edge sword with no hilt.
The industry is DYING
That sucks, the show seemed like it was improving.
So like, what's left for adult centric animation that hasn't been running for over 10 years now? Fricking Big Mouth?
Primal?
>shitty-ass show
why is Cinemaphile full of tumblrgays?
>that episode where the brown guy with the hair gets sucked into his phone
>he says super hero movies are ruining media or something
>digital versions of other characters say "super heroes today are just modern versions of gods" and "the money made on super hero movies lets studios do newer things"
>hair guy freaks out and says his digital friends are smarter than him

Next is Primal, then Invincible
It's over for western animation
Man this sucks almost as much as when bless the harts got cancelled
